Max Payne 3 Coming March 2012

Today, we're proud to announce that Max Payne 3 - the new dark, gritty action experience that continues the tale of former New York City detective Max Payne and is sure to satisfy both newcomers and veterans to the historic franchise alike - is expected to launch on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in March 2012 in North America and Europe.

Still haunted by the memories of his traumatic past, Max begins a new life working private security protecting a wealthy industrialist and his family in Sao Paulo, Brazil. When gangs target the family under his protection, Max is forced to fight to save his clients and clear his name, in a bid to, once and for all, rid himself of the demons that have tortured him for far too long.

A true cross-studio collaboration between Rockstar Games’ global development teams that picks up from where series creator Remedy Entertainment's Max Payne 2 left off, Max Payne 3 utilizes cutting edge technology for a seamless, cinematic action experience, incorporating the latest advances in Natural Motion physics as well as a brand new iteration of the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine, resulting in highly-refined gameplay with an extensive range of realistic weaponry, an intelligent cover system and sophisticated Bullet-Time mechanics.

In addition to an expansive single-player campaign, Max Payne 3 will also be the first entry in the series to introduce a thorough and engrossing multiplayer experience. In a unique twist, Max Payne 3 multiplayer delivers a compelling experience that dynamically alters maps and mode progression for all players in a match. Along with traditional multiplayer modes, Max Payne 3 will also include a deep reward and leveling system, persistent clans and multiple strategic load-out options.

Stay tuned for much more news very soon and check out a pair of brand new screenshots from Max Payne 3 below.
    This is better. Much better.

From what I hear they're going to be doing the whole chrono-messing thing, where they keep slipping you in and out of different times in Max's life. That's why he has hair in some screenies and looks like Stone-cold in others :)

Max Payne 3 development cost $105m, estimates Analyst

Rumours of Rockstar's mammoth development investments are a given these days and this time it's Max Payne 3 under the spotlight.

Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia estimates that Rockstar has forked out around $105 million on the five years worth of development on the title. Bhatia goes on to say that the firm will need to sell four million copies just to break even.

The $105 million figure was reached by multiplying the estimated annual cost of the approximately 200-man development team (worked out at $100,000 a year per developer - a $20m annual total) by the total development time of around 5.25 years.

Four million sales seems like a lofty target just to break even, but Bhatia appears optimistic for Rockstar. "Life-to-date, the Max Payne franchise has sold through 7M units between the two prior versions -- Max Payne and Max Payne 2. We think the latest iteration, Max Payne 3, has greater potential for success than either of the two prior versions," said the analyst.

"Although the break-even unit level for Max Payne 3 is likely high -- probably in the 4M units range -- due to its long development time, we think the title is highly anticipated and has potential for upside surprise."

Take-Two recently announced an "expected" March 2012 US and European release for Max Payne 3.
Not so sure about that, but five years already? Can that be true? My optimism for this game is steadily rising.

In other words: "Yeah, we got that amount by guessing how much it would cost them per year with a crew of about 200 (Guessing here too!), then just multiplying that by the number of years they've worked on the game. Easy"

Edit: By the way, the first trailer is coming out in the next 2 days (Wed 14th Sept), so keep an eye out for it, though I'm sure somebody will post it in this thread :)

Eh, I dunno. Like some of the comments are saying : Apart from the music it seems more Bruce Willis John Mcclane than Max Payne noir.

On the bright side, at least this trailer totally reminded me to replay Max Payne 2 some time.

The trailer was magnificent but with Remedy out I have my doubts. Hope Rockstar can pull this off.

    More details

    More details on the game:
    - The combination of Natural Motion's Euphoria character behavior system and Bullet Time adds a new level to Max's classic shoot-dodge moves. Shoot-dodge is not a canned animation, but a natural interaction with the environment, as Max will reach out to the floor as he dives, and naturally respond to objects in his way if you attempt to dive into a wall or obstacle. This marriage of slow-motion gunplay and Euphoria physics amplifies the cinematic action of Max Payne 3 significantly, and enemies will also respond realistically to each bullet fired.

    - The ever famous Noir style is still there.

    - The demo started with Max having hair and looking quite slick as opposed to the screens they showed a long time ago, but as the game progresses it will show just how crazy and desperate Max becomes to survive.

    - Dual-wielding is back and has a bigger role, any weapon can be thrown into the mix now, so you can carry a pistol in one hand and an Uzi in another.

    - The game will alter with time frequently taking the player back and forth to show what happened before and how it relates to the present.

    - Other characters from previous MP games will be back.

    - The game will not have regenerating health like many shooters nowadays, it will be the same as MP always had and health can be recovered by taking pills.

    - Max Payne 3 extends the concept of Bullet-Time to now include game areas of the game that will trigger set pieces involving Bullet-Time. These provide epic moments of action that allow Max to take out enemies in a new interpretation of Max Payne's signature style.
Bullet-Cams return: in keeping with the stylish gunplay for which Max is known, Bullet-Cams deliver players a reward for downing enemies with a satisfying final kill

    - Max Payne 3 takes the graphic novel panels of the earlier games and evolves them by utilizing in-game assets to create a motion comic-style approach.

    - James McCaffrey, the original voice of Max, is back. Not only as the voice of max, but Max's appearance, face and many of his movements in Max Payne 3 are all captured directly from James himself.

    - Max Payne 3 features an integrated cover system. Cover adds an extra strategic element to the classic shoot-dodge/bullet-time/ run-and-gun mechanics of Max Payne, providing players with new options in any given situation.

-Tremendous detail has been paid to every facet of Max Payne 3: Bullets destroy nearly everything in the environment, sweat will appear on Max's face and shirt as the heat of battle wears on, and blood soaks the clothing of his enemies. You'll also notice the minute details of the weapons themselves: hammers **** back, slides move, shells expel from the chamber and literally hundreds more.
Partners and sidekicks will play a large role in Max Payne 3. Hundreds of hours of custom motion-capture were done for individual characters, making traditional in-game encounters completely unique, such as enemies sweeping a room or simply the way Max's partners will behave as they move through the game.

Max Payne 3 delayed to 'ensure quality'

Rockstar parent Take-Two has delayed the release of Max Payne 3 by two months from its original March release date to May, 2012.

The publisher says the decision's been made to "ensure that Max Payne 3 delivers the highest quality."
The aftershock of moving the shooter out of the fiscal quarter means Take-Two now expects to report a net loss for year 2012, it says.

"We do not take changes to our release schedule lightly, and this short delay will ensure that Max Payne 3 delivers the highest quality, groundbreaking entertainment experience that is expected from our Company," said Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two.

"Max Payne 3 promises to be one of our most exciting releases to date, and we are confident that consumers will once again be amazed by Rockstar's ability to take interactive entertainment to another level.

"With Max Payne 3 now slated for May, our robust lineup of upcoming releases for fiscal 2013 is even stronger, including BioShock Infinite, Borderlands 2, Spec Ops: The Line, XCOM, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, and other titles yet to be announced for release that year.

"Fiscal 2013 is poised to be one of our best years ever, with anticipated substantial revenue growth and Non-GAAP Net Income of over $2.00 per share. We are well positioned to deliver growth and profitability over the long term."

Rockstar Games plans to announce further details later today.
    Damn, delayed till May.
