Hey guys
In less than a week i start exams.
Does anyone have some last minute tips i can use?
anything that relates to memory, study tips, diet, how many hours to sleep?
I've been told to eat lots of fish don't know how valid that is.
Anything else?
dammit

Mnemonics work for me if I'm struggling to remember a specific list of items (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mnemonic) otherwise I like to get enough sleep and procrastinate as much as humanly possible (IRC and the forum helps with this).
Good luck.

Bach Rescue Remedy can be good for nerves before an exam. Available at Clicks, I think.

in b4 "ya, study lol"
- Don't cram on the last night, go to bed early.
- The morning of the exam, don't eat a giant breakfast. One cup of tea/coffee, a Snacker and a couple of vitamin B pills takes care of me nicely.

Depending on what subject you are studying for I always found it easy to simply summarize all of the very important info on one big A1/A2 page. Helps to have everything there in one place. Also, by writing/drawing it all you will find a lot of it will stick in your head.
Also, Spending hours on the NAG forums may result in poorer exam results - I didn't say that though :)
Good luck to everyone who is writing exams soon.
I am so happy I am finished with that crap!

I used rescue as well in highschool, varsity, and for my CFAs last year. But I used the tablets, not the drops.

Don't play too many games, or set yourself a limit.
i.e. say that if you study all day, you can play in the evening. I found it was beneficial for me to work all day (waking up fairly early) until supper and then game after that - then before I went to sleep, I would read through my study notes from the day

I'm almost done! Last exam on Friday. Did constitutional law today and it was a good paper.... one thing I find about university (first year at least) is that you can get through doing NO work..... I very rarely even go to university because:
a) The lectures are absolutely useless.
b) The tutorials are absolutely useless.
c) The work is stupidly easy.
God I'm wasting my time..... but a degree is a degree.
Study tips:
-Procrastinate until you feel sick with worry. Then when you study, the work sticks like super-glue.
-Teach your friends. Teaching is the best way to learn.
-Drink a bottle of rescue remedy before the exam. Clears your head and eases the nerves.
-Make simple summaries that make you think you know the work backwards. Confidence is half the exam.
-Go up to people on the day of the exam and have quizzes. You'll always pick up something you didn't study.
-Sleep a lot before the exam.

I disagree completely with this approach. Procrastinating makes you panic when you realize how much stuff you really have to remember. Rather study long before exams, so you have time near the end to revise topics you struggle with.

Let's put it this way - Nip/Tuck, do you like to finish your work way before the deadline, or do you thrive off the last minute rush?
I hate leaving things to the last minute, but some people actually love doing things this way. Like Azimuth, judging by her response

There's another way?
My exams start in 2 and a half weeks. my approach this time is to study now and take my pc out of my room! Then try to do all my homework at school and use the midday to study.
here's a tip, give yourself an off day. I like to take fridays off and hang out with friends or play games.

I studied in advance so on the last night I just had to read through the notes I had made.

Wow.
I didn't (and still don't) make any sort of notes or summaries. My studying tends to be limited to paging aimlessly through the textbook until I get bored and do something else. And, as I recently realised, this is more for the knowledge that I actually did some preparation rather than preparation in itself.
EDIT
Also,
Cramming slut viking.
Corally cramming slut viking.

I prefer Domanskip's method. That got me through my education. Studying long before exams is for nerds.

Actually, my studying method was always as follows: Take a page from the text book and rip it out. Then crumple said page into a ball and place it into my mouth. Then I chew on the page. Thoughtfully chew on the page. Once the page is all soft and gooey I take the sticky wad and slap it onto the other chewed pages eventually building it into an effigy in the shape of a goblin or other suitable monstrosity. Then I burn said effigy while dancing around in my underpants.
I'm a terrible academic.

Haha Nice crash.
I just started studying for finals yesterday. Just doing maths so far though. I was just going to say "**** finals" but now I figured I may as well try seeing as I'm finished school afterwards. Then it is just uni. Studying fails. Miserably.

My maths lecturer always used to quip that most students studied his subject by lying on their beds with the textbook held above their heads. When they fell asleep, the textbook would sit on their faces, and the maths would transfer into their heads via osmosis.
Never worked for me. I had to go and practice the maths for hours on end. Bleh. :(
Purely theoretical subjects are cramtastic, though, provided you have at least a basic understanding of what you're force-feeding your memory. Mnemonics are great, as long as you can remember the mnemonic come E-hour. :P

Lol, you may think it's just Uni, but with most professions, you never stop studying.
And don't forget that your Matric results will be with you for the rest of your life. I was in an interview in January where they went through all my matric marks asking about each one. And this is after I've gotten a degree and CFA I.

Uni gets worse...Try do really well in matric - they give you money (lots of it) if you have a high enough M-Score when you get to varsity.

Yeah if you are really smart and manage to get very high marks you can study for free like my bro and sister.
Pre grad at varsity was easier for me than school but post graduate is a whole another ball game.

Yes, I find that too. But at least it is a lot easier since the knowledge you procure can be immediately applied (well, mostly).
Where as studying at school or university you constantly ask yourself "What am I studying this crap for? I will never use it."
I think a lot of what you learn at university for when you are in your profession one day is how to assimilate a lot of information, extract the useful bits and apply it to the job at hand.

Always try and get 6 hours of sleep a night, any less and well, personally, my higher brain funcitons that are needed to study suffer.
Cramming sure does work, (Not for all courses tho, some uni courses needed a great deal more than a days worth of study to get through, in which case cramming has little effect) used it to great effect.
The night before big exams, I am usually a complete stressed out bundle of nerves, unable to focus on anything but studying, so worked up and hyped up and completely unable to sleep, completely. I have gone into exams literally without sleeping at all the night before, and consuming great amounts of caffeine in the morning before the exam, incidentally those exams are some of the ones that i have done my best in, go figure.
I have now resorted to taking sleeping pills night before exams.

That's how I managed school: I would figure out what we were supposed to be studying was useful for and then slot things into my understanding based on the links they had in the larger framework of life... I used to constantly re-derive things from first principles in exams, but it meant that I didn't have to study.
I got most of my best results in matric by going supply on 8 and then rax/gate on 10. After that you go vespene ASAP and push an expansion as quick as possible.
Also, I never got stressed before exams. BMT :)

Holy ****. Why the hell would your Matric results matter later in life? Methinks companies that want to see those in university graduates are just being *******s.

Studying long before (like, omg, a week before) also allows people like myself to sleep easier the night before, knowing I am prepared. I don't like the last minute cram session - tried it once, ended up writing stuff about the pancreas when I was meant to be doing the liver.
Lol, you studied in primary school.
Ja, it was liek a tuff skool, (wo)man ^_^
I've been cruising through school apparently. I find it hard to believe that even the people who actually work in my grade, don't get A's. I do nothing and scrape through a nice with A average.
The work we've been doing is simply irrelevant to me, and oh lawd CTA's are the biggest load of crap ever - I swear, they're giving us primary school work.
I'll probably start working around Gr. 11, university entrance and all that jazz.
Oh, and Domanskip's "Procrastinate-until-you-feel-sick-with-worry.-Then-when-you-study,-the-work-sticks-like-super-glue."-method has been working well for me thus far.

I use 40-min Study/15-min break method. It works well for me. Thanks to that method, I got good matric results (5 As & 1 B) ^_^
Good luck with the exams, guys/chicks.

My friend followed a similar method.... 15 minutes of studying, 4 hours of Halo 3, repeat. I was just there for the Halo 3 co-op and the Big Team Battles on Sand Trap. Matric Finals made up one of the most awesome months of my life.
