Sodium Overload 2012

GetHype and LAGza are bringing you the Sodium Overload 2012 tournament, sponsored by AnimeWorx and Comet Computing.

There isn’t a better way to kick off the New Year than having our very own Fighting Game Tournament. Get ready to see the salt flowing as we kick off the year with a bang.

Sodium Overload will be taking place on Saturday the 28th of January 2012. There will be 2 tournaments held during the day, Tekken 6 and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. At the end of the day we will be hosting an Exhibition match for the new King of Fighters XIII, this will be an open event to anyone who wants to participate and will be a good way to see where the players interests are and possible bring the game into future events.

Entrance fee will be R30, this will give you entrance to play both games. The player is not required to play both games but we would like to encourage that all players take part in both events.

We will be starting the day off with registrations from 9:30am, regestrations will close at 11am. We will kick the day off with Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 starting from about 11:30am. This will go on till Grand Finals where we will then switch over to Tekken. We will then run both of the Grand Finals at the end of the day. The Winners and Losers Finals as well as Grand Finals of each tournament will be recorded and uploaded to the Get Hype youtube channel for future viewing.

Both of these tournaments will be double elimination best out of 3 rounds format. Tekken games will be 3 rounds per match. Finals and Grand finals will both be best out of 5.

Prizes will be as follows:

Tekken 1st place will get a PS3 Madcatz SE Arcade stick sponsored by Comet Computing www.cometcomputing.co.za , a R900 AWX gift voucher sponsored by www.awx.co.za and custom arcade stick artwork of your choice.

Tekken 2nd place will get a R600 AWX voucher sponsored by www.awx.co.za

Tekken 3rd place will receive a bag of salt :)

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 1st place will get a PS3 Madcatz SE Arcade stick sponsored by Comet Computing

Rules, Registrations and location will be posted up on www.gethype.co.za and on www.lagza.co.za by next week and we will be giving regular updates throughout on both the forums and website.

Quick update:

Just remember a tuck shop is going to be setup on the day so you shouldn't need to leave for lunch or anything. Everything should be available to you, drinks, snacks, biltong etc

We will also be doing some interviews on the day, get feedback from people, see what they think and what they'd like to see in the future.

Also thanks to Jag he will be bringing his recording equipment, so we should have 2 setups doing full recording all day on those. We will make sure to have the finals and Grand finals played on those so all matches are recorded.

These will be put up on our youtube channel and will be distributed on DVD as well. DVD's will come separately for each game, so one Tekken disc and one Marvel disc. This will be made available as soon as we can but matches should be up on the youtube channel within the week.

Remember to let us know if you'd live one or both of the DVD's. A reminder will be made again on the day :)

Awesome awesome event, big thanks to everyone that came through. Unfortunately a couple people got lost and were unable to attend so next time we will look at putting up some GPS co-ordinates as the feedback on the event and the location was amazing. Everyone really seemed to love the venue and we got good feedback on that. We started a little bit later than intended to allow for a little extra time for people to find the place so we stated at 12pm. Thankfully though we managed to get through each tournament in about 2 hours thanks to some great organizing and co-operation by the players, so by 4:30 we had plenty time for guys to stay after and have some casual matches in Tekken, UMvC3 and KOFXIII. It's nice to have guys staying after the tournament to chat and mess around.

The turn out was awesome, it was great to see a venue full of players and guys hungry for some good game. We had an equal amount of players for both Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Tekken 6 capping in at 28 players each. We ran a double elimination bracket and there were a lot of upsets on the day. Guys played well and the practice paid off.

We also got some great interviews of the players and what their thoughts were about the tournament, venue, prizes and future things they would like to see. This will be going up on our youtube channel very soon. Also the Finals and Grand Finals of each tournament will be uploaded very soon for everyone to have a look at.

Finally I'd like to really give a huge thanks to Hotshot for flying all the way up from Cape Town to attend our little tournament.

Awesome. It's great to see so many people support this event. Looking forward to seeing the videos of the matches. This Draeka fellow, seems to be very good. I recall him winning a previous tournament. I need to check out this LAGza website, as well.
