Thread: Tell us about your Rage 2010 experience

So how was everyone's rage? From the LAN to the demos to the specials to the preview vids to the motion stuff?

The LAN was great. Internet connection worked like a charm. Really had a great time. Just wish they wouldn't host a DC server as all that 80% of the kids do is end up downloading games and not playing all weekend. Couldn't even full a damn Gears server. Still, great fun all round. I forgot how much I love COD4.

For the games I tried out, Vanquish and Deadspace 2 were amazing. Enslaved won me over, despite some serious control and camer problems. AC: Brotherhood is set to make for some fantastic multiplayer assuming you play with decent opponents. I was disappointed to not see Fable 3 anywhere.

Oh, and how ****ing AVERAGE is Gran Turismo 5????? I couldn't believe just how plain it was. The guys behind Forza 3 turned out an equal or better product in less than a quarter of the time they've wasted on GT5. I don't see what the fuss is about.

Kinect failed to live up to my expectations. Apart from Dance Evolution (which kinda disappointed me too), there is not a single game I want that needs Kinect.
Move seems pretty decent, and as cliched as it is now, it really is nothing more than a Wii-too HD.

As for specials, didn't see any realy bargains apart from Mass Effect 2 on PC for R100, and I saw that at Incredible Connection earlier this week anyway, so not exclusive to rage

The lack of exhibitors was disappointing, layout of the floor was pretty crappy, and overall I was pretty underwhelmed by the exhibition.

Parking at least was a TON better than last year. Thanks for fixing that.

Well first of all... it was SCHWEET!!! I didn't get to play much as all the lil kids were all over the place ravaging all the stalls...

I really want to get the new Xbox because it looks AMAZING!!!
Quite disappointed in the lack of free stuff... and that i couldn't lan this year :(

But next year is gonna be great... had some good times with mates :)

I went today, and I preferred it to last year's expo. Best stand by far was the PS3 stand. Best screens, best games, and best looking. I was gobsmacked at God of War 3, really, it looks and plays like a dream. I enjoyed the 3D GT5 demo as well, but am I the only one that thinks GT5 is just GT4 with a slightly upped resolution and ****pit view? Felt exactly the same to me.

I didn't see Dead Space 2 anywhere, which sucked. The Xbox stand somehow didn't have any games to actually play when I was there. It had a few Kinects running, but no other games. All the consoles just said Empty Tray. I played the new Hot Pursuit, and it really didn't feel polished at all. The cars handled like **** to be honest. Granted, I think the PS3's controller is hugely inferior to the 360's, and it probably would've felt better with the 360 controller.

Halo:Reach is really, really, really, REALLY cool. I can't wait to get an Xbox! I know it must sound ridiculous, but I've been playing a lot of my PC games at 1280x720 to get used to it, and now I barely notice it. It feels very similar to Halo 3, which I have played. Embarrassingly, my gf evened my score when we played split-screen.

I'm definitely going to own an Alienware laptop one day though. Holy ****ing ****, they look awesome!

The NAG rig looks pretty cool, I just hope they have SLI'd GTX 460's and not the single card. If they do, it'll probably the worst balanced PC ever.

Overall, I thought it was a pretty cool expo. It felt a lot more professional than last year. The displays felt a lot more professional, especially the PS3 and Xbox stands. PS3 definitely the winner though, well, its stand in any case. They really prepared well. They had really nice LED Bravia TV's, which already gave them an advantage, as it made their stand stand out, whereas the Xbox stand had the girl on top doing the whole dance thing, but other than that just had a few demo-rigs that you can find at any BT Games store to actually play something on.

Always nice to see a big turn-out though. Every time I leave rAge, I fell a sense of camaraderie, a sense of belonging. It's awesome to know that there are other guys out there who love this hobby as much as I do. Would've loved to see some of the forumites, hopefully next year.

Quote of the show: Guy talking to his buddy, staring at the BT Games rack of games:"Jirre bra, check hier, hierdie ouens verkoop copy games! Mens kan mos nie dit doen nie!", not knowing that they're just for show, and the actual games are stored in the back. Heh, twat.

You didn't see Dead Space 2? It was just behind Dragon Age 2 (Near the NAG stand) both of which looks awesome. I was dissapointed in Kinect.

Did anyone enter the "Guess how many smarties are in the jar" competition? If yes what did you guess?

Rage 2010 was my first rage and it was awsome, i was also expecting more from GT5, Froza 3 is still better, (Gameplay) etc.
I loved playing COD4 and also played COD MW.
My buddy had bad luck and could only download Series en Movies , cuz his 8800 GTS Graphics broke on Friday at 14H00 :(

I had a fun time at night time at the lan. Only reason why the day time was spoiled was because of that damned guy with the microphone. talking nonstop from the start of the the day, till closing time.

