What Servers?

Hi

So we have received the servers. Now I have to see how I will allocate them.

Give me your suggestions on what servers you think will be worth hosting. I might not reply to every comment since my time is a bit stretched currently, but I will read through the thread to help me decide whether I should allocate some resources to a game that I thought might be dead.

To start what I have considered:

COD4
COD5
CS
CSS

What I have not considered yet:

BF in any flavour
Americas Army
Track Mania
Quake incl Q3, Q4, ETQW
UT
Half Life 2 Deathmatch
Obviously games that do not required dedicated servers like DOTA, DemiGod etc.

Team Fortress maybe?

So let me know what you think will be well received and is in demand.

Question: If I bought and installed TF2 a day or two before, but didn't install the updates, would I be able to get the updates from a TF2 server at rage?

Don't think you can download them directly off the games server, but I know that last year they had a server for patches and the like. If you're lucky they may have TF2 patches.

What we have here, is a failure to STEAM. Please keep in mind that games requiring STEAM authentication is always problematic. Sometimes LAN versions surface that are quite stable, sometimes we get stuck with having to update from STEAM.

I will look into what is available for direct downloading, but keep in mind that we do not have internet access at rAge to update your STEAM. If your Steam is updated, then we might be ale to host a few games.

I’m guessing you are referring to the physical machines and not instances of games. The amount of servers is in excess of 10. Do keep in mind that these are real servers, not wannabe supped up workstations.

If you think you are wise when it comes down to game preference, rule sets and general admining of a specific game, let me know. I prefer that somebody from the community with knowledge that does not have an attitude problem admins the games that they are playing. Since we very seldom have the time and luxury to join in the fun, we don’t always know what gamemode would be preferred at a specific time and which gamer needs to be banned from a server. So if you think you qualify, contact me but keep in mind that we will go offline from Wednesday.

I do not doubt that it’s a fun game and still being played by a large community. Do however keep in mind that the DoGaming area already has 8 teams competing if I am not mistaken. This would account for quite a large portion of potential gamers wanting to play the game. In addition to this I agreed with AGASA that they host their official comp servers in addition to a more friendly let’s fool around server. This means that you should be able to play BF2 against and with the big boys. It just didn’t make sense to host any servers in addition to these servers.

just one more thing does anyone know if there is gonna be a assassins creed 2, demo/promotion at the expo this year?

im sure there should be since it comes out in november

Please advise what I have to do to Steam to ensure that I can play TF2 at the LAN? I believe there's an "off-line" mode somewhere.

Left 4 Dead 2 has not been released yet.So rather spend your time on gettin the UT3 server ready.
