MI Digital closes down... who will distribute Xbox hardware now?

MI Digital, the much maligned local distributor of Microsoft?s Xbox 360, seems to have shut its doors for good ? Leaving the country without a distribution channel for the console, its accessories, and first-party titles; Fan favourite games such as Gears of War, Fable II and Halo 3.

There?s no reason for Xbox owners to panic just yet ? It seems Microsoft are aware of the problem and have issued an interim statement declaring that :

?Xbox 360 in SA have confirmed that MiD?s Holding Company went into liquidation this morning. Xbox in SA is currently looking for a transition solution but can assure retailers and consumers that this situation will not interrupt the supply of Xbox 360 consoles and games to the market. As soon as we have confirmed the way forward we will inform the media.?

Rumours of their financial demise started circulating when their Xbox 360 support was shifted to a company called Powercare. What?s to become of the hapless souls who have 360?s just waiting to die on them?

Wonder who will take their place. Hope it brings live in tow.

Sure someone will jump at the chance, the 360 sells like crazy over here. When I bought mine it was sold out everywhere. As for Live, I don't think MI had any say in that.

MFP (music for pleasure) is(or was) MI digital's holding company, they went bang yesterday and told -+220 workers via SMS don't bother coming to work.

Don't think the official distributor of Playstation would want to distribute Xbox as well, besides, weren't they also having some issues a while back?

Somehow I feel relieved now that I sold my 360. Lol. Oh well, I'm sure anothercompany will pick up the pieces and HOPEFULLY bring live in SA.

Those guys were great at making me think that I had bought the last 360 controller in the country. It was a great matter of pride for a month or so. ;P

I've always wondered how someone distributing Xboxes could do that badly. You must have something wrong with your company not to survive after the great holiday 360 sales.

I'm surrounding any Xbox I see with a ring of salt to ward off Red Ringage.
