That sucks. I'm sure I saw guys bringing their 360s last year. Oh well, PC only then.

Ok so I have a bit of a problem, everywhere I've looked for a red plug all that was on offer was an actual red plug. What this means is that I'll have to cut up the power cables that's attached as a single unit to my current normal plugs and attach a red plug to them, which is something I really really really don't want to do. I heard somewhere that one can buy an adapter that fits into a red plug socket where in turn one can then plug a normal plug.
Does someone know if these things exist and where I can find one if they do exist, and if they do exist and I can buy one, if I will be allowed to use it at the LAN?
I guess I could also have settled for buying a power cable with a red plug attached but I recently bought a new samsung screen and they don't use the same kinds of power cables as a PC's power supply uses.

Forgive the lack of gloves here.

It is certainly not rocket science to change the plug on any device. It does not change your warranty in any way. It does not modify the operating parameters of your device. It does not really change anything except allow us to comply with legislation.

I am not aware of any adaptor that allows you to plug a normal plug into a dedicated plug. That would defy the purpose and I am sure would not be legal in SA. You will forgive my lack of understanding your reluctance to comply with what I see as a very reasonable request.

The way I see it you have two choices.
    1) Comply by either getting a power cable with dedicated plug that fits your monitor, or fitting your power cable with dedicated plug (Cost should not be more than R10 if you fit the plug. Saw the plugs at Build it last week).
    2) Make your ticket available to somebody that does not have the same internal struggle to modify their equipment.

Please keep in mind that should you try and force your plug into the multiplug, I will have you cover the cost of the damage and certainly consider laying a claim of malicious damage to property. It might seem excessive but at the current cost of roughly R150 per multiplug it quickly becomes a huge cost to incur because people don’t respect our equipment. Just to overemphasize, to replace all the multiplugs for 2300 gamers is a cost of R172 500 calculated at a cost of R150 each.

We have our fare share of issues to deal with to ensure that rAge runs smooth and on time. This simple issue has been covered more than once and will not go away because you wish it. Please try and appreciate the fact that we do not complicate our life just because we can, we need these red plugs and that is basically it.

    1) I'm new to this NAG LAN business and seeing as you claim to have some vested interest in this event, referring to the equipment there as "ours", you shouldn't get all upset because a new supporter asks questions about the event on the very forum where people like you are supposed to help and give advice on the topic.

    2) My question was not without merit firstly because there wouldn't otherwise have been so many questions about it in the past and secondly because if I cut and fix a red plug to my new screen's power cable I'm 99% sure that the company I bought the screen from will not take my screen back if something were to happen to it, which in my point of view is a legitimate concern. But should I cut open my screens' power cable and fix a red plug to it would you take responsibility for my warranty being voided or my screens' subsequent inoperability ShadowOrphan?

    3) I never questioned the need for these red plugs at the event and I fully understand that there is no way around it for you guys all I was trying to find out was what my options are regarding the problem I'm having and what advise the forum members can give me. My "internal struggles" shouldn't have anything to do with it, if I'm concerned about my equipment and I want to ask a question about it on this forum I should be allowed to do so without any hassle from the moderation here.

Now I'm not some kind of brainless barbarian who'd try and force my standard plug into your red plug socket and I don't know why you would think I am seeing as from the very nature of my questions you could conclude that I'm a careful person when it comes to these things and that I'm merely looking for the best solution, not to vandalize your property. I think your threats were baseless and childish.

With that said I've gotten some good advice from some of the other members here and would just like to know whether or not it would be allowed for me to use a two plug adapter at the LAN which would take no more space than would be allocated to me already so I can plug my screen and PC into the power supply at the event without the need for me to cut up my power cables. This would ensure that I don't plug in any other devices at the LAN and would cause no damage to your system, whilst providing me with a solution that would avoid me having to take any unnecessary risk with my equipment?

Answer is simple: Buy a new powercable.

You mean one with a red plug attached to it, Cleric?
Yeah I would do that in a heart beat the problem is I don't think I'll find a power cable with a red plug that will work with my screen since it doesn't use the PSU type of socket. I'll probably be hard pressed to find one of those cables without a red plug on it. It's one of those cables with the converter box attched to it etc. you know like a laptop's power cable.
Even if I could find one of those cables, with or without a red plug, I'd probably pay around R400 for it....

Ok, firstly, being rude to the mods isn't going to do you any good.
Secondly, post a damn picture of what you need? I'm really not seeing the problem here...

I agree with vii. Have respect for the moderators firstly.
Second, post a pic, and we all can try to understand a bit more
third, if you dont want to cut your cable, youll have to:
a)Call or visit the place you bought the screen from and ASK them if the warranty will be void if cut
b)cutt your cable and put on the plug and thus taking a chance on the warranty
    c) buy a new cable with your extensive search and cut the cable and put on the plug.
    d)Buy a screen without issues
and fourth option is to sell your ticket.
    Enjoy

Well vii and Reforged, if a particular moderator here wasn't rude to me first and had showed me some respect then I wouldn't have been rude and disrespectful in return, actually if you look at the posts you'll see that I was nothing but polite and I can see no other reason for why you would stand up for him except for blind loyalty to someone just because he has some kind of ranking title or because you're brown nosing?

