Same goes for gaming. So what if someone just started playing games yesterday, and they see it as a medium for fun (what games were meant for) instead of seeing it as a serious hobby? The fact that they play games regularly, or even seldom, is what makes them a gamer. Not how long they've been playing games or what type of games they play.
P.S. I can assure you that you are not the "purest of pure", seeing as there is no such thing.
