Default The Diablo3 Thread of Heavens and Trembling

Two decades have passed since the demonic lords, Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal, set out across the world of Sanctuary on a vicious rampage, twisting humanity to their unholy will. Yet for those who battled the Prime Evils, the memory fades slowly.

When Deckard Cain returns to the ruins of Tristram Cathedral seeking clues to defeat new stirrings of evil, a fiery harbinger of doom falls from the heavens, striking the very ground where Diablo once entered the world. This fire from the sky reawakens ancient evils and calls the heroes of Sanctuary to defend the mortal world against the rising powers of the Burning Hells once again...

    Platform: PC, Mac
    Publisher: Activision-Blizzard
    Developer: Blizzard Entertainment
    Release date: TBA
    Official website: Diablo 3
Official Tagline: And the Heavens shall Tremble

    Plot

The game takes place in Sanctuary, the dark fantasy world of the Diablo series. This world was saved twenty years prior by a handful of unnamed heroes in Diablo II. Warriors that survived the onslaught of the armies of the Burning Hells have gone mad from their ordeals and it is up to a new generation of heroes to face the forces of evil threatening the world of Sanctuary. Players will have the opportunity to explore familiar settings such as Tristram.

The only confirmed NPCs are Deckard Cain, who has appeared in both of the previous games, and his stepdaughter, a new character that accompanies the hero in quests from time to time. Cain's journal on the official site brings the player up to speed on the events of the first two games. Diablo's world map is composed primarily of two main continents with several small islands in the Northwest region.

    Classes

    • The Witch Doctor is a new character reminiscent of the Diablo II Necromancer, but with skills more traditionally associated with voodoo culture. The Witch Doctor has the ability to summon monsters, cast curses, harvest souls, and hurl poisons and explosives at his enemies.
    • The Barbarians will have a variety of revamped skills at their disposal based on the use of their incredible physical prowess. The Barbarian is able to Whirlwind through crowds, cleave through swarms, leap across crags, and crush opponents upon landing.
    • The Wizard is a version of the Sorceress from Diablo II or the Sorcerer from Diablo. The Wizard's abilities range from shooting lightning, fire and ice at their enemies to slowing time and teleporting around enemies and through walls.
    • The Monk is a melee attacker, using martial arts to cripple foes, resist damage, deflect projectiles, attack with blinding speed, and land explosive killing blows. It combines the melee elements of Diablo II's Assassin class with the "holy warrior" role of the Paladin. Blizzard has stated that the Monk is not related in any way to the Monk class from the Sierra Entertainment-made Diablo: Hellfire expansion.
    • The Demon Hunter combines elements of Diablo II's Amazon and Assassin classes. Demon Hunters use crossbows as their main weapon and also throw small bombs at enemies. Some of their skills have been revealed and among them are arrow skills such as Chain Arrow.

    Multiplayer

What can you tell us about Battle.net?

Diablo III will benefit from Battle.net upgrades that will provide some exciting new features for players. Cooperative online play remains a primary focus, with multiple enhancements being planned to make connecting with your friends easier and cooperative play even more fun. We?ll have more details on all these aspects as well as other exciting new features at a later date.

How will PvP be implemented in Diablo III?

While Diablo III is designed primarily for cooperative multiplayer, we are building in support for competitive player-vs.-player gameplay as well. We?re focusing on team-based PvP in an arena setting, and we are being careful to avoid PvP features that can easily lead to griefing, such as the ability to go hostile at will. We also plan to integrate Battle.net?s matchmaking system, a progression-based ranking system, and more.

This is probably a year or two early but with the upcoming beta and the fact that Blizzard will show **** at E3 I thought we could have a unified thread for all things Diablo. This way, every different morsel of info gets to go here for easy reading.

    So, stay awhile and listen.

I really can't wait for this. Will be pulling out my Diablo 2 copy and killing some demons while I wait for 3. So glad it runs on Mac OS.

OMFG!!! Like, I totally forgot about Diablo 3! Can't believe it! I'm totally ashamed! Seriously though, Blizzard (who I praise) are taking their sweet ass time with this game. I think it's gonna be huge and perfect.

Woah, nostalgia! Yet cheesy at the same time...lol.

