    Seventeen minutes of gameplay.

The introduction of one mechanic in particular is rather baffling, and I hope they don't rely too much on the Hollywood approach to the intelligence levels of the average policeman, but it's one part of the game played in one particular style, so I'm still willing to give them the benefit of doubt.

This is what we got to see at the private gameplay showing at rAge. I enjoyed it, though nothing particularly amazing. I AM a fan of the franchise, so I'm eagerly keeping track of it, though :D

Any explanation given as to the eagle vision? Just curious as to the thought process behind it; why go with something that requires a fair bit of explanation within the context of the story, when it could just as easily have been implemented by means of gear (such as heat vision goggles)that would perform the same function?

Because heat vision is simply too Hollywood. As is [spoiler]x-ray vision[/vision]. And night vision goggles are too Delta Force and CoD. Eagle vision combines perfectly with the game, the stealth and leathality of Ezio. It's also much cooler to be able to spot useable objects from distance if you're not using heat vision. :P

Yeah, I get that for Hitman in particular they need to differentiate between other stealth based titles, and I don't mind the introduction of new mechanics and I'll even suspend some of my disbelief if needed, but isn't part of the magic of Hitman not knowing what's around the next corner?

I don't want to sound like a grouch and grumble grumble grumble because my beloved franchise is changing, that's not the case at all. I'm all for a different approach and a few risks here and there. But that shouldn't mean we're not allowed to question certain design decisions, surely?

****, sorry, I somehow misread this thread! Thought we were talking about the new Assassin's Creed here (notice the Ezio mentioning?). Together with the "eagle vision" mentioning I got excited and thought you were questioning the use of it in the new AC.

I hang my head in shame.

EDIT: But yes, I agree. It's one of the things I enjoyed from Codename 47. You had to actually think about hot only how you're going to kill your target, but also how you're going to hide the body and escape the area. I don't think it would be as effective if you add mods and perks, neither if you make the game a straight forward FPS.

I did notice the reference, but I thought you were citing is as an example of where it actually works! I'm wondering how ironic it is that we can have a discussion about two different games and yet still make sense.....

Yeah, it's not like Hitman is anywhere near AC anyhow. I was just scared that this was going to escalate into another spoiler-tag abuse.

This game looks like it is going to have epic set pieces. I could feel the tension just watching the gameplay. When he walks into that foyer with all the cops...brilliant stuff

That video put me in the mood for some Hitman, so I played a bit of Blood Money tonight. That mechanic isn't too far removed from the original "all enemies are marked on your map" mechanic (which is also a bit of stretch if you think about it). In fact, I might prefer the new mechanic, as it is easier to detect enemies on a different level from you.

That's actually a pretty awesome trailer - though I can see why there was such an uproar.

Gonna have to agree with Penny Arcade's Gabe here, too many people overly eager to White Knight.

Plus, you know, controversy equated to fantastic press.

Link to that, perhaps? Sounds like an interesting read, but I can't find it.

Also, I'm about as excited for this game as I was for Syndicate. And I wasn't excited for Syndicate.

Personally, my experience with Max Payne has gotten me back into enjoying 3rd person shooters from my young'n days.

The whole nun thing makes me think back to Hitman: Silent Assassin when you worked out of a church. It is surprising that games are going to religious things [Hitman nuns, Prototype 2 priest, Assassins Creed Catholics, you can even hear church music on a BF3 multiplayer map]

The sweetest bit of gameplay you will ever see.

I can vouch for this (though I'm not sure if it will mean all that much).
It seems as though those worrying about a step in the wrong direction for the franchise needn't worry, as the game appears to retain it's original formula.

I'm playing through Blood Money for my first time at the moment, and I am loving it despite the awkward mechanics and dated graphics.

Absolution is definitely my most anticipated game of the year.

Edit: Hell, if you feel that you can look past the negative technical aspects of a 2006 Xbox 360 game, and want a unique gaming experience; play Blood Money, honestly!
