What was your favorite moment from a game, something that really made your jaw drop or caught you so off-guard that you were like totally "Whoa!" and the game was like totally "Yeah!" or something?

Personally, every second of Shadow of the Colossus was a "moment" for me.

The Butcher saying 'Fresh Meat' in Diablo. I had nightmares of it for a while.. I was playing the game as a Rogue, so lead the Butcher to a wall, closed the door, and shot him through the railing...

Beating Dead! on Guitar Hero 2 on hard. what? It was amazing for me ok?

I'd also say Final Fantasy's FMV sequences, and seeing Gears of War running on the 42" HDTV for the first time. Eye Orgasm I tell you.

Oblivion, the whole game was a "wow" moment.

I remember the first time playing Carmageddon when I was 8 year old + -, that was a serious "woaw" moment for me, serious carnage in an open world. I remember driving into the football field and running over all the football players and cheerleaders, hahaha!!!

Those were the good old days.

Discoverring Arcanum.

And I know I'm really starting to sound like some sort of broken record stuck on the Fanboy track, but I am dead serious here.

Killing the Stillwater Giant (*the REAL one*).
Discoverring the lost Iron Clan, and that Magnus was actually related to them and can actually end up being their king.

Playing Crash Bandicoot for the first time kind of blowed my mind, I was obsessed with the series all the way to #3.

Seeing the intro of Final Fantasy XIII to the sound of Liberi Fatalli on a PSM demo disk, started my love for Final Fantasy right there and then.

Well it was possible, it only happened if Loghaire thunderstone (* self exiled ruler of the wheel clan and all around king of dwarves*) was in your party.

You would not believe the amount of new things I discover each time I play through that game, which in itself deserves another favorite moment in gaming.

Every SSX game on the PS2. ^^ So far the best one has to go to On Tour with the best full mountain run (first run was about 30mins xD) plus almost now reset area like SSX3.

SSX was also the first game that I got for my PS2 and I always get excited when they announce a new one.

^^ Ditto, there were a few memorable moments in HL2 for me.

Max Payne; destroying my first room filled with scum bags with bullet time .

God of War; the bosses and a few other scenes as well.

Silent Hill; the entire atmosphere that they created for this game stunned me, well, that and all of the disturbing things in it.

The opening intro for Resident Evil 2; will for ever be my favorite even though it's old by now.

GH2 also had a few.

“13”

The fatalities from the old Mortal Kombat’s.

In Earth Worm Jim 2 when you finish a stage. There's a screen with 2 cows staring at you and then the one smiles. Ah man, brilliance.

A few moments in Pray.

Killing Diablo for the first time in Diablo 2. My friend had a really rubbish Paladin so he got me to come over cos he couldn't do potions fast enough and still concentrate on trying to kill him. It took us over a hour and all his gold being spent on potions. Needless to say we went through a whole belt of potions in about 10sec. Sheer bliss when he went down!

Jedi Knight 2 - killing my first Sith underling. The adrenalin rush was amazing.
KOTOR - the whole game.
Morrowind - such a great story and backstory (if you took the time to read). Also throwing my first fireball and seeing the area of effect.
Oblivion - the graphical goodness never seized. Also, fighting a Dremora Lord on a thin precipice 60 ft high under a tight time-limit. I felt like a medieval James Bond slash Richard Stahl.
Max Payne with Kung Fu mod - Round house kicking three grunts to death - at the same time. Chuck would have been proud.

Too many more to list. Gaming rules, doesn't it!

I have to say Enternal Darkness on the Gamecube. Whenever you lost your sanity.

Or Resident Evil 4 (The Village) the gamecube version, not the PS2.

Or defending the terrain base against the zerg rush. I've never seen that many units in a game before that

-Seeing all the zombies in Dead Rising for the first time.
-Seeing all the enemies in N3 for the first time was also cool.
-Ooh, and my first crash in Burnout revenge.

These were only a few recent ones.

Edit: seeing that we are talking a little horor here....
-The first time a saw the world in Silent Hill transform into the Underworld.

the first time i played the first version of the sims i was blown away. i just kept thinking 'this is amazing...never thought this would be possible.' that was the moment that got me hooked on gaming because i just knew i had to see what else was going to come out that i would still not have thought possible...

I think one of my fave gaming moments was when I finally crossed the border in GTA - SA and managed to get a car without getting taken out by the pigs, anyways there I was with like a hundred of these porkers coming at me from every direction and I'm like man this world is huge, faark! offroad! woohoo! and then I saw it, I swear my heartrate doubled, THE mountain! OMG! Conquering that thing (in many different hair raising ways) was probably the most fun I've ever had in any game, something I will miss in the new GTA, but hopefully the sequels thereafter will get bigger as they normally do.