I'm looking forward to the Witch Doctor and Wizard classes. Tired of the Barbarian. The Demon Hunter also looks promising, like a glorified Assassin with a bow instead of those blade thingies (sorry, forgot the name) ;p

Edit: The witch doctor looks like a blend between the druid and the necromancer now that I think about it. Probably he'll be the first character that I play with.

What about Path of Exlie. I haven't heard anything about that now for a while. Isn't it also suspose to be free or something. Will be cool to play while I wait for Diablo3.

I've been trying desperately to avoid all media on this game so that I can appreciate it completely when it releases, but in the last couple of weeks I've broken down. I've been scouring the 'Net in a desperate search for information, videos, lists of stuff that people have scoured from videos, you name it.

Cannot wait for the beta. Q3 *holds thumbs*.

Wonder what the selection criteria for beta participation will be. Might have to call in some favours as I'll likely make my purchase decision based on the beta.

Most likely similar to StarCraft II: a few waves of closed beta applicants like Blizzcon attendees and industry insiders, then slowly roll out wave after wave of open beta applicants who only need to sign up and wait. Getting in on that first bunch will be nice, but I'm sure there'll still be a month or two of beta time even if you're in the second group.

I hope the peg leg person is in it.
I'll most likely only play this game Co-Op, will let me savor the game for longer.

Can't wait. Looking forward to playing with the new classes; the Monk in particular. This game has some huge shoes to fill. I hope they can pull it off.

Wirt? The guy who's leg you use to get to the cow level? He's kinda dead, well, except if we get to see his reanimated version in Diablo III . . .

    Diablo 3 on console? What!

I know its not official or anything, but whats your guys take on this? Good or bad idea?

I personally never got to play Torchlight on console, I only got to play the PC version. So I don't exactly know how a hack and slash works on a console. Even though I have been almost completely converted to the console side, I still don't think this is a good idea. Just like I don't agree with putting Crysis 2 on console (even though I finished it 3 times on console) or putting a game like Gears of War on PC. Platforms need their exclusives to keep things spiced up. On top of that, games are usually a lot more balanced for its platform if they are exclusive.

In regards to Diablo 3 in general, I am also trying to keep my nose out of any news. I hate knowing that it wont be out anytime soon, just makes reading information about it painful.

Old news is old, not sure why Atomic Gamer or G4 are even reporting this. From a job posting made by Blizzard in December:

“We’re exploring a Diablo-related concept for consoles and are currently looking to fill a few senior console-related positions on the Diablo III team. As we’ve said in the past, with proper care the gameplay could suit the console platform, and we’re interested in seeing what talent out there might be interested in such a project. Please note that this is not an announcement of a console title. We are first and foremost developing Diablo III for Windows and Mac PCs and don’t intend to allow any possibility of a console interpretation to delay or affect the release of the game.”

Anyway, I think it's a great idea. It's the kind of game that would work very well on consoles without much tweaking to the gameplay mechanics. Controls would need plenty of attention (and targetting in particular), as well as the visuals, but the game would essentially be the same.

Well yes, like millions of others I too have been awaiting this game like a 2 year old kid getting ice cream for the first time.
I have joined the facebook group of Diablo 3 but the only thing they really post is art work. Its always fun reading the **** people say but unfortunately Blizzard never really post anything decent that makes me go oooh nice.
Anyways hoping now there will be more videos on the NAG dvd's of Diablo 3 now that Geo has succumbed to temptation. Here is hoping...

Surely buying a mid-spec PC would be a better idea.

Would be great to get it on console, but I'd prefer it on PC actually. More people will have it on pc so MP will be much bigger for it. Well, I think so... :)

Wow, can't believe how few people are responding to this thread, guess it's coz we don't know for sure when it's coming out.

The anticipation is killing me! I need this game already! and NOW! BLIZZARD...make it happen!

Anyway, Drone, where are you? I wanna chat about D3!

    ^Im right here. :)

I bought a copy of D2 with LOD yesterday as I lost my other one(at least its cheap). Running it on my mac for the first time, had some problems but the patch sorted it out.

Anyway, anyone playing on battlenet, I would love to get some practise in before D3 gets released.

    PM me please.
