    They are all names of desserts.

    i.e 2.1 = Eclair and 2.2 = Froyo (Frozen Yoghurt)

    Angry birds has been updated on the Android Market, its got 45 new levels (i think)!

    Opera Mobile Beta 1 for Android is also out on the Android Market - doesn't work for me though (Froyo + HTC Desire) it just crashes on startup.

    Angry Birds wasn't available for me in the Market at first (Tattoo, Adroid 1.6). I managed to get hold of it anyways though, but it didn't run properly. It seemed like the graphics were all displayed off screen.
    After the latest update it suddenly appeared in the Market for me, but it still wouldn't display propperly. It sucks. I'll try reinstalling quickly to see if it makes a difference.

    Opera Mobile is downloading right now; I'll check it out and let you guys know if I think it is worth it.

    AFAIK Angry Birds is only for Android 2.1 and 2.2? I could be wrong though.

    I'm quite keen to hear how Opera Mobile goes for you.

    Something that kinda shocked me..
    Sony erricson has a policy with the X10 phones
    It seems that several batches were shipped that randomly overheat and restart.
    And people that got one of these bad phones have to send it in at least 3 times as per company policy before it is repaired or replaced.

    But there is good news for X10 users as well as they will soon be getting another update to enable dual touch.

    In other x10 news the bootloader has not been cracked yet but XDA developers "jeperia and siszu" are working hard to bring a working 2.2 froyo rom to the x10.
    So far they have showed preformace results that are staggering compared to the standard SE X10 firmware.

    In other droid news the GALAXY S still rocks!

    Here's something interesting..
    Android versions are alphabetical.

    C = Cupcake = 1.5
    D = Donut = 1.6
    E = Eclair = 2.1
    F = Froyo = 2.2
    G = Gingerbread = 2.3
    H = Honeycomb = 2.5 OR 3.0

    Yeah, very interesting, Legion.
    I've always been too lazy to look up exactly what each version of Android is called, and you just made it a lot easier for me :P

    If anyone is looking for a brand new, lower end Android phone you should look at the Samsung Galaxy 5 (i5500 / Europa).
    My ex girlfriend got one last week on her top up 135 contract. The pay in was R479 (plus R150 admin fee for the upgrade).
    My bro in Windhoek said he can buy one for R2400, which is really affordable for a pretty cool phone sporting a 600mhz cpu, 2.8" capacitive screen, running Eclair. You might even be able to get one for a bit cheaper in SA.

    Samsung Galaxy Tab Sports 'Porn' Button

    The Samsung Galaxy Tab may be a wonderful device, but it seems that even the best engineers and writers make designs slips every now and then. And while this particular slip below may be nothing more than an honest mistake, it probably managed to fool many into thinking that the Galaxy Tab came with a certain 'bonus feature' which would have the family-friendly iOS-based devices reeling.

    Of course, there is no way the Galaxy Tab would come with a dedicated button for users to access some rather questionable content. Rather, this little incident came about due to an issue with the translation over at Samsung. Apparently, 'Start' is 'Pornire' when translated into the Romanian language, and Samsung may have felt that it was too long a word to fit under the 'Home' icon. Hence, 'Pornire' was subsequently shortened to 'Porn', and the result is that most of us get to have s little laugh at Samsung's expense.

    However, whether any heads will roll over at Samsung for this unfortunate slip-up remains to be seen. But for now, it would probably be in everyone's best interests to remember that the 'Porn' button in the Galaxy Tab will only take one back to the Home screen, and not to a secret, private repository of NSFW content.

    Specs for Motorola Everest tablet leaked

    The other day we showed you Google VP Andy Rubin clutching a Motorola Everest tablet at the D: Dive into Mobile conference. Of course, once you saw it, you wanted to find out all about it and according to a person who happens to know his way around the device, the tablet will launch in both 7 inch and 10 inch versions.

    The Motorola tablet will come in different models that will connect to UMTS, CDMA and LTE. Under the hood will be a NVIDIA Tegra 2 T20 dual-core chipset and will feature both a front facing camera (2MP) and one on the rear (5MP). The WXGA display will have a 1280 x 800 resolution and will come with 32GB of internal storage and include a Gyroscope. Don't forget that Android 3.0, Honeycomb, will be running the show as the first Android OS to be optimized for tablets.

