I own the X-530 set, and they are absolutely awesome. I don't know how good the ones you were looking at are, but if mine is anything to go by, its worth every cent.
I've got the Z5500's. Best. Investment. Ever. I find you generally can't go too wrong with Logitech as a brand.
I wish I had enough money for the z5500! The one thing thats bothering me is the cable length for the back speakers. How long was the cable on your guys models?
I bought the z500 ages ago, and they're still awesome. Granted I haven't used them this year (being in the states and all) but for a long time they rocked my world...and those of my neighbors.
z5500 are simply amazing. With a decent sound card they are absolutely mind blowing.
The rear cables are really long, between 8 and 10 m I think... Didn't measure...
Try find the extra cash, completely worth it...
I've got my Z5500s hooked up to my PC and Xbox in my lounge. The sound is simply staggering. Barring something going wrong, I'll never buy another speakerset. But they are a little expensive. My recommendation is to either look around the prophecy.co.za forums for a demo set, or to save longer and buy them retail.
Here's a top tip for you: if the cable isn't long enough, 2 core flex works fine as a temporary solution (and only costs about R2 a meter) until you are ready to splurge on proper speaker cabling (about R8 a meter) or if you wanna be a true Audiophile, Klotz cabling which is about R40 a meter :p
Seriously though, 8-10 meters is actually longer than it sounds.
Thanx for all the replies. I'll do some measurements and see. Plus i think I'll save up some more, c how much money I have after christmas! Thanx again.
Trust me, you will not be disappointed with the Z5500's. Something else to take into consideration is the number of inputs you require. The Z5500's have one optical input as well as 3 stereo inputs which can be switched to utilize one 5 channel input. Also, if you are going to look at a high-end setup make sure they are THX certified for maximum enjoyment.
I have a sony 550w RMS hi-fi ,payed R2500 and the sound quality is great ,even the price is not bad either
Do this.
Get the x-530. This will be your basic sound. Spend the rest on a G35 headset :O
is the G35 a good Headset? coz whenever i go to a LAN, people complain about my sound. so i need a competent headset now.
X-530 recommendation from me here as far as speakers go. Trust me, every person around knows when sound is put up to maximum and last time I had the sound at that price was 4 years ago. Wooden house tends to amplify the sound ever so nicely and 7 Nation Army on it, you can put the picture together.
If however you need to keep the to a low volume but still want a massive output, go for a Seinnheiser - http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser..._pc_pro-gaming
I have used some of their professional headsets before and had the volume maxed and nobody around me could hear the sound.
I can also testify to Zalman headsets and while you can hear the audio outside to a degree, they are very well made.
All of that lot should fall under the 2k range and if you do a little hunting around, Cape Town, Durban and Joburg/Pretoria are all large enough to find something.
