Thread: Suggestions for 2008

    Default Suggestions for 2008

While the problems/highlights of 2007 are still fresh, prehaps a list of suggestions for next year that the co-ordinators can refer to next year?

My only suggestion is that prehaps Rage could be held earlier in the year? There is no more major E3 to attend and many people start exams in october making the end of september not such a great time. Granted, anyone could miss a weekend of studying, but recovery time during the next week would seriously deminish time available to prepare for the exams.

Prehaps August is a better time?

Good thread idea - as for the timing of when rAge is held: it's much harder to change that now than you think, and it's not that the date was chosen randomly or idly - it satisfies a lot of problems, more than it creates more. Changing the date might not be as beneficial as you think.

But I'd also love to hear suggestions for next year.

Haha... me too! And also Intel or anybody for that matter should not give away things that makes an irritating noise! On Sunday they gave away those blowing horns (not sure what they called) and it irritated me so much!

At the intel stand, it would have been better if each of the 2 screens showed different player for the CS games, preferably 1 from each team.
Maybe a complete catalogue of specials to make it easy to find the best deals.
Otherwise, just a couple more displays. I was expecting a bit more noise around world in conflict and hellgate.
Still, an awesome show. Thanks to all involved

lol... those Vuvuzelas (sp) were something else. Made me feel like I was attending a local soccer-match. ;D It was fantastic to see 'em (Vuvuzela dudes) so pumped up though, rather then dull and drab - made for an awesome atmosphere IMO.

Only grip was the spiking on the network, not sure if this happens every year or not. I know that it's a big network... heck, it was +-1500 sexy-man-gamers. ;D

Well considering there were like 10 DC++ servers running.... :( They should really try and ban that next year. Make an example of someone and send them packing if they host a DC++ server.

    1. I would like to see more information, even non official event info. I know there was a site but it was slow at times and not really updated. Would be nice for people to let the orgonisers know we have this server running at these times, etc and it is displayed on large notice board of sorts.

    2. Team Speak or other voice app server so you can chat even when people on the other side of the venue

    3. Food being allowed. I know we need to support the event etc, but the prices where steep and the selection limited, especially once the expo closed.

    4. People with more stamina, it was hard to find a game at 4am :P

But I still had a great time.

There where 10 DC servers?? would of been nice to let the rest of us know...

    To VC job well done

I never thought it was chose randomly or idly...something that takes so much of your time and effort would be carefully planned in everyway. I was just hoping...he he, oh well.

My only original suggestions are 24 hour cleaning crew. By Saturday night the bathrooms were shocking. Toilets blocked, mess on the floor etc... And a chill area, even if it is the other side of the dome, far away from anything. I understand the dome is not a holiday inn, but if it is a 24 hour event special measures need to be done.

No! Considering the shocker that was the VC site (shockingly old patches, not all games listed etc...), DC++ was great to not only get the stuff to play but also setting up matches through the chat (odd there was chat 2 years back on the VC site).
What they should do is a real network setup for a lan this size, and actually do some traffic priority or an alternative network for sharing.

What about a forum on the site? It's easy to do with a simple server somewhere.

I agree if the venue has the item (i.e. there was pizza so no bringing own in) but for things that the venue doesn't have we should be allowed to bring it in

I think it should last 1 straight week. Man I love the whole atmosphere of such a large event, taking that same trip outside for a smoke with other all-nighters....just randomly good-feeling! hehe. As for suggestions:

1- Ban people on the top from taking bean bags to sit on in front of their computers. Reserve them for people who want to chill.
2- Dim the lights a little more at night.
3- Execute the thieves instead of arresting them. Preferably knife them.
    4- Bigger, louder GH stand!
5- Get people to walk around telling those little swearing, shouting, annoying, rat-like, sons-of-bitches to shut the **** up! There were like 10 around me screaming across at each other...

Other than that, was some of the best 53 hours ever!

Ya the DC++ servers where grate and there was normally 1 main one and like 1-2 smaller ones.
It is simply much better than normal sharing and it enabled everybody to chat and arrange games and there was no need for a Mirc server.
I remember that there was a shout box on the site last year that was pretty cool.
I personally didn't have much problems with the network.

    lol
Thats a bit long maybe from Thursday to Sunday a extra day wont hurt :)
I remember we where discussing this on DC++ and most people said that they would
    like a extra day.

Overall the LAN and the Expo was awesome cant wait for next year !

The DC++ should maybe just have a time they are allowed to be up from 00:00 to 10:00 they do really help the leechers with the sheit windows network browser, I almost didnt leech at all :D game game game game, but my friends went crazy with the anime haha, i'll just get it later ;) further maybe just check security in the parking areas cuz some guy almost got mugged, and a kid got in saturday evening and stole a mouse, he didnt even have a green wrist strap, lucky he was caught!! (Those things are kak irrimitating btw, hurt my wrist while using my mouse)

Its been mentioned before, that sanctioned DC+ servers are out, due to the sponsors being those who are trying to sell games, they dont want piracy to be sanctioned by the organisers. So there will never be an offical DC+ server, as for a main chat server, like mirc or something of that nature, that would be awesome.

My biggest gripe was the food. Damn. Prices were mercenary and what was availble was pathetic. This is probably out of Nags control but it just made the event so much more expensive. And it just makes u feel like you are getting ripped off. The whole part of gaming for a weekend lan, is never having to move from your pc for anything, except toilet breaks, and smoking if your so inclinded.

The pizza's offered were just bad, the chip&dips were the most overpriced things eva, and the burgers by the food court, were also bad and overpriced. It would probably be the best way to improve the event, is to improve the food supply. Oh, and R8 for a cup of TEA!!!!! The mark up on that must be like somehting of 500%

Okay, they want to make money like everyone else, which is fine, all big events like this, dont let you bring food coz they want you to buy theirs, at inflated prices, normally this is okay. But the problem here is, its a weekend event, the variety was very limited, the quality was poor and the markups were just plain mercenary. Please fix for next year. ^^

And you couldnt buy large packets of chips? This is like the most important part of any lanners diet, its what you fall back on , at 4am when ur hungry and the food things are all closed.

    Barring that, fantastic event. :-D
