This game is looking absolutely awesome. This score-attack 'Gears of Bayonetta' is looking brilliant as Famitsu gave it a 37/40 and it got a 93/100 from Play UK.

To see what you're missing heres a video of an apparent "Expert" Playing the demo:

Robots, guns, thrusters and cheesy dialogue... what more could you want.

Totally, totally getting. I wonder if I'll be able to go back to Gears once I'm done with it...

Sweet momma mercy... Expert dude's GOOD - some very slick moves thar. Now I feel really stupid for not trying the 'nade trick or shooting the transports. :<<<

There was never any doubt as to my getting this game. The second I can afford it, I'm jetsliding into my nearest games store with kneepads on and fireworks strapped to my shins, doing a triple flip while grabbing the game in mid-jump, and somersaulting to the till to pay.

Vanquish is a stylish, spectacular looking game with great gunplay and some stunning set pieces. Although the game's story and character development pale in comparison to the action, IGN had a great time with Vanquish from the in-game tutorial all the way to the ending credits. Even though Mikami's latest creation is difficult at times, players looking for a highly entertaining shooter should look no further. Vanquish will keep you on the edge of your multi-thruster booster seat.

I'll pass, R650 for a 4-6 hour game is not worth it. Was really looking forward to this but that amount of play time does not equal that amount of cash.

I dunno. I've played the demo to death and beyond, and trying to master that one sequence alone has given me several hours of enjoyment. Pure conjecture, but I reckon that at a high enough difficulty level, playing the game as a Score Attack shooter as opposed to just trekking through it once, it'll give you much more than six or seven hours of play.

Sure. You can watch along with the standby medical team.

It's games like this that make me miss my 360. I really like the idea of a more arcade like experience where you chase high scores. Mastering a system has a real value of its own.

I don't always need 20+ hours of compelling story telling, sometimes I just want to shoot dudes in the face, for points.

This game looks like it could give older people hart attacks with its insane speed the adrenaline could be hopped up to a whole new level.
Crossing my fingers that it will include an Arcade mode.

After seeing that, I've changed my perspective about this game. I might consider getting it second hand one day but for now I agree with Darkprince somewhat seeing as I don't do the replay thing. I'll save my dosh for GT5 still or even perhaps Castlevania.

Not good value for money, no matter how good the 4-6 hours you get out of it is.

The thing about score-attack games, is you're not going to just play through it once - you're not playing it for the narrative, you're playing it for the game mechanics. The challenge a score-attack game presents is entirely up to the player's tastes, and it's length is determined by the player.

Most score-attack games are, by nature, not very long (around 6 hours at the most). It's part of the convention. Making a 20 hour score-attack game would be, well... no matter how much you love sex, after the 6th day of grinding your fleshy bodies against each other, you're gonna hate it.

So yeah, if you're buying it for a 20-hour epic narrative, you're gonna be dissapointed. Sorry, but that's your fault then for not knowing what type of game it is :P

If this were so true then Platinum Games wouldn't of needed to respond to the accusations that this game was so short.

Platinum Games comments on Vanquish length

Platinum Games? JP Kellams has posted a response to the GameInformer review of Vanquish stating that the game can be beaten in four hours
In their review of Vanquish, GameInformer stated that the game could be completed in just four hours. Platinum Games? JP Kellams wasn?t too pleased with that particular sentiment. He posted the following message on Twitter in response to the GameInformer review:

GameInformer: "Don't be surprised if you finish your first playthrough in four hours." Really? Because it would surprise the hell out of us.

    He later added the following:

Even in Casual Auto it doesn't make sense, nor is it indicative of how long a normal gamer's playthough would take.

Vanquish will be released on October 19th for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
The game is classified as a 3rd person shooter not a score attack game. No matter what type of game it is R650 for a 4-6hour campaign is not money well spent. no matter how good the game is. I loved the demo, played it a few times. Would I pay for the demo? Uh no.

The game is not classified as a 3rd person shooter - it contains elements of 3rd person shooting. Yes, many idiot reviewers and websites and press people will list that as it's main and only genre, when it's pretty stupid - the game is a score-attack 3rd person shooter.

YOU don't want a score-attack game. So for you, R650 for a 4-6 hour (I have not finished it, I don't know if it really does take four to six hours, or if GameInformer was just being stupid - they ARE considered the dumbest videogame magazine, y'know). For all I know, Platinum Games is right, and Vanquish does NOT take four to six hours, GameInformer probably didn't even finish it, who knows).

    REGARDLESS.

If you don't like score-attack games, four to six hours won't suit you, unless you're intending to play it again and again and again, to improve your score. Yoshi's Island was only about 6 hours, but was worth every successive 6-hour playthrough after the initial one.

