Whoa why is anyone bothering with MWEB when Afrihost is giving 4mb uncapped for the same price as their 384k uncapped ?

Sounds a bit to good to be true, gonna phone them tomorrow and find out how it all works and if its shaped or not. If it allseems okay and doesn't involve a contract, then ill sign up for 4mb uncapped for R500 any day.

Mweb 384k uncapped is R350 (includes line rental)

Afrihost 4mb uncapped is R497 (excluding line rental). Add on another R413 for line rental and you get the total.

I just signed on to the 4MB package earlier today. I'll post impressions once I get home next wednesday :P

Hmmm... didn't think of thunderstorms. Good point.

Would steam downloads fall under the torrent variety in terms of shaping?

On the myBB forums, Steam is listed as one of the usage scenarios that both Afrihost and MWeb pledge support for, and won't put down as improper use. Downloading games will be a breeze with these accounts, as I believe it was mentioned somewhere in the 1200+ comments that Steam downloads are to be given the same priority as other HTTP downloads like Windows Updates and e-mails because of the way the Steam client manages bandwidth.

If all seems well, then ill probably grab the 512 line from Afrihost, will be the same price as my current line. But faster.

I am not 100% sure but I think it falls under normal http downloading.

Anybody have any idea about WOW updates? If I remember correctly they are done on a peer to peer basis.

@Azraphael: I think that DoGaming hosts them, so you should be able to download them locally. Could be wrong though

I've moved my Afrihost account across to 4MB uncapped as of the 1st of April. So far we've gotten nothing but excellent service from them, so I'm expecting no difference on uncapped :)

Does this mean that you and Aeq will be on Live a little more frequently from now on :) ?

The WOW updates are hosted on Telkom's Dogaming servers the last time I checked, so even if P2P is shaped, you'll still be hitting 350Kb/s without a sweat. And if you have to get them from an international server, I imagine there won't be much shaping either, except on high-load days.

I'm signing up with Afrihost as soon as I get my telephone and ADSL line installed/activated, which could be in a month or so. I'm tired of fiddling with my Samsung data cable and having Vodacom rob me blind.

Us being on Live has less to do with haxternets and more to do with workload :(

But yeah, one of the things we want to do ASAP with uncapped is grab the latest Borderlands DLC, for 3 boxes that translated to a ton of downloading...

I'm seriously considering upgrading my existing Afrihost 5GB account to the uncapped option. It's more expensive but it's just. so. tempting.

I really want it for the Steam and Xbox Live downloads, goddamn.

Will probably do that tomorrow then...

We're also on the Afrihost 5GB account, but we will be upgrading to the 384k uncapped only once it's made available. Speed isn't my main concern right now...

We've hit 18gigs for the last two months on a 10gig package, so it makes sense for us to switch over to uncapped and save. Plus then we don't have to be as careful as we have been (yeah, I know, boggles the mind).

Will uncapped be slower than capped? In the Afrihost mail I got, something like that was mentioned.
