Openweb Gold is the best bet for those who have enough money to cover the cost. Otherwise, I've had nothing but good times from Telkom Uncapped, but that's probably down to the fibre circuits they've been laying in my area lately. In terms of capability:

    1) OpenWeb
    2) Webafrica
    3) Mweb
    4) Telkom Uncapped

Very good if you don't need daytime speeds. You will obviously need a 10meg enabled line.

Yes, he'd have to find out if 10meg lines are available in his area first.

*Super-Manly James Donaldson smashes through a brick wall as an explosion erupts from behind him*

Two Telkom Technicians Failed! But James Donaldson succeeded! Using his overpowered and handsome brain he tackled the impossible problem that plagued his home and defeated it! Yes, James Donaldson fixed his ADSL speed where all others failed...

...by replacing the 30cm phone line between the surge protecter and the wall.

Seriously I feel so stupid and also mad that, that was the problem that no one could solve for 3 weeks and I figured it out in an hour.

Now I have to contact Telkom...

My Lord, if you had told me you used a surge protector I'd have told you to chuck that damn thing out the window already! :-P

Especially the Billion ones, those are useless. Good on you, though. Something for everyone else to remember next time as well.

Hey guys, long time to see :)

Anyway, here's my problem. I moved in with my girlfriends family but they only have a 3GB cap. Now the dad who pays for the line etc only has a 3GB cap and doesn't want to upgrade/change, so I bought a 10GB Web Africa account so I don't cap them within the first 2 weeks....

But now what I want to know is, can I use a second router on the same line so as to run the two accounts concurrently without using bridge mode on the one router? The dad's quite stubborn and doesn't want me to fiddle with his router switching accounts etc.

    Thanks xD

Can't you put the router in half-bridged mode?

Put the router in half-bridge mode and then create a dial-up PPPoE session on your computer to log into your account. Its only one setting that needs to be changed, and provided the line doesn't drop you shouldn't use up any of their cap.

Also, get uncapped. It rocks \m/

Its been officially almost 7 months that I have visited...

Anyway, on to my point: For those interested in a new internet account look no further than www.openweb.co.za.

At the beginning of the month mweb has terminated our agreement (If you don't ask, I wouldn't have to lie).

Since then, I have switched over to openweb. They have given me a test account over the Easter weekend and I'm never looking back. I subscribed to the Openweb Silver Uncapped 4Mb they currently have on special and its infinitely faster than MWEB could ever dream of being.

Their accounts are shaped during the day, but don't be fooled. The shaping works like it should and only low priority bandwidth protocols are shaped. You can surf lighting fast and so far, our video streaming isn't half bad either.

This is only my experience with them so far and they have impressed me.

Awesome news. Time to go back to the hallowed 1meg after having to cut to 384k to save a bit of cash while studying.

From what I can tell the 1 mbps option will still be about R150 more than 384kbps when line rental is added. I'm trying to convince my landlords son to do this for us.

R488 - R329 = R159pm incl line rental. No reason not to do it, especially as all it takes is a call to M-web and no extra installation/admin.

Do any of you think there's any truth to the speed upgrades? I thought it was pretty much confirmed as fact, but apparently it's nothing more than a rumour at this point. Really hope it's true, though.

Well, Telkom's got VDSL already on the cards and laid out in a few areas for trials. When it becomes more widespread we'll see all those 10Mb/s subscribers upgraded to 20Mb automatically. For years Telkom has always had the cheapest package (384), the middle option (512k, double speed) and the 4Mb package, which is eight times the middle option's speed.

They've already upgraded the 4Mb/s option to 10Mb/s depending on exchange support. If they do upgrade this year, its a given that they'll follow the same pricing structure they've had for the last six years. I've already seen fiber optic cable laid in my area in Jeffreys Bay and in many, many areas around PE. So if not this year, then definitely the next.

    Holding thumbs though.

You sure that optic fiber is Telkom's?

Telkom van with a guy in a Telkom shirt. Not sure if trolling, or....? I'll take a picture the next time they come around to connect up more things.