Also, the first time I blew someone to bits in F.E.A.R.

Unreal 1. Skaarj. Tunnel.
That was one of few moments in my gaming history where I felt like i was actually there. Rather than merely a spectator mashing buttons.
Actually, the whole of Unreal 1 was really just such an amazing experience. So horribly let down by the legions of competitive multiplayer shooters and that horrible, horrible sequel...

Oh, and Molten Core, when we downed Ragnaros for the first time. That was sekz.

Tons of others (eg activating bullettime in Max Payne for the first time), just can't remember them all now.

^^Oh no, Capcom as done it on a few occasions. The licker jumping through the one way class and the zombies ramming their arms through the barricaded windows in Resi 2 is another.

I don't know... I know exactly what part you're talking about. As soon as Leon picks up the First Aid Spray on the table in RE2 that Licker jumps through, but the thing is I was kind of expecting it. Basically, if you see a corrodor/room with windows (that puts the cameras focus on it) you anticipate these kind of things in a Resi game. However, saying that, it would still give you a good enough scare to remember it. The crowes flying through the windows in the 2nd scenario of Resi 2 also provided a moment. I still rate Resi 2 as the best Resi I have played. (and still have it :) )

Toi
24-07-2007, 08:02 AM
Yeah, the crows, remember that one. Agreed, Resi 2 the best in the series. Maybe you should replay it because if my memory serves me correctly the licker didn't jump through the window when you pick up the first aid spray on the table or the chess piece from the shelve as I would have expected but as soon as you exit the door. Anyway, it's all blurry by now so I might be wrong.

I was disappointed to hear that all the events from all the Resi games will be dealt with in Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles except for RE2. Wonder why?

Sorry, know this is off topic, just had to get it out my system. ;)

dawid22
24-07-2007, 08:36 AM
Yeah, it actually really confuses me. They're using Resi 0 and 1. On the Cube Resi 0 and 1 was remade (well, Zero for the first time) and 2,3 was just a PS2 port. Wonder why they do not make much of Resi 2?

Anyway, back on topic, another great moment in gaming for me would be the first time I actually played Super Mario Brothers on teh NES. I was in St.5 (Grade 7) and I remember it being the game that really got me interested in the industry. The colours and opportunity in that game was just too amazing at the time.

I thought long and hard about my favourite moment(s) in gaming. I got that "special" feeling while playing Treasure Mountain and Outnumbered (both made by Supersolvers). For some reason I fell in love with Jazz Jackrabbit 1 (2 was horrid).

Space invaders and pong. Both Discworld games were fantastic. Lanning Doom for the first time. Playing chips on Windows 3.1. Abe's Oddysee. Motocross Madness and Big Red Racing.

Lanning Age of Empires 1 with my uncle (We played on large islands and his turret defence was impenetrable). The incredible machine as well as a rally game called Ignition. Aladdin, Lionking, Grim Fandango.

More recently ;)

Bioshock - I loved the art, the atmosphere and the story. HL1 and 2, Fable - The lost Chapters, Portal, TF2, Prey and COD4 all have great moments. So many more moments which I can't recall at the moment or they have already been mentioned. :)

Trespasser had a number of “Wow!” moments for me, probably because it was the first completely 3D game I played. Also: Outcast, roaming the large environments and discovering new locations was a blast. Finally, landing a combo higher than 1 000 000 points in Tony Hawk's Project 8 and unlocking the corresponding achievement was utterly delightful. Oh, yeah, and pulling off my first sweet trick sequence in skate.

Hmm... I hesitate to say that it's my one favourite moment in gaming, but a sequence that really stands out for me is the cutscene that introduces the player's first entry to the dream world in Myst 4 - that was beautiful, both visually and aurally.

In other games, there were, I think, a few sequences in the Gabriel Knight series - The final scene in the Snake Mound, and the game's finale in Gabriel Knight 1, the forest chase and final hunt in the second game (the "pit" scene can perhaps also be included) and the discovery at the Devil's Armchair and the final cutscene in Gabriel Knight 3.

In Darkness Within: In Pursuit of Loath Nolder, there were, as I recall, some very well-designed areas, some lovely and more creepy, and some very creepy and atmospheric scenes and events.

When I mastered Gears of War from noob level to beating the guy who helped me play it (he was the best in group of the 5 of us) in just 2 days!! (more like 5 hours spanned over 2 days!)

Actually finishing GoW PC... (You have no idea how long it took)

The first time I fired up Doom 3, and when steam finished updating over my 56k line when HL2 was released.

Receiving my copy of Doom 1
Quake(yes the first one, and all of it)
Connecting to Quakeworld and enjoying the fragfest of 16 players :D