Oh, and the clapping was just as annoying....

Everything else was good though. Kinect was just as pathetic as i expected, and the move was just awesome.

Was Fable III there? I searched everywhere, but couldn't see it.

I'll post my review of Rage during this week and paste the link here.

Oh, and that ****wad MC who was making a noise thru the night by shouting like a tool into his mic really was annoying.

"Up, down, up down" again and again and again. Really not cool. Dunno what reject's idea that was.

    Rage was 100% awsome.

Expo was nice so many new things to spend money on....now just to get more money for all the shineys!

LAN was good too, we had a small snag at the start with some idiot tripping our breaker but that was sorted out ASAP by the VC guys, thanx! And what was all the clapping about? Every now and then everyone burst into a round of cheering...for no apparent reason, or was i simply too tired to notice something happening?

Just a few things bothered me. Firstly the lights were never off! All night never off! I thought the LAN was going to be generally darker this time around?

Then secondly, the "enforcement" of maximum screen size. On the forums it was stated, several times that the maximum screen size would be 24", no exceptions and offenders would be turned away at the door, now a friend of mine only has a 27" so he arranged to borrow a 23" from a friend for the weekend. Now i dont have a problem with the limit on screen size, what i do have a problem with is the people with 27" screens being allowed to use those screens even tho they are over the limit. Whats the point of imposing a limit if it just gets ignored? Next year if such a limit is made again im certain everyone with a 27" (or higher) screen will just bring those anyway and say "oh i didnt know there was a limit and this is all i have" very dissapointed in this regard.

Poker Face, and Funky town....eish im sure everyone at the LAN knows these songs by heart now and might just kill someone if they have to hear it again...

All in all it was a great LAN, some small snags but hey nothing is ever perfect. Counting down the days till 1 August next year when tickets go on sale again!

LOL yeah I couldn't hear myself running OR the other guys talking over the headphones in MW2 or COD4, which is critical by the way. I hope he swallowed that damn mic. On the other hand - the guys had much more "gees" at the LAN this year. The random clapping and cheering was quite fun(ny) at times.

The internet connection was sweet and I could basically play what I wanted to play except for UT3 - didn't see any servers or anyone playing it, but it was no biggie. I didn't have time to give BFBC2 a go. Did anyone even play this?

I just quickly skimmed through The Expo, but it was a bit disappointing for me. It just looked so "empty" and more of the same stuff than last year really.

Parking was great and the check-in and check-out of the pc's went really smooth. Thanks guys.

    got lost odyssey for R99
needed a new gfx card so I got a asus GTX465 for R2249
lots of the free magic cards (promo decks)

Was it just me or was there a lot more promo girls this year? the deodorant in the bags was a nice touch. The bored guys who did the beatbox and stuff in the lan was just retarded. Just goes to show what happens when new games don't have lan support. Clapping was awesome though, I loved seeing everyone getting irritated when it started. I managed to copy 1.1tb worth of crap, I know I should be ashamed but I feel quite proud. I liked the stands, saturday was just way too packed, could barely move around in the expo. Sumo fighting was funny, especially the one guy and his wife where she ran into him at full speed and injured herself. Overall it was way more fun for me than last year.

Sidenote: Why the heck didn't the LAN organisers make an announcement before shutting off the power to the LAN mid-afternoon? Just a 5 minute warning would have been nice so that we could propperly shut down our machines.

I was sitting in the area at that time, and they made multiple announcements over the PA system during the hour before.

Heh, apologies then. I really didn't hear a thing. Maybe just too caught up in things.

Btw, I expected the lan to run until the show's close. Was it stated before hand that it would end around 3? Just curious.

    i loooooved it.
at first i thought the expo was looking a bit small, but it turned out to be best. I spent more time in the expo than in the LAN HAHAHA.

I loved all the moving games, the wii, kinect and ps3 move thing. was awesome.
all the 3d games and multiple screen games was also radical.

I donno if its just me, but they also threw out alot more prizes this year?
the best part of this was when there was alot of fun comps for some small prizes. Really got me amped :-)

at one point thre was 500tb on dc++ AWESAOME!~1@~!~@(~~~!!!!!

I thought this years one rocked!! It beats last year

BUT the two main problems for me were:

    NO FREE powerplay :(
NO rAge tshirt for the gamers :( I mean a bags quite cool, but a shirt is better :)
