Thread: Dubstep

  1. #1

    Default Dubstep

So, as the title suggests, this thread is about anything dubstep-related.

Recommendations, local talent seeking to gain a few fans, promos for local shows - anything. :D

I will start by linking an awesome mix I found a few days ago. It's playable through SoundCloud from the site, but there is also a Download button there somewhere.

Demon0ne's "Merry Christmas Mix" (137mb, 60 minutes long)

    Thoughts?

NOTE: if you talk about a song/ artist, please link that song/ something from the artist in your post - makes finding your referrals a much less tedious task.

Busy listening to the Merry mix. Some awesome stuff in there, so definitely gonna try and hunt down some more good dubstep. Can't believe there's an entire genre I've never heard before.

It's been more or less underground, for a while. But the thing is, it is a relatively new movement (mid-2000's), so not too many people know about it. Lately (2009-present) it's been getting more and more mainstream.

But YEAH - good music, good times. :D

Oh, something a little more down-tempo and mellow (compared to the Demon0ne mix)

    =]

Nah, I think I prefer it harder and darker to be honest. It's kinda got a stripped down tunnel trance thing going on that I'm really digging.

EDIT: (scratch that, the mellow stuff is also rad in its own way)

hahaha, the Demon0ne mix is really dirty, that's the kind of dubstep I like the most; but I also have a soft spot for slower, female-vox oriented stuff, like that Blue Foundation song. But yeah, the dirty stuff is def better overall.

Haha, I got one person into awesome music today, go me. ^_^

I love some of the stuff from dz.
headhunter is pretty cool too as is Hate 2 love you from Marchmellow, awesome track with a kickass break.

My favorite is still the My moon my dub remix done by dz. Music for your earthingies

It's the track one of my friends played for me that got me into Dubstep, I'm still more of a DNB / electronic guy though, Noisia and Glitch mob being my favorite artists, but I absolutely love chilling to some Dub every now and then.

I've only heard this one Dead Zed remix, gonna look into some more stuffs when I have the cap to dl it if I like it. :P

DnB is the tits: Noisia, TeeBee, Calyx, Omni Trio and pretty much anyone that was ever signed to Moving Shadow Records. UK DnB is the best, hands down.

    DnB hi5!

I don't know why everyone raves (no pun intended) about this kind of music?

It's just the same beat played over and over again(there is nothing else to it).

I'm so glad I moved away from this type of music and adopted Rock/Metal.

Oh well...if it floats your boat.

What a completely pointless post... lol :P

I dunno, I generally listen to mixes of this kind of music, so 1-2 hour sessions; you put it on, smoke a little and just chill. Don't have to change tracks and stuff, and it just flows. It's not music that is intended to be listened to in the same was as rock or metal or hardcore, it's a completely different vibe. Much like trance, I guess - just put it on and do something, so you have some sound in the background. Also, dubstep is awesome to game to, imo (Bad Company 2, oooh yeah).

Also, more for those that are keen: Dubstep.fm

It's an internet radio station, they play dubstep 24/7, and they sometimes have live sessions (mostly by JVIZ, on Fridays). On the left side, if you scroll down, there's an Archives tab, you can download a CRAPLOAD of mixes that have already aired, or, if you hear a live session you enjoyed, they make it available for download after a few days of it being on air for the first time. So, if you have a fast-like line and uncapped - here is your one-stop shop to having good music playing, all the time. :D

Just a request for future posters: if you mention songs/ artists, please link Youtube/ SoundCloud to everything you mention, makes sampling stuff you're talking about much easier. :D

Busy going through 2gb of unsorted dubstep tracks, what a mission... -___-

Asking a big favour here, but can you tell me which of the artists you link to are South African ones?

My boyfriend adores dubstep, I know area where it was first, supposedly, created (Croydon) and I am interested to see how SA has evolved the genre further.

I don't mind dubstep once and a while, pretty good listening music as Shadowrend mentioned. I find Rock and Metal (and all one hundred thousand sub-genres of them) a bit too distracting when just wanting to chill out.

You, sir/ lady, are a smart cookie. :D

Anyway, locally, the only two peoples I know that make dubstep are Jam Jar (don't have any of their stuff, I'm not even sure if they have anything online - just know of them through a friend of mine) and Wobblestein (a good friend of mine, bassist for a local metal band, trying his hand at making dubstep). You can poke around online or on Facebook to see if there are any uploads, because I am currently capped so I can't link anything even if I did find it.

I know for a fact that Wobblestein has a mix, it's called "Mix 1", but it's very rough, practically demo material. I have it, because he gave it to me - but I don't know if he's uploaded it to anywhere yet.

    Hope this helps. :P

I don't really listen to this type of music often, but when I do, I listen to Borgore. He's a dubstep producer from Isreal, and he really has potential. He's also the drummer for some metal band, which I found kind of odd lol.

His music just seems enjoyable, it's really dirty/rough, but it just hits me in the right spot. For example, here is one of his songs, not exactly the best one, and kind of strange, but the beat later in the song is really strong - Love.

*BTW, not exactly the most SFW thing out there*

I think you need to look out of your box a little bit and realise that she has a medical condition, similar to epilepsy; that's why she sometimes goes into these weird spasms.

You might just be sarcastic, as I just woke up and can't tell wtf, so maybe I'm the silly one - but yeah.

    Wait, what? :/
