Breaking News: Battlefield 3 comparation PC vs. Playstation 3 side by side video released:
Breaking News: PC players will need EA Origins for Battlefield 3. Well it's not really breaking news, its been announced a while back and that is why I won't get the PC version.
For those who care, here's a large image of how to get the steam overlay going in BF3 and disable origin: http://i.imgur.com/RL3gp.png
Looking forward to the beta this weekend.
Can the public download the open beta yet?
edit: I retract my question. Google finally worked. 29th

Anybody who pre-ordered through Origin get their early access beta keys yet? Sounds like they promoted that to South Africans, but aren't planning on giving any to us.
Got mine this morning, busy downloading.
0_0Dice community manager Daniel Matros has dropped an internet bombshell by stating that a PC built around the Battlefield 3 recommended system requirements, which were released earlier this week, will only be able to run the game at Medium settings.
The revelation came via a Twitter-based question and answer session earlier today, when Matros stated that ‘recommended is usually medium’.
When asked if a single Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 1.5GB would have enough power to run the game at Ultra settings, Matros went on to say that if you were aiming for that level of detail from the Frostbite 2 engine, then you’ll probably need two GeForce GTX 580s in SLI configuration.
No mention was made of the resolutions Matros had in mind when he was making the suggestions, but it’s clear that Battlefield 3 will indeed prove challenging for today's hardware. The news is sure to have hardware manufacturers rubbing their hands with glee too, as many people are likely to need an upgrade if they want to play the game at anything approaching the highest settings.

Hmm one problem though. I don't have an i7 or a HTX 580 and I won't get one either. But I am curious how it will look with everything turned to maximum.
Those specs seem a bit overblown. If you head over to the BF3 forums you will see a couple of threads where different rigs are posted along with settings and average/min/max fps. On the beta version it seems that a person running an i5 2500 with 4GB RAM and an AMD 6950 will get an average of 50fps with a min of 40fps with all settings on ultra and resolution set to 1920x1080 with 2x AA. So i expect performance to improve with the release of the retail version.
Hi, I tried to get on the forum earlier but it was unavailable, I am just working with trusted information I got on guru.
This was taken off pcgameshardware.com
I am just ****ed I did not get an early code like I should have, apparently there is a problem at EA.

Nice! I will be able to run it on a decent setting with my 285GTX. So after a few minutes of searching BF3 Beta videos, I'm starting to get annoyed. Everywhere I look, people are complaining about the graphics, especially on consoles. Then when I go look at the link, it shows a freaking tree that they somehow found on the map that happen to have low res textures on it. OMFG a low res tree! Oh no! The other one was a massive article about a few sandbags that seemed to be textured badly on the Xbox. Really? I mean, really?
Seriously, Battlefield is about the gameplay. It's sad to see that these days most of the gaming community just care about graphics. Not the story or gameplay. Just how good it looks and then they spend a bajilion moola just to be able to say, "I can run it on ultra OMFG resolution."
Even though I can play it on a decent setting, I'm getting this on Xbox. I don't want to go through Origin and all it's **** of activating it, even if I can go through that loop hole of using Steam. Most of my friends are getting it on Xbox as well. I actually had a massive argument with a buddy earlier because all he could talk about is how OMGFF!!!1 Battlefield 3 will look on his PC and he spent a fortune on it.
I laugh at people who just go for graphics and spend so much just to have that extra resolution. Really.
