Thread: Share Your Art 2011 Edition (56k Modems will Revolt)

From real life, fast 5 min ink sketch of my cat, Gizmo, having a little nap.

From photo of my old dog, Manic, unfortunately this picture is really badly photographed and I gave the original away as a gift.

What is important though, is that drawing from life gets you working quick and focused on form. Building up a composition before your subject moves is a frantic ordeal from life drawing and only adds to the feel of the piece. With drawing from photo's I find I get too caught up in the perfection of the piece that the final seems lacking.

Yes, I've posted this before (in the Share Your Art 2011 Edition (56k Modems will Revolt), no less). But I haven't received any feedback about it... :/

2005 Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos tribute. Was 15 at the time.

Its a decent attempt here but you definitely need to use reference, again preferably from life, in order to remove the flatness from your work. I can see that you are at least thinking about shading but because you don't draw often, we'll get back to this, you are too scared of making mistakes, which removes any life from your work.

Positive aspects here are things like your awareness around foreshortening the fingers as they curl up, which shows there is some thought and a bit of care in your approach to drawing. Thinking about where you are going to place lines and why is a very important aspect of drawing and once you start thinking you start critically looking at your own work. Never be scared to change a line you have just put own and also don't think you have to keep the lines as single entities.

You clearly show an interest in drawing yet the last drawing you did was when you were 15? Gosh man, that's unacceptable!

Hehe sorry, once I got a PC all this kindof faded away. I used to carry a FlipFile with me, filled with clean paper so that I can just doodle wherever I am, but that hobby died away at university. I drew a weapons as well (guns, mostly) and one or two of them was from real-life stuff, so that may show (IDK). I was part of these drawing and painting classes and stuff when I was younger, but it later on felt "pushed" so I completely withdrew. I guess I have to start loving it again. My dad is also an epic artist, he drew things from life that I find hard to believe. I'll upload some stuff once I get my camera back again, my sister has it ATM for she is going into labour this afternoon (yay I can't wait to become an uncle!). But thanks for the feedback, I really do appreciate it more than you know. I used to love this...

Strange. I searched 'Art' and got no results, even though there clearly is a thread. Since people are posting here, I guess we could keep this one alive.

Or we could integrate the two? I think mods can do this...? It's sad to keep this one and the old one apart, both contains some good stuff.

Okay, threads merged. I had to go and find the other thread in Off-Topic, but I think since most art-related threads tend to come to Lifestyle, this should be the proper place for them now and in future.

I've also updated the description of Lifestyle to be incredibly long and hopefully more useful.

Been practicing feet and heads lately,I came across one of my sketches I started back in '05 (round about the time I decided drawing wasn't for me and focused on programming):

Sorry for the triple post....Am I the only one posting things now?
Come on people I want to see what you've been up to.

The second hand you posted (first one in the second post) looks really good.
Also, the gun in the third post looks a bit like a giant flash drive. But nonetheless, a very cool drawing.

Do GIMP works count as art?

I rather like your 5 minute fast sketch, the effect is quite hypnotic :)

ANYTHING COUNTS! As long as it's arty...though I need to do something original after this, too much fan-art.

Praise be to the Mods , thank you very much GeometriX. How do I go about inserting an image properly next time?

You weren't linking to an actual image file, like a JPG, PNG or GIF, but rather to the image's page on your deviantART account. The [IMG] tag only works with the full and direct image URL.

Finished the MK Poster, I was working on. Did some more tweaks and extended Raiden's lightning to the top. So the final version looks like this:

Not 100% happy with it. But I'm calling it done.

@01DT!m3r: I like those hand sketches.

@EndKreator: Really like the colors you used on the Twilighter image. That's a pretty neat logo, too.

^ That lightning was the first thing I noticed, even before I read you finished it. It looks awesome, really good job!

    ****ing stunning dude.
You remind me of a old friend.
I wonder what ever happened to that dude.
