The percentages on these groups varies from year to year, however Group B remains the largest group by far, without fail, since 2004 (since rAge only started in 2003). So we must be doing enough right. :)
I think it also depends on what time you go. Giveaways for example make it seem better than what it is. Last I was around when the the xbox stand was chucking all the free stuff into the crowds. This year I didn't see one event like that.

Also i was thinking that every year there are the same stands and the same companies with nothing new to show (not counting the launching titles) maybe they can get different companies to partake

I am not the stubborn one in this situation - you seem to be taking a slight towards being told that your opinion is not gospel or the be-all and end-all of rAge.

Every year we do NOT have the same stands and the same companies, there is about 50% change in the entire lineup each year: I can post you lists of exhibitors for every single year of rAge if you want to check it yourself. For example, you may have noticed that there has been no PlayStation representation at rAge for the last two years.

I am not going to continue this discussion with you anymore, because it's getting nowhere. I'm sorry rAge no longer appeals to you.

Have a nice day.

This was my 1st Rage (for sure not my last). I almost fell of my chair when I read they actually hold things like that in S.A.

I know NAG has no control over the stands, but here are some of my high/low points.

What I liked was the LAN thing. I would liked to see 2 screens showing the viewpoint of the top guys on the LAN going at it with commentary. This was done in the EA tent on C&C3 and it was awesome. They tried to do it with need 4 speed and BF2142, but it did not fly so much.

Also liked the PC's/Xboxes just standing there allowing anyone to take it and play, but being from a calvinistic background it took some time to realise you can play for free.

Liked the Assassins creed and Halo3 area.

Did not like that some ppl were hogging the machines.

Did not like the big screen with the counterstrike competition. 2 screens showing the same thing with the commentator jumping too fast between players and bad/no sound.

Liked the give-aways. Some guys ahead of me got a BF2142 handed to them in the EA tent. Damn the arthritis.

Expected more booth-babes. Did not expect so may Goth/WOW/dress-up ppl.

Lastly would have liked more marketing on the event. I did not see/hear any adds on Radio/TV/other mags and (being not from Johburg) I almost drove past the dome due to lack of posters advertising the event only some small banners.

All-in-all I will definitely go again and next yr compete as well.

We'll try and solve those issues, - but a lot of issues you spotted are specific exhibitor issues, not something rAge itself can really try and solve other than putting our noses in everyone's business.

I think that next year we need more posters in the mag, please guyes, I really like the posters.

We're always trying to get more posters - but they require sponsorship. We're always trying to get sponsorship for more posters, but companies don't have infinite money to give us. :)

The best way to get more posters, ironically, is to buy more games. That'll give the distributors more advertising money to spend with us, which we can use for posters. ;)

Thanks, I know that sponsors for posters are very hard to find, but I really appreciate that you still try.

i liked rAge this year, but my friends were all bitchin bout there not being enough free stuff...honestly the one thg i'd like to see at 08 rAge is more stalls devoted to gaming and not hardware(being a consol guy i go for the games) :D keep the rock!!! long live The D's

Personally I prefer the hardware. The more the better. The only provision is that it should be up for sale at the event, not by post delivery some time after. If I see hardware that I know I need but I cannot afford, I want it now. I also find pre-release demos of upcoming games and the like very interesting. Normal games that are already on the shelf don’t interest me that much. The ETQW release I really enjoyed, and I can assure you that the LAN was buzzing with this game. Didn’t really have a chance to look around the show, but I did not hear a lot of bitching from the LAN side regarding the Expo. One should keep in mind that taste differs, so maybe don’t bitch about what there is too much off, because chances are that somebody is really into it. Rather point out what you felt there was a lack of. Obviously if there was 7 CNA stands this would not be applicable.

As Martin said, posters are uber welcome. Guys at the uni had no idea when rAge was - more their fault than anything, for having dodgey "close" friends who don't share the news. >.< If possible, radio and TV ads too - but only if possible, I can only imagine how expensive they are. ^_^

Default was there

I've now gone to rAge 3 years running.
Each year the LAN section gets better and better... but I feel that the Expo loses something of its own.

While I can understand that each side (pro lan vs pro Expo) calm that their side was the better experience I can only offer my humble opinion:

LAN:
1. Stop drunk people. There were some guys who come in on Sat night and were drunk. They then proceeded to make a racket upstairs and disturb the guys (and girls) who were enjoying themselves.
2. Food. Yes this is an issue every year and yes NAG does not have control over it. NAG can how ever have a poll to see which food vendors the public and gamers would like to see there and then provide those results to the franchise's who are listed.
3. Toilets. Again not NAG's problem per se but instead it was the Dome's problem.
4. Sectioning the gaming genres. In 2K6 there was an option to "book" a few chairs for you and your buddies. This year that did not happen due to time limits. 2K8 would see that people can book chairs yet at a price. R10 per chair. This should keep down the amount of people who book and then do not sit where they were allocated. Also the price should be able to cover the extra cost incurred by this extra feature.
5. Lights out. After 21:00 at night the lights are to be switched off. And then switched on again at 06:30. Also during this time maybe some pre-selected music be played although not too loud.
6. Have big LCD TV's showing the people at the Expo, who walk by, what games are being played... think SourceTV. This bridges a gap between "them and us" thinkers.

