    Default Thor: The Dark World

Marvel Studios announced today that Patty Jenkins will direct "Thor 2," which will be released in theaters on Friday, November 15, 2013. Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman will return to star in the film along with Tom Hiddleston. Marvel Studios? Kevin Feige will produce the sequel to this summer?s blockbuster "Thor," which has grossed over $448 million worldwide to date.

Patty Jenkins previously directed "Monster" starring Charlize Theron, who won an Academy Award for her performance in the film. Jenkins, who received an Emmy nomination for directing the pilot of AMC?s acclaimed series "The Killing," has also directed episodes of "Entourage" and "Arrested Development." Most recently, she directed ?Pearl,? one of the five short films that comprise Lifetime?s original movie "Five."

In addition to "Thor 2," Marvel Studios is currently scheduled to release "Marvel's The Avengers" on May 4, 2012, and "Iron Man 3" which is slated for release on May 3, 2013.

Just a bummer that it was pushed back to November, something to do with the Lone Ranger movie... But 2013 is a long wait anyway

Really interesting choice of director. I really, really enjoyed Thor so I'll definitely be watching the second one.

Character-wise, I thought Thor was brilliant, Kavanagh really nailed the personalities behind everyone. But I didn't enjoy his pacing of the film, which I felt was uneven and underwhelming near the climax of the film.

Plus, I'm going to be kind of sad to see a less arrogant Thor, I kinda liked him that way, instead of being all humble and mature.

Look like 'Monster' director Patty Jenkins will no longer be helming Thor 2. Her exit had to do with creative differences, but at least they parted on good terms:

"I have had a great time working at Marvel. We parted on very good terms, and I look forward to working with them again. I have a long love of superhero films and I'd been saying over and over again to my agents at CAA that I'd like to do one. The Marvel guys are so brave in terms of who they choose overall, and I don't think they had any pause about me being a woman." - Patty Jenkins

Hopefully they'll find a replacement soon so as to not mess up their schedule, though I am little bummed that she didn't get to do it. Could've been very interesting to see her take on the character.

Alan Taylor Will Direct Thor 2

Given the sense of Norse (via alien Asgard) pomp and circumstance Kenneth Branagh and Marvel brought to Thor, we’re frankly surprised the quest to find a director for the sequel hasn’t turned into some sort of legendry competition, with applicants forced to remove a sword from a stone in a myth-mixing show of power. But no, it’s actually just been the usual old set of Hollywood swings and roundabouts, with Alan Taylor now the chosen one.

Who he? Well, it would seem that Marvel is committed to finding someone with Game Of Thrones experience as Taylor is credited with some of the show’s best episodes, including the first season finale. He’s also worked on other shows, including The Sopranos, Lost, Deadwood and The West Wing.

And Taylor’s not even the first name from Thrones to be linked to the Thor Job – fellow show director Brian Kirk was rumoured back when Branagh decided not to return for the second outing. According to the Heat Vision blog, Taylor won the chance over another Thrones man, Daniel Minahan.

But most recently, it appeared that Monster director Patty Jenkins would be guiding the hero’s future, before either ditching the gig over “creative differences” or being shown the door thanks to Marvel’s concerns about the need to hit the pre-ordained release date of 15 November 2013.

So while Taylor is sitting in the chair right now, we’ll wait and see if he’s still there when the likes of Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins and Natalie Portman return to the set and the cameras roll…

I wonder how everything will pan out, after the Avengers, it will be nice to see how Marvel handles each individual hero's story and how it will materialize for Avengers 2

'Thor 2' Eyes 'Chuck' Star Zachary Levi

Marvel Studios is targeting Zachary Levi to join the cast of Thor 2. He would replace Josh Dallas in the film.

Dallas played Fandral, one of the Warriors Three in Thor, but is bowing out of the sequel to the 2011 hit movie due to his commitments to the ABC show Once Upon a Time.
Levi’s involvement may blessed by the gods, however. He was in talks to originally play the role in 2010 but had to bow out when his cult NBC show Chuck got a last-minute reprieve from cancellation and an episode extension.
Levi’s talks are in at an early stage -- negotiations have not yet begun, according to sources -- but an offer is imminent.
Thor 2 is gearing up fast for a July start. Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor is set to hop into the director’s chair. Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Idris Elba and Anthony Hopkins are returning, and Mads Mikkelsen is in negotiations to play the villain.
    Marvel had no comment.

Mads Mikkelsen in Negotiations to Play Villain in 'Thor 2'

Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen is in negotiations to play a villain in Marvel Studios’ Thor 2.

Mikkelsen, known to American audiences for playing bad guys in such movies as Casino Royale and Clash of the Titans, will join Tom Hiddleston as the antagonists in the sequel to the 2011 hit. Hiddleston is reprising his role of Loki, Norse god of mischief.

Much of the cast of the first film is returning, including Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, as well as the actors who play the Warriors Three.

Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones) is directing.

Marvel is plowing into the sequels for its marquee heroes, not resting on the laurels of its gargantuan global success of The Avengers. Iron Man 3 began shooting Wednesday in North Carolina. Sequels for Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor are in the midst of securing actors and directors.

These movies are still so far off but everybody's going bananas about every little detail. I love that the superhero genre is running this high right now, I just hope they don't screw it up with crappy sequels. It'll either be that or we'll all just burn out on them at one point.

    Another villain

Variety is reporting that actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje will be taking on two villain roles, sort of, for the upcoming Marvel Studios film Thor: The Dark World. He will be portraying Algrim the Strong and Kurse.

Algrim first appeared in Thor #347 and was one of the most powerful of the dark elves. He is given the task of killing Thor by Malekith the Accursed (set to be played by Christopher Eccleston). He is betrayed by Malekith who tries to kill Thor by allowing both the god of thunder and Algrim to fall to their deaths. While both survived, Algrim developed amnesia from the event and is transformed into the much more powerful being Kurse.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has appeared on screen in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, The Bourne Identity, and played Mr. Eko on "Lost."

Thor: The Dark World reunites Chris Hemsworth with Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, and Natalie Portman as the love interest Jane Foster. Alan Taylor ("Game of Thrones") is stepping behind the camera for its November 8, 2013 release date.

Some set photos showing the Marauders

Fans got an eyeful of Thor: The Dark World last week with set photos and video depicting Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Sif (Jaimie Alexander) battling among what resembled old bearded humans rocking Naruto headbands and some elf/gremlin/orc-looking fellows, but it wasn't quite clear why these groups were clashing or why the God of Thunder was seemingly caught in the middle. This nature of the film's plot will likely remain a mystery until closer to its planned November 8 release date in 2013, but the latest images from the same UK filming location do give fans a better look at the creatures now being called "Marauders" from the film, who (along with their human allies/foes) can be seen brandishing previously unseen rifle-like weapons. See what you make of the latest set photos from Thor: The Dark World after the jump.
