Default PlayStation Move - Official Thread Of Well-Placed D-Pad

Anybody plan on getting the Playstation Move in the near future or on launch day?

    Here's a review from LazyGamer:
    The Good

    + Solid controller hardware

+ Great tech that works well

    + Precise 1 to 1 control

+ XMB Interface works well with Move Controller

    + Comfortable controller design

    + Simple setup

    + Price

    The Bad

    - Launch titles are for casual gamers only

    - Some issues with lighting

    - Space requirements may cause issues

    - Flimsy camera lens

    - Requires two controllers to get the full experience

    - Constant calibration

    Conclusion:

I have come away from my experience with the Playstation Move with no doubt in my mind that this is a really solid piece of technology that does everything you would expect. The level of build quality and design is high overall and it is a welcome addition to the Playstation 3 as an entertainment system.

It’s launch line-up lacks a real killer-app that would want you to rush out and buy it immediately, but with the potential it displays as far as hardcore shooters and even strategy games are concerned, there is a good chance that you would want to pick one up at some point in the not-too-distant future.

If however, you have a family (especially young children) and don’t already own a Nintendo Wii, the Playstation Move will be a great addition to your gaming gadgets and one that everyone will be able to thoroughly enjoy.

    Final Verdict: Thumbs-Up
He missed out on the fact that R.U.S.E, Heavy Rain, Tiger Woods 11, another golf game, and the MAG Beta already have Move support though.

Here's a demo of it's capabilities, pretty impressive.

I'm sure Resident Evil 5 has Move support too. Which makes it automatically awesome.

I think just the Gold Edition though?

Unlikely for now. My PS3 gets barely any action as it is, and Move isn't going to give it any more. Also, I ain't shelling out all that cash for a glorified Wiimote - I'll wait till the price drops by half.

Nope, no chance of me getting it until there is a killerapp of some sort. Althought the Deadspace Extraction remake could be worth a look.

(also, you mentioned Heavy Rain twice)

Yeah, the launch games ain't much to write home about, so definitely won't be getting it this year. As was the case with the PS3 when it launched, the attraction is more in the potential it offers.

The implementation in R.U.S.E, for example. I'm not interested in this game specifically, but it shows that it can change the way RTSs are played, and if it's implemented in some other RTS (the next Supreme Commander?) it's something I'd consider picking up. And I'm definitely going to be using this for Killzone 3 and LittleBigPlanet 2 (maybe even InFamous 2, but I can't see how the Move can be used with a game like that).

I must say though, the only game built from the ground up to use Move that's impressed me is Sorcery :/

LBP2 you say? Guess that's something worth looking into.

wii are gonna move to a kinetic beat for years to come.

it's kinda silly tbh. i can't see myself swashing my buckle around in the living room. when the wii came out it was fun for a little while to play at my friends house, but even then i sat on the couch with the remote.

maybe if they incorporate the mechanics into all the fps games on ps3 (old and new), maybe then I'll get one.

Lame that they don't have the other controller bundled with the move and the camera.

    This

Apparently content creation is going to be much faster thanks to move being incorporated. You know, the PC market has a similar device that can give you the 2D 1 to 1 motion capture that the move is raving about? It's called a mouse. That being said, with the added 3D sensors I will be buying a Playstation wiimouse, just not yet.

Your Wii plays games at 1:1 accuracy, RTSs, Killzone 3, etc?

Yes, it's a glorified WiiMote (which isn't entirely true, seeing as the Wii doesn't make use of a camera) but it's going to offer experiences the Wii doesn't. Same goes for Kinect, which is focusing on games built from the ground up to support it, unlike the Move, which is being added onto existing games.

Seriously, each control has its merits, and if you fail to see that then that's your problem. A few weeks ago I'd never consider getting Kinect, but now that they announced some good games at TGS I'm expecting a lot more from it.

Seriously watch the video I posted. It explains everything about the technology and differences between Move and Wii.

    Yes, yes and no.

The wii does have the capability of playing games to a 1:1 accuracy. If you didn't know that then you obviously haven't played the wii motion plus games such as red steel 2 etc.

The pointer functionality on the wii would be perfect for RTS games. Most likely it would work just as well as the moves pointer since according to the Video they seem to have programmed RUSE like a bunch of retards.