EXPO:
1. Divide the expo into 2 sections. Displays and commerce. For vendors only displaying their warez let them stick together. For guys who want to sell equipment let them stick together as well. This will create a small business market which will see people doing business do good business... also security can focus a bit more in this section owning to the trade that will take place there... and the people who feel 5 fingered discount is the way of the day.
2. Exclusives. If a game gets released in early November or late October get the importers to make sure that those games are first at rAge. Make it so that rAge is the only place you will get those games 1-2 weeks ahead of time. The games that are not sold can always be shipped off to the retail chains.
3. Hardware. People who go to expos expect to be wowed with "you'll pay it cheaper only here for this limited offer". Also people want to buy the shy-nie stuff they see there. The moment someone walks away from a display, that business is lost.

Misc:
1. Testing ground: Invite Valve/EA/{insert game vendor's name here} to release beta/demos at rAge and also do a Q/A with the gamers to find out what do they enjoy about the games. They can also see/find out how their games are accepted in the market and also see some of their technical questions answered.. e.g. "if we have x amount of servers running our game, what impact does this have on the surrounding environment?"
2. What's your hardware. Valve has a nice site that shows what their gamers are packing under the hood... I would like to see what the average display card maker is that is installed on the computers at rAge.
3. For those people that think that gamers grow up to be loon's who go school children culling, let them see the community that grows with people that interact with each other.

I've got some other ideas but for now I've got to stop... I is R have to go home now.

Well-structured ideas with some thought behind them. I will copy relevant stuff from this complete thread as things to ponder for next year. I am almost 100% sure that time will become even more complicated next year. Although we also have ideas, some don’t make it because lack of resources and/or money. I do however appreciate honest straightforward feedback without getting personal.

Paying for booking sounds a lil dodgey IMO. There wasn't an official booking system this year, and the MODs on this forum did say it's cool to hold places for friends up until it got really packed and seating became a prob - I came at mid-day on Friday and a clan buddy held a few seats next to him for us, other peeps came asking for seats by us but we told them we're saving these two for guys who are coming a lil later. They swiftly moved on with no hastle. I still believe the "coming early to hold places for friends" is a viable option (if done moderately - not holding an entire row of seats).

Whoa. I was seated on the floor section of the Dome and felt that lighting was perfect - was jamming thru out the night and went to sleep at 5am on both days, so there wasn't a clean cut 9pm-6am scenario. When I went to visit some other clans on the top section of the Dome (for the DotA comp), it seemed their lighting was so much worse than ours (too dark to even see the letters on your keyboard). So, IMO, if lighting is an issue (ie. you're of the "Night-Walker" breed preffering the dark), try and get a seat on top. ^_^

Since this is a suggestion thread for 2K8, just wanted to share my opinon on those two things I believed should not be changed.

@CLAN_DiCE - Goes without saying, no offence implied with me disagreeing with you, and looking forward to reading some of your other ideas.

NeoN... its cool. I'm glad to hear of your point of view and your experience of rAge. And no... I'm not going to get cheesed coz some one has a different view point to what I have. The constructive feedback that the organisers get from this forum will only help to create better expo/lan in the future.

BTW I meant to say R10 per seat booking... although how that money will be collected will create an issue on its own.

I thought Rage this year was pretty cool(it was my first time @ the open lan). The only real issues I had were that certain stalls(i.e. CNA) had no special deals whatsoever. I mean come on, its an expo, people come there to get special deals. Also in the expo, there was no supervision on the "try this game" stalls. So often there would be the same people hogging them the whole time. Being there for the whole weekend, I still didn't try out all the things I wanted to(but it wasn't a major issue to me cuz I was lanning). Another thing was that in the mornings they wouldn't simply let the people from the lan out into the expo and people just stood around the gates for ages till the guards actually opened them. The only other thing I found was that not all the competitions were properly organised and advertised as myself and a couple friends wanted to enter the dota competition and were too late because we never knew when and where to register and a friend won a dota(1v1) competition where everyone who entered payed R20(and there were around 30 entrants) and all my friend got was R100. I think things like that are unacceptable.

Otherwise it was an awesome event and I look forward to next year.
