I actually cared least for the villain in the new movie. I think he was done half well actually, though I don't know how he became insane from just the one injection. Somewhere there was a little hole I'm not happy with. Anyway, the most problematic for me was the tension or awkwardness between Spidey and Gwen. It was, well, awkward. I made awkward turtle a few times in the cinema, to great effect.

Managed to catch this last night. After the city demolishing shenanigans of The Avengers, it was a pleasant change to watch a more "intimate" super hero film.

I can understand where a lot of the critics are coming from, many complaining that the only reason this film was okayed was so that Sony can keep the rights to the Spiderman films. But I've got to say, other than the plot, the cast and crew did an adequate job with what they were given.

I really liked Garfield's Spiderman. It was much closer to the Spiderman I'm most familiar with (that being the animated TV series). The chemistry between him and Gwen (Stone) was great. So too with Uncle Ben. The villain was a bit "meh" and the parents/Connors/Oscorp/Lizard story arc was pretty weak. However, the bits that did work, worked really well.

I thought the action sequences were done really well. The fighting scenes were well choreographed, and with the exception of one short bit in the middle of the film, Spiderman's movement was exquisite. (I also liked the bit of Peter Parkour before he developed his web slingers.)

Overall, I'd say Raimi's first Spiderman was the better rounded film. However, I'm having a tough time deciding which one of the two I enjoyed more.
