Got to agree with wisp, if you're going to do something, do it right. Hopefully Rockstar will be able to emulate what Remedy were able to achieve, if any studio can, it's them.

Would be much more comfortable with Remedy at the helm though. Will wait in anticipation.

    Breaking news: People fear change.

In other news, scientist determine that the rain is wet.

    ...Over to you, Diane.

Wrong , if your are making a sequel it must be a sequel and stick to the original design not reinventing the whole franchise.
Natural evolution is one thing, reinvention is totally different IMO

    Why? Who made that rule?

Nothing wrong with some change. If you don't approve of the new direction, you can always play the originals (not meant in a bad way).

If they had made it an RTS I might have had something bad to say though...

Reinventing the franchise does not necessarily mean death of the franchise. Some times a bit of innovation can breathe new life in to a franchise and pull even more players in.

Look at Warcraft for example. Sure, it had a huge following as a RTS and they took a ballsy move moving away from that genre, but since becoming an MMORPG have pulled way more people than before and you have to recognize that.

Anyway, you can't say that about this game in the first place because WE DON'T KNOW **** SO FAR. So while speculation is nice, I'm seeing lots of smoke, but no fires.

Nothing wrong with evolution... But I think it's safe to say we aren't getting the same experience the first two games were, which is kind of what we want. If they take out everything that made the franchise what it is, I'd call it a devolution.

So far it looks like Rockstar get what made Max Payne awesome, but are approaching it with a vastly different angle, which I can live with. You don't need a grey backdrop and snow for it to be called noir, and they understand that. I'm confident they can pull it off, but Remedy are the true masters of the craft, which is why I'd rather have them.

    Can't have everything though...

    .
Point taken but without the New York ,grey/snow backdrop IMO it just isnt Max Payne ,its like Doom with no Sarge or BFG,Quake with no Cain or strogg instead the enemy is Zombie barbie dolls set in the australian outback.

Ppl continue to buy sequels due to the famaliarity that get , the enjoy the experiance once and want it again.

Just cause the game is called Max Payne 3 doesnt make it Max Payne 3 , he left the big apple and is now in the vrot tamale (or whatever they call Rio). What is his montivation?Part 1 and 2 revolved around the death of his wife and child which drove Max .

.Dont mess with the classics please

Wait for some reviews or a demo wisp. Don't brand it a ****-up without giving them a chance.

All I can say is that I have very VERY little faith that it will be anything less than just another average stamping out of the "3rd-person shooter with cover elements" bull****. It happened to Mafia II, it will most probably happen to this... In slow motion, obv.

Max Payne's long lost baby cousin in Brazil only hears of the bad news of his bigger cousin's family getting wiped out and reacts accordingly by tracking down family members of Lem in South America.

    Now that is a storyline.

So it looks like this game is only dropping (rumoured) on December 1st!

Recently Amazon, along with GameStop and a number of other stores, have altered the release date listed for Max Payne 3 to December 1st of this year. While it's not unusual for a store to give it's own approximated release date for a game that has not had a release date announced, according to an email from Amazon this date was set by the publisher and not by them. If this true and with less than six months to go according to the release date, we should be seeing a storm of Max Payne 3 media and information soon.

    Hello,

We have received new release date information related to your pre-ordered video game in the order you placed on November 11 2010 (Order# xxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxxxx). The release date for the video game listed below has been changed by the publisher, and we want to provide you with a new delivery estimate based on the new release date:

    Windows XP "Max Payne 3"
    Release date: December 01 2011
Estimated arrival date: December 05 2011
Gah! First they say August, then September, October now...December?! When, Rockstar? When!? You've been keeping me on my toes all year.

    Some info from August's Edge:

Rockstar Vancouver “been involved with Max since the beginning”

    - Rockstar London, Rockstar Toronto and Rockstar New England are helping Vancouver

    - “We love Max and we want to continue to do right by him,” said Art Director Rob Nelson, “That’s the biggest challenge for us: the decisions we come to have to make sense for him.”

    - James McCaffrey returns as Max for Max Payne 3.

    - Max Payne 3 is set eight years after the events of Max Payne 2. Payne is done working with the NYPD and is now working for rich clients as a private security contractor in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

    - Max Payne was forced out of New York and the game will explain why.

    - Max is not "not the booze-soaked hulk we’d been led to expect".

    - Edge was shown a demo where the wife of Payne client Rodrigo Branco’s wife is kidnapped by the Commando Sombre street gang. Max must deliver the ransom to get her back. Max has partnered up with a guy named Passos. In this mission, Max has a full head of hair.

Max meets the gang in a football stadium to exchange the ransom. Shots are suddenly fired and Max is struck, which is when his health icon in the bottom right goes red.

The mission features Max making his way through the stadium, through broadcast rooms and snipers. Max has been equipped with a “high -powered rifle”.

The action is “fast and brutal,” says Edge, filled with “glass smashes, blood spurts, furniture collapses”.

    - According to Nelson, the game is “always playing with time in the story,” with it going ‘backwards and forwards” using “aggressive editing”.

    - The comic book frames are back but in a different style. Rather than static frames, Rockstar is using in-game footage that shows an animated collage of action.

    - Pain pills are back.

    - Max’s “classic narration,” is back.

    - According to Edge, MP3 doesn’t feel like a “standard corridor shooter.”

    - Bullet-cam is in and provides a “bloody full-stop to every encounter”. Bullet-time is also back. He can dive in any direction and reacts to the environment, Max even “thrust[s] out a hand or shoulder to absorb the impact”.

    - A cover system is in and the controls are similar to Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption.

    - Rockstar has “put a lot of attention on AI reactions, making sure that the force of the bullet feels right”. Enemies will duck even for "near-misses".

    - It's a wheel-based selection system for weapons.

    - Max can carry three weapons at once. Max dual-wield two single hand guns and Edge notes an “almost sensual attention to detail” when he fires.

    - Max will be using pistols, sub-machine guns, rifles, sniper rifles and more.

    - There will be multiplayer.

    - Environments are fully destructible

But why isn't there more noise about this? Max Payne is a HUGE franchise but I can't recall anything from either Gamescon or E3 about it. This has me worried, games that fly this low under the radar usually turn out bad. I really don't want this to happen to Max.

Well, I'm really hoping that the reason this is being kept so close to the chest is because they're really excited about it and don't want to spoil anything...but that's very wishful thinking.

What really concerns me though is:

    - Max can carry three weapons at once. Max dual-wield two single hand guns and Edge notes an “almost sensual attention to detail” when he fires.
Not sure about you guys, but I ****ing hate that this is the trend these days. Part of the fun was having so many weapons to choose from in the first two games, it makes the guns situational and adds more depth to the game. Being limited to two or three weapons just makes the player (well, me) grab the weapon which works best and stick with that throughout the game.

Regardless of play-style, I don't get why they would say

    - It's a wheel-based selection system for weapons.
If you can only carry 3 at once? I'm confused.

^^ With you on that one Nferno I hate this ****ing limited weapon ****, as for the wheel-based selection system its for console people cuz scrolling through 16 weapons will be quite horrid.... OH wait you can only carry 3 guns, **** knows why the wheel thing is there.

It didn't work for Duke, and it won't work for any character that has a history of carrying more then 3 weapons. I'm still holding thumbs for this, but I just don't see how Rio can be Noir at all. It's too bright and colorful. Rockstar knows their **** but it sounds like they are straying too far from what Max was.

And now I sound like one of those moaning gamers from that other thread. Oh dear.
