Effort pays off - think about that. Rome wasn't built in a day, you know! :P

Anyway, I think it's worth slugging through DS (if you want to call it something really bad, let's call it "slugging") just for the ending.

    Also, Scythe.

The little Scythe you get to play with. Death's Scythe. Most awesome weapon in the game. Period. Awesome combo's as well.

This is on my shopping list for August. Looks really promising. I thought the original game was fairly good but it lacked polish...Darksiders II seems to have rectified that issue.

So my buddy says he saw this in Musica for PC today. What's up with that?

You sure it wasn't one of those pre-order boxes? I've seen those in a couple retail stores now.

Funny story (only partially related), I was at my local mall a few weeks ago when a lady walked into CNA and demanded they phone their head office and request stock of Halo 4 because she was told by Musica that they were out of stock and she wanted it for her son before his birthday. My guess is she saw the pre-order box for it at another gaming store in the mall and assumed it was available.

In any case, I just saw Darksiders 2 listed as on sale for R300 on a local game-trade website. Wasn't sure if legit or trolling. Ignored, either way.

I won't be buying this when it releases, it seems. Budget cuts ate me, and now I'm stuck with my 30-or-so-long backlog to play through. Later on though, this will DEFINITELY be bought, and I can't wait for that day. You guys' reviews will just help me decide if I want the PC or PS3 version of it.

Definitely going the melee speck (harbinger) also extra awesome features.
Today I would like to officially announce two additions within Darksiders II that will round off our new announcements. Let me introduce you to our Arena Survival Mode along with our New Game+ functionality.
The game features a combat arena which will provide the ultimate challenge for Darksiders II players. After completing five of the mode’s 100 unique waves, gamers will be given the option of taking a prize or continuing for another five waves for a chance at even better items. However, if they fall in combat they will leave with nothing. Only the most skilled players will have what it takes to best all 100 waves and claim the greatest prizes.
n addition to this mode, Darksiders II will feature a New Game+ mode which will allow players to carry over their Death for a new game retaining all of their skills and equipment.
Jim Huntley, Vice President of Global Brand Marketing commented: “The Arena Challenge Mode and the New Game+ function are the perfect way to continue building the ultimate Death even after finishing the main game. This upgraded and customized character can then be carried over into the upcoming DLC campaign missions.

@Shaderow AHHH THE H-SCROLL IT BURNS US!

I just started playing Darksiders 1 today. So far so good, I haven't played a good hack and slash for a while.

Protip: Keep at it. No matter if you feel annoyed with the game, just keep at it. It's worth the ending.

    NIGHTMARE MODE!
As we continue to get closer to the launch of Darksiders II, we would like to reveal a new addition that will be included within Darksiders II, Today we would like to introduce the functionality of Nightmare Mode.

For those of you wanting additional challenge, Darksiders II will feature a Hardcore Difficulty which will unlock once you finish the main game. In this mode players have one life and if they lose it via a combat death they lose all saves associated with that playthrough and will have to start from scratch. This is a truly apocalyptic challenge for only the most skilled horsemen!

Keep in mind again that your save file is only reset if you die in combat, so things like falling deaths or getting killed by lava are not things that will reset your gameplay within Nightmare mode.
Basically Inferno mode from Diablo 3. Will you be sadist enough to attempt this?

    Review Round-Up:

90 - Destructoid: With a unique protagonist, killer art style, savvy level design, and ferocious combat, there's little left for an action fan to want, while the role-playing elements have been enhanced to such a degree that the overall experience feels deeper and more compelling than before. If this game is not a success, then truly the world doesn't know what's good for it.

90 - GamesRadar: Improves upon its predecessor in almost every way. The combat is deep and satisfying, the exploration and loot elements are incredibly addictive, and the dungeons provide a near perfect amount of challenge and consistency to keep you playing to the end. If you're looking for an expansive adventure with an interesting story, massive world and robust combat, Death has come for you.

85 - GameTrailers: Death flirts with mediocrity, but he's careful never to linger there too long. Darksiders II has more than a few rough edges, but they never fully run away with the experience. With a meaty quest, and hours upon hours of optional, quality stuff to do and discover, you simply can't beat Death, so you might as well join him.

85 - GameSpot: Don't let the scattered execution snafus be of great concern: Darksiders II is remarkably well put together, particularly in light of its impressive scope. Bigger doesn't mean better, of course, but this isn't a "more of the same, just bigger" kind of sequel.

80 - The Escapist: Despite its quirks, Darksiders II really delivers on the breadth of its content, making for a sweeping experience that fans of multiple genres should be happy to explore if willing to look past a couple of hiccups along the way.

75 - IGN: The thing is, if you're going to so blatantly derive material from such well-known properties, you better nail it. While Darksiders II provides a lengthy and entertaining experience for action adventure fans to sink their teeth into, in the end it never comes close to reaching the heights of the various franchises it so freely borrows from.

THQ obviously didn't buy out enough ad space on IGN's website. >_>

I'm hoping Dishonored sucks, just so I can spend my money on this. I loved the first Darksiders and this seems like an improvement in just about every aspect of the game.

The reviewer from IGN doesn't even know what shes talking about, she says the game gets repetitive? then scores games like pokemon 8.5, " in the end it never comes close to reaching the heights of the various franchises it so freely borrows from" is she ****ing kidding me? i mean seriously? they pay these people to review games?

Just finished viewing The Art of Darksiders book. It's absolutely phenomenal! It has tons of great artwork. Probably the most comprehensive artbook I've seen, so far. Just looking at some of the designs, makes me want to play this game. Luckily, judging from the reviews, the actual gameplay seems to hold up as well. So yeah, I'll be picking this up once I'm done with the first game.

Let the journey of War and Death begin...