No it would not be able to play killzone 3 because killzone 3 is a PS3 exclusive (seriously, ask a stupid question and you get a stupid answer). However the Wii still has some brilliant FPS's using the Wii mote and Wii motion plus such as Metroid trilogy, the conduit and red steel 2.

The differences between the Move remote and Wiimote mentioned in the video seem extremely trivial to someone who already owns a Wii. "The Move remote is a bit more comfortable in your hand" Well Woop-dee-****ing-doo.

At the end of the day the thing thats going to win over customers is the software and the only games that are out for the move at the moment are some pretty retarded casual games (Kung-fu rider LOL) and updates to already existing games.

Don't take me wrong though. I do see the potential in the Move as it is a solid piece of hardware. But at the moment with the current games I have to agree with miktar on this one. Its not worth buying it at this current time if you already have a wii.Perhaps in the near future after they have slashed the price a bit. :P

Completely missed the point, but okay. I wasn't comparing the two devices, but pointing out that it's dumb saying something like "I already have a Wii", because clearly that's no reason not to get the Move.

Let's look at it from the reverse angle: "I already own a PS3 with Move". Guess what you're missing out on, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid, Epic Mickey, Red Steel, and so on, and so on.

I agree with your last paragraph though, mainly because Heavy Rain's implementation is supposedly crappy and unimaginative, and Resident Evil 5's is also clunky.

btw, am yet to see an RTS on the Wii.

You obviously completely ignored my last 2 paragraphs when stating this. What I was trying to get across was That At this current time the Move would be a stupid purchase simply becasue of the Current software which is out. A later purchase when worthwhile games come out would make more sense since the hardware would most likely be better utilised for games and the price would go down, Something which has already happened on the wii and will most likely happen to the move but only if its given some time.

Now you completely missed the point I was trying to get across. If I said "I already have a wii" At this current time I really wouldn't be kicking myself over anything due to the software that is out. I may, however, be kicking myself if I said that in perhaps a year or so when they truly utilise the moves potential. Do you see what I'm trying to get across? Saying "I already own a PS3 with Move" is Missing out because the Wii was given time to utilise it's technology to create games such as Mario galaxy and Epic Mickey. The same can be said for the move in the near future but not at this current time.

I have no Idea why they haven't bothered to make one because the functionality is clearly there. The wii (and move) are be perfect for an RTS game, yet they seem to just not have bothered. :s

When the price was announced in dollars, I thought it was going to be too expensive fro me to justify a purchase. But R699 for the controller and camera certainly makes it tempting.

Friend brought his over yesterday for us to try and it is just a damn Wiimote. Why are people playing this thing up? It's movement works just like a normal Wiimote without motion plus. Granted we didn't really play any games that seemed to need any rapid movements. We tried out Tumbler, incredibly boring and some tv superstar type game which was just pathetic. I lent him my Resident Evil Gold edition cause I felt sorry for him buying the junk and having no decent games to try it out on.

The amount of hype that some people are giving this remote is ridiculous. It also isn't as comfortable as a wiimote and there are pretty much no games on the thing. People complained about motion controls for the wii and the games were to childlike yet these same people are hyping this thing, why?

I am staying very far away from this as I have a Wii and currently it has far better games and less effort to setup.

Lets not even get started on the Eye and how lighting actually affects this thing. I can play my Wii games with no light at all yet this thing needs it???

With the motion plus it offers 1:1, true the Wii doesn't have games like Killzone 3, but the rest of us can just plug in a mouse and keyboard if we want proper FPS movement when Killzone 3 is out.

And for the experience that it offers that the Wii does not the same can be said for the PS3, the Wii will offer an experience the PS3 does not. As far as I can see now nothing on the PS3 gives out an experience like Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Metroid Trilogy, Metroid Other M, Muramasa The Demon Blade etc.

So yes while PS3 owners get the experience of say Killzone, Wii owners get the experience of Metroid, for the experience of Street Fighter IV Wii owners get Tatsunoko VS Capcom, for the experience of Ratchet and Clank, Wii owners get Super MArio Galaxy etc etc.

You seem to be making this into another console war. What people seem to be forgetting is that the Move is just another add-on for the PS3, same as the EyeToy and 3D. It may not be better than the Wii (even though most sites say it is more accurate) but it does give an added dimension to a lot of games, combined with the HD graphics of the PS3.