I don't see why it's a demerit on Vanquish, really, that its main campaign is that short. It's not meant to be a carton of milk, with only one use.

I mean, you're free not to like it, and not to pay for it. That's voting with your wallet, and that's what I do too.

But while Vanquish may be mislabelled by the press as 3rd person shooter, giving people the wrong idea that it's something like Gears of War or something - that doesn't mean what I'm saying isn't true.

Yeah, if you're only going to play one time it is pretty poor value. Although 6 hours is about the same as CoD 4, I don't recall many people complaining about that.

Well, In bayonetta theres an Item for beating the game in 3 hours. That game is only about 4-5 hours long on a normal playthrough.

Do you know how much time I have clocked on bayonetta... 36 Hours!!!

I have spent 36 ****ing hours on a game that can be beaten in 3. That shows the kind of games that shinj Mikami makes. High replayability due to the sheer amount of fun that are packed into these games.

Hopefully this game changes on the higher difficulty levels like how bayonnetta did. Playing on hard and infinite climax mode in bayonneta were like playing completely new games.

Anywho heres another trailer for the game:

There is a huge difference between this and Bayonetta. Bayonetta had loads to unlock, 3 playable characters, tons of weapons and item's that completely changed the game when equipped, tons of combo's to learn and extra's to purchase. With multiple difficulties.

The only thing this seems to have is upgrading some weapons and getting a better score. No other incentive. No other playable characters that change the games content, no other Item's that change the way you play.

And another thing I can guarantee you Bayonetta didn't take you 3 hours to complete on your first play through. And yes I have my platinum trophy for Bayonetta, the only game I have done so on PS3 cause it just had that much variety and features to warrant me to keep playing and do you know what? There was still about another 40 hours worth in the game after the platinum was achieved as there was still loads of things to unlock, plus it is just a fantastic game.

This is nothing like Bayonetta so it's pointless even bringing it up.

The games a shooter first and foremost with a main story of 6 hours in length priced at R650, anyone who is ok with that is a fool and it's people liek that who are probably the cause to us not getting any sort of discount on this game. Yes thats right, the game has already had huge price cuts overseas and it's still yet to be released. That too me says more than anythign else.

Nobody said Vanquish is exactly like Bayonetta - only that, like Bayonetta, it is a score-attack game before anything else. Bayonetta took me 4 hours on first playthrough. But I spent another 50 on it after that.

It's not pointless bringing up Bayonetta, because it makes a point. How many people bitched that Bayonetta was nothing like God of War? Lots. How many people bitch Vanquish is nothing like Gears of War? Lots.

It's a case of mistaken identity, both games have it, both games are score-attack games.

Vanquish is not, first an foremost, a shooter - any more than Bayonetta is an action-adventure.

5 Things To Remember When Playing Vanquish

Not everyone seems to be getting the most out of Vanquish, so before you buy it this week here’s some things to consider.

Thinking about picking up Vanquish this weekend? Well, there are a few things we would ask you to keep in mind when you do. You see some people don’t seem to be getting the most out of Shinji Mikami’s latest game and we want you to get the best experience possible.

    1. Vanquish Is Not A Cover Shooter – Yes, you can use cover and at times you will need to, but you shouldn’t be playing Vanquish like Gears Of War or even Uncharted. Cover is just a place to recharge, not a place to fight from. You need to get up close and personal, making much fuller use of the amazing abilities the ARS suit offers. More on those shortly.

    2. You’re Not Supposed To Take It Seriously – On the scale of gaming seriousness there is Heavy Rain on one end and Space Invaders on the other. Vanquish may have a story, but it’s very much leaning toward the retro shooter rather than Quantic Dream’s adult drama. You’re just supposed to have fun shooting things. Nothing more.

    3. It’s Meant To Be Replayed – Like classic games of combo building and score chasing Vanquish is intended to be replayed. It may only be about 6 hours long, but that’s a good length for such intense gameplay. Your second playthrough will likely be more enjoyable too as you are more familiar with the controls and your abilities.

    4. You Can Slide On Your Knees And Shoot Things! – We keep coming back to this particular feature of Vanquish, but that’s only because it epitomises the irreverence and excitement inherent to Vanquish’s gameplay. It’s ridiculous and unnecessary, but it’s fun. Sometimes realism can just go to hell.

    5. Seriously… On Your Knees – Yeah, we couldn’t think of a 5th thing to remember, but it’s worth repeating that final point. Vanquish is about doing ridiculous things, fighting ridiculous enemies in a ridiculous world. If you’re not going to embrace that then there’s no point in playing the game. Have fun or die; it’s basically that simple.
