Why the G11 instead of the G15?

No need for the screen, I guess if I could go back now I would get the G15, but it doesn't put me at a disadvantage.

I don't have the specs of the review hardware, since every freelancer has their own hardware (they use their personal home machines). We don't have 'review rigs', and my work PC is a frankensteinian effort of several 'on loan' pieces that swap out weekly.
As for my home machine - I don't know its specs, probably because I rarely play games on it (these days, I stick to consoles since the PC has nothing interesting). It wasn't strong enough to play Supreme Commander, that much I know, and C&C3 had to run Medium settings.
My work machine is decent enough, but I rarely get to use it for gaming since when I'm at work, I work.
ok its old but it runs STALKER :)

Yes, there are games I am fond of - but I've played them, I'm not interested in playing them again. I had a brief stint with Two Worlds, but right now I'm basically just chilling with the World in Conflict beta and the Tabula Rasa beta - but both are transient, I doubt I'll stick with them long.
And how did you manage to break the quote when you quoted me? It's rather fugly when you do that (and you do it often, I've noticed), so try not to, please.

I know Chevron could have helped you here, not sure why he didn't:
As I mention in the FAQ, your best bet for such requests, is to head on over to the busy Prophecy Classifieds here: http://forums.prophecy.co.za/f7/
They have a lot of members with a lot of stuff they want to sell, so your chances are very high to find something like that, over there. It'll require you to create a new account there if you don't already have one, but that shouldn't be too much hassle.
Good luck!

2 gig ddr2
Pretty much just a WoW box, but I'm hoping it'll handle LotrO and WOL fine. Dunno bout Bioshock. Guess I'll have to be happy with some of the details turned down.
Question: I'm actually a bit of a PC noob these days having lost touch with the whole hardware thing. Does Vista 32bit handle 3gig ram fine? I'm thinking of adding another gig for some extra clout (ugh Vista is a pita, can't say I'm enamoured)
I've heard you need Vista64 for anything above 2gig ram(or is it 4? /shrug)

XP Vista32 and Vista64 depending on what I'm messing with. Usually keep winding up in XP to play games that don't like Vista.
It runs fine.
I got that GTX before they were on sale to the public yet. The Ultra is a huge disappointment since my day 1 stock GTX outclocks it easily.
We have a QX6850 around here too but it doesn't outclock the QX6700, it just runs at a bit lower voltage.

17" LG Flatron LCD
4 X 250gig Seagate SATA2
Only one problem, I've got a 350W PSU, so everything is seriously underpowered. It's a wonder my PC even boots.
I wana get a new one this week, but don't really have too much cash (after buying the 8800). Any suggestions for good PSUs that go for under R1000?

Well some people actually like stability and efficiency. Spending lots of money on a grand rig and then getting an el cheapo PSU is not something I'd recommend.

Even GLDM has that Aopen 700Watt PSU.
I other news-I got my CPU too 2.8Gh/z but its taking strin-It took 3 increases in Volts too get it stable.
Half life 2 death match is a great test for stability.
My FSb is hot. Very frikken hot so I will be adding more fans to the 5X12cm I already have inside.

You know. I sometimes get the impression that people are more concerned about how much they paid for their hardware and bragging about it, than, like, the rig itself.
It's so gauche.

I have a 19" LCD but I'm shopping around for a 26", 32" would be cool, but probably impractical. My TV sucks, I want more screenage but cant justify buying a huge HDTV. I can however justify buying a huge LCD panel that happens to support 720P or 1080I/P and attaching a tuner to it.
I don't really spend my money on anything other than my PC, except for living expenses. Um and whiskey and sometimes my girlfriend. It's my entertainment/communication/work/creativity/shopping centre.

Hence why I only recommended name brand PSUs and ones I've known to do well. The iSonic and Huntkey were impressive when we tested them, they meet or exceed specifications. Raidmax I've heard no complaints about and few on OCZ and CoolerMaster. Unlike say, the Antec Neo 500s we had that BOTH died in less than 6 months and took THREE motherboards with them!
As for the Aopen AO700, I've had one in my personal machine for about 2 years now, and it's still going. considering my OC'd CPU alone produces 300W of heat, you can imagine what the electrical load is on the PSU with that, an OC'd 8800GTX past Ultra spec, 4 HDs, 7 fans, and a waterpump combined.
More expensive != better.

I have to add that I'm poor. I know Mecer isnt a great brand. But it's not like they make their own hardware right? So how about this:

This will probably result in the same kind of hilarity I saw when Miktar and one of our layout guys tried using 32" screens as their monitors. They quickly found out they had less resolution than their standard 1280x1024 19" screens. But hey, if you don't mind losing about 25% of your desktop realestate go ahead.

I wouldn't use it for work, only for play :P I'm only considering it for gaming and movies. My television is crap. So this would replace that. I'd keep my 19" as my primary. Or save up for another 5 years and get the 26" with decent res.

That would be a downgrade. A big one. Don't replace it with anything less than 8800gts320mb.
But you know what? That might not even be a big enough jump to be worth it. Rather wait for next GFX refresh.
If you have to spend money on your pc rather get a Q6600.
