This is nothing compared to some of you guys' stories.
Was cutting metal with the jigsaw when a small piece flew under my safety glasses and hit my left eye. It was removed quickly by the doctor but now I can't see well with that eye.
I once got chilly salt (at KFC) in my eyes (again..don't ask). It burned like you would imagine it to.
Accidentally punched a staple into my hand once.
Got my fingers slammed in doors numerous times
Broke my left wrist while playing rugby.
Emo scar and titanium plate as a result.
Metal detectors have been my bane ever since.

When I was 2 years old my older brother was teaching my sister to play golf. Now being small I liked anything small and spherical, so I ran to pick it up and WHAM, hit right in the middle of my forehead. To this day there is a smallish vertical dent. Otherwise I've been a very lucky chappy with very minimal injuries. >.<
Well I managed to break my knee in a hockey game (got whacked by the opposition strikers stick), funny thing is, I carried on playing (I could sorta run/walk) even though there was a truck load of pain). I only came off like 10 or 15minutes later. Only found out it was broken about 2 days after it happened, when we decided it may be a good idea to get it checked out at the hospital. Needless to say for the next 6 weeks I was on crutches.
Other than that, nothing really major, broke a finger playing cricket(batting, a guy bowled a beamer at my head - those of you that play cricket will know what that is), haha, I tried to hook it, and came off second best. As a result my finger is still a bit skew.
Oh and I ran the 2 Oceans last year, and then thereafter proceeded to train like demon for the up-coming cross-country/athletics season, managed to get stress fractures in both tibia (as a result of over training apparently). Again a fact which I only found out after the cross country season finished(6 X 8km races + training), I reckoned it would get better if I ran more, big mistake.
Apart from those three, and the usual other sporting bumps and scrapes I've been lucky.
Can't be any worse than mine. My sister dropped a gewigstootbal on my head.
I came off my bike on a dirt road yesterday afternoon :/
Now...I cant sleep because of roasties and a strange roundish hole in my arm XD
When I was around five or six my mom worked for Eskom, they sent out a little bus to pick up employees at their homes in the morning. My mom always walked down to the corner of our block to wait for the bus. One morning my brother, niece and I decided to accompany her. It was a really cold morning (we lived in Witbank where it gets really cold during the winter with think, icy dew) so my mother told us to head back and we raced home like kids always do.
There was no curb so we ran on the wet asphalt. I tripped in a pothole and slid face-first across the gravel. My mom was devastated but she had to go to work. Fortunately, my aunt was staying over so she took care of the wounds. My face was a mess of blood and black tar, but after my aunt picked out all the gravel from my face it didn't look too bad. After a couple of weeks my face healed up really well and left only a tiny, barely visible scar above my eye.
Years later, my parents owned a small 'caf?' shop in George where they sold everything from fish-n-chips and bunny chows to magazines and razor blades. The shop was stacked for some reason, which was a bit odd because most of the time business was really slow. Anyhow, while my parents were busy tending to the customers I got my hands on a little paper packet with a razor blade inside. You know, one of those big rectangular ones with the hole in the middle.
I remember trying to get the paper off with my nail and wham, loads of blood everywhere! You won't believe how much a finger bleeds. My mom grabbed a vanity case thing with plastic insides so it wouldn't leak and I held my finger over it while she drove me to a doctor. We emptied the bag twice! I lost a lot of blood that day. The crazy thing with a finger wound like that is how the blood sprays out like you see in campy horror flicks. Oh, and the pulsing!
Um, other than the above mentioned, let's see... I tore the ligaments in my one foot trying to get off a horse (now I abhor horses, stinky basterds) and I hit my neck going down a vert the first time. I had a helmet on, mind you, but the effing thing is useless when it comes to your neck. I had no serious injuries though just a bit of a nose bleed, which is strange because I hit the back of my neck :?
hmmm....worst injury.I took some shrapnel in in left leg and back from a mortor attack in Angola abck in '83.Woke up in 3 Mil in Windhoek 3 days later. Then was flown to 1 Mil in Pretoria as they had to remove more of the offending object from my leg ...was there for 6 weeks and they gave me a proplastic medal and R500.00 as compensation ...whoopee that was enough for me and mates to stay drunk for a whole weekend...ahh Happy days
Hmmm, worse injury was from sitting around doing nothing, caused my lung to pop. No seriously. Its called a Pneumothorax, when the lung deflates inside your chest, normally as a result of being shot or stabbed. Think of it as taking a needle to a ballon. Right, now I have whats called a spontaneous Pneumothorax, where the lung pops itself. Think balloon popped by an invisible needle that doesn't exist. Ok, so there's more to it than that but you get the point.
Its put me in hospital 5 times in 2 years, 4 of those times I've had to have an intercostal drain put in(in english, stabbed with a **** of a huge needle, followed by a tube to suck air out of me), twice ended up in ICU. I've had another 4 "pops" but not big enough to put me in hospital again.
After that, all the "real" injuries seem like nothing. Cracked a few bones in my right wrist(fell out of a tree), destroyed my pinkie and its tendon in my left arm(skateboarding, who knew?), a few burns on my right lower leg from a motorbike landing on me(7 year old who thinks he's super man on a small motor bike = fail), long scar on my inner right thigh(I got back into the tree, fell again), not to mention countless roasties from bikes and quads. Ok, that deals with the stuff up till i was about 11, after that... I took up computers and Parkour, and I'm no longer a retarded kid, so I don't really get hurt nowadays, not too bad anyway.
People, you can stop posting now, unless you went to Nam, you can't beat Wisp's story, everything else just looks pansy-ass now.
That's pretty hardcore **** Wisp.
Excuse my lack of common sense ( if it applies here :P ) but what is a gewigstootbal?
Ah Crompton - I went there for a stomach bug and got told to come back the next week. No Doctor or nurse even gave me a proper examination :(
Fer' real (kansai-style :P) ^_^
Some of you have had some close calls and some serious injuries, it's amazing just much damage & pain the human body can take, and thank goodness we heal well too.
I had several head falls during my childhood with a serious one when I was 15.
We went iceskating at Goodwood icerink and I was speedskating along real smoothly, next moment I was on my back with amnesia and paralyzed in bed at my mom's.
Anyway, I was taken to hospital, x-rayed and had major fractures in my skull, but fortunately I recovered within a week from the paralysis.
You cannot imagine the despair in your mind when you cannot move, this injury might have been physical, but the psychological impact was far worse lol
Wisp, glad you survived that mortar !
Well when I was young I got my foot stuck in the wheel of my dad's bicycle when he gave me a lift as I was too young to ride a bicycle yet.
Had my one aunts and uncle's dog attack me for no reason and bit me in my right side with his paw on the left.No scars though....Still scared of most dogs to this day! :( got my thumb stuck in the car door.Stupid!
Got bitten by spiders and got abit sick from them. :@ Hurt my left knee while playing cricket in high school during break time.My left foot slipped on a sandy patch while I was running and my knee went backwards as far as it could go and it has hurt ever since....
Busy playing on a big rock on the beach with my brother while on holiday about 2 decades agoa and I slipped and hit my left or right side of my head on it.Was ok and did not need any stitches....
