Thread: Games for Windows Live total F up!!!!

  1. #1

Default Games for Windows Live total F up!!!!

    Hi

PC gamers please make sure to create a new GFWL live account and make the region US or UK "if" you account is region is SA

    Why?

People that buy "new" games(As of October 2011) that use GFWL will not be able to download DLC for it if their account's region is SA.

    Here are some examples:

    DR2 OTR

    SA Region: http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-ZA/Pr...don&noSplash=1

    US Region: http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Pr...don&noSplash=1

    Batman AC

    SA Region: http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-ZA/Pr...don&noSplash=1

    UK Region: http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-GB/Pr...don&noSplash=1

Create a new US or UK GFWL account now before you register any new games(Since you cannot use the same CD key on different accounts)

I hate MS and Games For Sh*tedows Live, always have and always will!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only two games I'm using GFWL for is Bioshock 2 and Dawn of War 2 and I think that it's really good. Keep in mind that I log in using my Xbox Live account so that my achievements link up. I have had no trouble with it so far. At least GFWL is better than EA's Origin. although I have not used Origin nor am I planning on it.

Edit: My Xbox account it registered to the UK and that is why I can download the DLC. I know that the SA Xbox Live marketplace is (or it was) empty when it started, not sure how it is now.

Hasn't it been like this for a while? I assumed it happened when we could migrate our XBL tags.

EA's Origin is perfection compared to GFWL. Microsoft have publicly acknowledged that GFWL is unstable and broken. I have been forced to delete and recreate my user account, downloads of patches fail most of the time. Microsoft have already stated they will end GFWL with the release of Windows 8. I only hope that we will be able to port our current games over to the app they launch in its place.

XD How can you make that statement when you have not even used it yet? and the answer is no it is not.

Before the new GFSL DLC download system( -October 2011) SA accounts could download the same DLC as US and UK accounts, sadly SA accounts or the SA region will not be able to download DLC for any game released October 2011 -... and yes that includes the Robin and Nightwing DLC for Batman AC.

@soulmantle GFSL did more damage to PC gaming then any good.

Only if you were stupid enough to migrate to an SA account. Mine is still tied to my US account, so no worries for me.
Besides, chievos on PC ftw :)

I have been playing games using GFWL since GTAIV, and apart of an initial hiccup (I had to manually download and install the client update), I have never had any issues. It looks smart, functions well and chievos on the PC FTW.

Secondly, the issue at hand has hardly got anything to do with the GFWL service itself, but rather the fact that Microsoft decided to implement a retarded region control policy for their DLC. I'm guessing it may be related to local ratings.

It is. I spoke to a person who works with all the things that gets put on Live and the biggest (and in most cases) hiccup is with our FPB. They are either too slow or just don't know what they are doing. Every time something gets submitted to be put on Live, they have to hand in a 12 page explanation of the product and it costs them about R1000. The FPB then either gives it the go ahead (yeah, whatever) or loses it or just ignores it. Again, it boils down to our country that ****s up and not Microsoft.

But I'm not a huge fan of GFWL anyway. Just like it for the Chievos.

Luckily the only game I have on GFWL is Fable 3. Game's impression is the same as the impression I received from GFWL though, so it's a prefect match.

Not stupid at all if you want to make a credit card payment.

Awful system, the worst by far, also no way to ban cheaters on it or a "push button to speak" option...just kak noise.

    @echo

Then why did it only start in October 2011 and why is the older DLC still available?
I also see that you can actually game with the SA account but not the DLC.
    Steam seems to be immune.

I have to agree with you there, achievements on PC FTW! Ok so I have not tried Origin but I've seen a friend install BF3 with Origin first hand and we struggled for 4 hours to get the damn thing to work and even then, it was ****.

Also from what I read on the internet, Origin is by far worse. At least GFWL does not delete your games you know??....

I reckon the reason MS are ending GFSL is because every publisher and developer have abandoned it (Capcom and WB are all thats left...for now) since they also see it as a burning pile of dog poo.

    @-Bouncer-

Why on earth did it take you 4 hours to install BF3? Takes the same amount of time to install on Origin as it does on Steam...for me anyway.

Origin does not delete your games, last I heard is it deleted your account if it is not used within 2 years.
BTW one of my GFWL accounts was deleted after around 1 year of dormancy.

Mine is a US account so I don't think that I'll have a problem. Still though it's pretty stupid that it's only SA accounts that are affected.

I never got the points I was promised for Migrating, now this happens. I was also ****ed when I found I couldn't download the "Game Room" after migration. :(

I'm pretty sure it makes DoW2 crash to, thy all crash except DoW2: Retribution witch is the only one that does not use GFWL.

Also besides all the problems and faults of GFSL, the very worst of all... You have to pay "MONEY" to change your name/gamertag...ridiculous. MS=SCUM

You're really not helping your cause with messages like "MS=SCUM". I've honestly never had a single problem with GFWL when playing Batman: Arkham Asylum or even the first 2 Dawn of War 2 games. If you'd read every post in this thread and not just the ones you want to, you'd see it isn't Microsoft's fault you can't buy the DLC any more.

I'm probably coming off a bit strong again but from my viewpoint, this is nothing more than a rage thread.

While it may be a rage thread, and your point is completely valid, you have to remember that the people have issues with GFWL. Just as some have issues with Ubisoft's DRM system (which I rate at the same quality of service as Steam, by the way, I love it), and some have issues with Steam, and some have issues with ****ty GFC card drivers.

The thing to remember though is that MS themselves has confirmed that their product is buggy, and it has given me so much grief that I will rather skip out on a game than have to go through GFWL again, and I'm not joking. I see a game I'd LOVE to play with the GFWL tag on it and I don't even touch it. Don't even look it's way again, except maybe to gape at the pretty pictures on the box.

GFWL is an incredibly bad product for a lot of users. Just as some people claim that Renault is a ****ty manufacturer (t-up for them, I've heard of too many of them breaking before the 1000km mark) and some say they've had only Renaults without a single problem (and I do believe them, they can't ALL be ****).

Pointless thread is pointless, yes, but raging a little helps you to get over that fact that you just spent R350 on a game you can't properly install, register or play because GFWL won't work with you. ;)

EDIT: Oh yeah, and this is pretty useless to remark. I'm pretty sure you run Windows OS (GFWL, duh), you've used a Microsoft branded keyboard and mouse at some point (I've been using a Microsoft keyboard for almost 6 years now, and it's still working perfectly (although it's damn dirty)), and you've enjoyed some form of entertainment or product MS has given you in your life. You can keep up your charade, but then you have to act on it and buy yourself a Mac. Go ahead, try and play a game on your Mac. Good luck.

Not a rage thread, just a warning to those who read to create a UK account because one you enter the CD-Key into your SA account your stuck with it

Pretty useless assumption but to answer your questions:

    Microsoft branded keyboard: No
    Microsoft branded mouse: No
    MS Games: No
Windows OS: Yes, but if Linux or Apple made a decent OS for PC's with full game and driver support I would switch in a heartbeat.

    @CyniKill

Actually it is MS's fault, I never have this problem with downloading DLC off Steam or even Origin.
So "if" the problem is as Echo has said then MS are just lazy(Again their fault).

And yes MS=Scum, I have other personal reasons.