I don't need to find out where to get an adapter anymore but even if I did I couldn't post you a picture of one since I can't even find one using google, all I need to know now is if I can use one at the LAN so:

Now, if it's ok, I just want to know whether or not I will be allowed an adapter that won't cause anyone any grief, the kind I described in one of my previous posts, if I can't use an adapter like that then I'll make another plan.... no biggey.

Well, I for one have no loyalty to ShadowOrphan, and what would it help me to brown nose? He's only the rage mod?

My comment sprouted from the basic principles of being polite to someone who you're asking to help you. I reread your previous posts, they weren't as polite as you think... they were well worded but still rude and pretentious...

    From the official rAge site:
The LAN opens at 10h00 on Friday [2 October 2009] and closes 15h00 on Sunday [4 October 2009]
You should get there earlier, though. Things usually kick off at 10, and the queues get crazy.

I really didn't mean to be rude in this post, which basically has the feel and body of all my other posts. I asked the question I wanted to ask in the easiest and most direct way I could, even when I said "really really really" I meant it in the most light hearted way possible. When it comes to text it's all in the way you read it, I could read any one of these posts and interpret them as "rude and pretencious" or friendly and humble. The point is I wasn't being rude or pretencious and I don't think there's any good reason why my posts should have been interpreted as such.

So about that adapter I want to use.....? :)

Seems that you somehow missed the obvious.

?you shouldn't get all upset because a new supporter asks questions about the event on the very forum where people like you are supposed to help and give advice on the topic.?

Although you are correct in the fact that this forum is supposed to help, that?s why I created the thread in the first place, you might want to see how many times the question has been posted. That is where the problem lies. My ability to patiently explain the same answer in a different manner has become strained. Please also note that my attempt was not be rude, only very clear on the matter and therefore:

?Forgive the lack of gloves here.?

?My question was not without merit firstly because there wouldn't otherwise have been so many questions about it in the past and secondly because if I cut and fix a red plug to my new screen's power cable I'm 99% sure that the company I bought the screen from will not take my screen back?

Well my math works differently. If you want to replace your power cable and you have modified it, then yes they will most likely not replace it. If your screen packs up you will not need to replace the cable and as such this should not be a problem. No point in arguing this since either you willing cut it or you?re not.

?if I'm concerned about my equipment and I want to ask a question about it on this forum I should be allowed to do so without any hassle from the moderation here.?

Agreed but you should also be able to interpret previous responses or my response would be pointless. Since I have responded to this question more than once my patience was not at its best.

?I think your threats were baseless and childish?

It?s not a threat, it?s a fact. If I only responded to you then I would have PMed you. The reply was meant for anybody that reads the forum and has the same issues. I appreciate the fact that you asked and that was not overlooked. I do however need to ensure that other people reading this get answers as well, since their reference might be different.

?would be allowed for me to use a two plug adapter at the LAN?

I don?t have the time to look for it now but I am sure that it is stated clearly that no adaptors are allowed. If you understood the regulations requiring the need for the red plugs, you would understand the reason for adaptors not being allowed.

?if a particular moderator here wasn't rude to me first?

I do not think that you have been introduced to my rude side yet. I hope this is now resolved for you. If not, PM me.

    @ Schattenjager

Ok, there are two ways to deal with the red plug issue here.

The first way is to go about it the way everyone has at the moment, obviously getting no where.

The second way is the ask where do I buy a power cable with a red plug on it to use at the LAN, and wait for someone to answer your question with a short reply.

    Here's the short reply :

Go to any PC store that sells hardware, I'll use BT games(or whatever they're called, the PC shop at Northgate) as an example here. Go to the assistant and ask for a "Y cable with a red power plug on it". The assistant should know what you're talking about, if they don't, they shouldn't be working in a PC store. If however they're of the brainless variety, tell them its "a black power cord that has two cables running from it, with standard kettle plug type connectors at the end of each cord. On the other end, there is a red plug head, with the top pin(the biggest one) cut diagonally so that it fits into a red plug socket." They should know what you're talking about now. Ask them how much, if they say anything over R60, tell them to shove the plug along with the cable it's attached too up their ass.

This cable will work with any monitor and PSU, no need to worry about that, no need to modify your current cables.

If you still can't come right, I have a few of these Y cables spare, you're more than welcome to one if rage comes and you are still without a plan, PM me when and where is convenient for you, and I'll actually drop the cable off myself, assuming you don't live outside of JHB.

I really don't see the point of all this fuss, not the way it should've gone. If you have any queries about this, feel free to PM me with any further questions.

What a great idea. So if anyone in and around JHB finds a store that has Y-cables with red plugs, please post their details here. I have yet to buy mine, after I lost my previous cables in my last move.

Shopping centres where I've seen Red plug Y cables include :

    Northgate(BT Games)
Cresta(You can find anything at Cresta)
Brightwater Commons(ZAPS should have, I'll call them and tell them to get if they havent)
Clearwater Mall(havent been there in 2 months though so not sure if there are still there)
Rand Ridge Mall(Inter computers or whatever they're called now, can't say more about them because this site has a swearing filter. :/)

In fact if you're remotely near a big shopping centre, red plug Y-cables should be easy to find.