    Looks awesome! I actually want one now. :O

    ExoPC hacked to run Android 2.2, Microsoft sobs

    Well, what do we have here? An ExoPC running Android 2.2? Oh yes, it's Microsoft's worst nightmare, and it has indeed been accomplished by one of ExoPC's devout forum members. The details in the forum thread are extremely sparse, but apparently ExoPC fan MrWilson has added a Froyo boot option to his 11.6-inch, Windows 7 ExoPC and has gotten both touch and WiFi working within the Google OS. We're hoping he'll post detailed instructions on how he got this all working soon, but in the meantime we leave you with the poorly shot video of it all after the break. So, does this make you even more inclined to buy the $699 tablet from Microsoft Store? Oh the irony!

    LG Announces Smartphone with Dual-Core Processor
    It seems that LG has made an even smarter smartphone. The company unveiled its Optimus 2X today, the first phone with a dual-core processor, likely making it the fastest model on the market when it becomes available in early 2011.
    Upon release, LG's smartphone will run Android OS 2.2 and will be upgradeable to Android OS 2.3.

    "Dual-core technology is the next leap forward in mobile technology," said LG CEO Dr. Jong-seok Park, addressing the groundbreaking nature of a dual-core smartphone processor. "The LG Optimus 2X is proof of LG's commitment to high-end smartphones in 2011."
    The Optimus 2X will be powered by the dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, running at a clock speed of 1 GHz. The system-on-a-chip will provide a faster, smoother experience for users when browsing the web, playing games, or watching videos.
    Other features of the Optimus 2x will include a 4-inch WVGA touchscreen and an 8 GB removable microSD memory card (up to 32 GB cards supported).
    It will also offer rear- and front-facing cameras which will allow for 1080p HD video playback and recording as well as and HDMI mirroring, so any video streamed to external displays will be expanded to full HD quality.
    LG has not provided a U.S. release date yet, but said in a press release that the Optimus 2X will be available in Korea next month, with European and other Asian countries to follow.

    It would appear its not just the x10 then so there will be unhappy x10, x10 mini, x10 mini pro and x8 users as well extract from web below

    http://se-xperia.com/xperiax10-range...t-android-2-1/

    Despite all the uproar about Sony Ericsson’s flagship Xperia handset having an outdated OS when it launched with Android 1.6 and when the company released Android 2.1, when 2.3 was just around the corner, the company have announced that they

    will not update the Xperia X10, X10 Mini, X10 Mini Pro, or Xperia X8 past Android 2.1.

    Sony Ericsson have already come under fire for the delay of Android 2.1 on the handset and several petitions were started online asking Sony Ericsson to skip Android 2.1 and go straight to 2.2. This wasn’t to happen though, as 2.2 aka Froyo, will not be making it’s way to the Xperia X10 range of handsets. For the US particularly, this has given the handset a minimal lifespan, consisting of less than 6 months. Unfortunately, Sony Ericsson don’t see it this way. They have promised further minor updates to the handset, such as the multi touch update, coming sometime this quarter but, the Android version will not be going any higher.

    When questioned via Twitter, Sony Ericsson UK replied with that they believed Android 2.1 was adequate for the X10 range. As a general statement across Twitter, they stated “We believe the features included in the Android 2.1 phone are on par with, and in many cases better than, a vanilla installation of 2.2″. A direct reply to a user message consisted of essentially the same statement “We believe the version of Android 2.1 which we have implemented on the X10 is suitable for the hardware of these particular models”. This of course means, that the Xperia X10 will not gain flash support and despite minor updates in the future, this announcement will have effectively ended the life span of the X10, not to mention the imminent release of the Xperia Arc, which will come with Android 2.3 when released.

    As you can see Sony Ericsson has lost all credibility with a large set of the phones they make now.
    There have been loads of reports of bad hardware and software on several of these phones.
    And returns do not come easily as most people that bought the x10 were on contract.
    some x10 owners cannot even update to 2.1 due to some hardware problem.
    There are many reports of battery failure causing the x10 battery to overheat while charging, suddenly becomes fire hazard.
    Considering i have one of these malfunctioning x10's that seen to generate alot of heat.
    I was sup prized to find a ticking time bomb next to my bed.
    Luckily i had insurance and i returned it.

    I've just installed Android on my HTC Diamond. Slightly slow seeing as it wasn't primarily built for the phone! But WOW! I am epically impressed with the software! it's brilliant!

    Really loving the experience I'm getting a BlackBerry at the end of the month and then I will complete a complete Port on my HTC to mess around with Android some more.

    I already have my XBMC remote installed and it works like wonders! who would have ever thought that I would be selecting media to stream from my mobile on my TV!

    Just can't believe the technology! I'm still a noob but got the OS to work nicely. Next step completely converting the HTC to Android

    Not sure this has been mentioned yet but the best Live wallpaper you can get for Android is the Doom guy. He runs around shooting demons but you can give him guns and health if you touch the screen. Just go to the marketplace and search for Doom guy live wallpaper.
