Ew, no. I'll give it to them that their sound has become more focused - they at least know what they're going for now, but, geez... that's awful. And that's coming from someone who worshipped these guys when they first appeared.
I hate them now, they really turned into pansies...
Hybrid Theory was awesome...
They stopped being emo and started singing about things that actually matttered, and that makes them... pansies?
Edit: holy crap, I didn't even know about the new album! June can't come soon enough!

I just don't like bands that go too mainstream. Because then the record companies get a big say in what their sound should be like. All I'm saying is that I enjoyed their older sound more. And please don't tell me they matured, there are plenty of bands out there who mature and don't lose their sound.
For me music should be about passion and not money.
Maybe pansies was a bit harsh, so I'll rephrase. They went soft.
And this is all my opinion, I'm not trying to start an argument.
I've heard this stance before and I don't want to turn this into a Linkin Park thread but more mainstream? If they sold out wouldn't their music sound the same as Hybrid Theory (Which sold 10 million units)? Why would they change something that worked? And wouldn't changing their sound and experimenting more be more of a risk? As far as I understand they did completely the opposite.
But I may be biased because I love all their albums. Except the JayZ one.
Wait, let me get this straight... their first album, Hybrid Theory, is the second highest selling album of this century. Their second album, Meteora, which sounded similar to Hybrid, was similarly successful.
So, by changing their sound completely, so that their new music is indistinguishable from their earlier work... they sold out? Whereas other bands recycle the same sound over and over without losing a fraction of their sales, like Nickleback.
Linkin Park make the music they want, not what the record companies want. Here's Shinoda's blog, read it. He states many times that if anything sounded like their earlier stuff, they hated it.
I'm not saying you should like their new stuff, that's obviously your opinion. But saying they're doing it for the money? They took a huge risk with their new music, knowingly alienating half of their fanbase, for the purpose of artistic expression. Surely that's something to be respected?
Edit: beaten by echo.
They used to have a Nu-Metal sound. Lots of screaming and rapping with hard riffs. And Nu-Metal was a big thing back then. When this whole mainstream rock thing took over they conveniently changed their sound. To sell albums. Don't get me wrong, I understand that they do it for a living and have to push for the income. And they are good musicians, I just don't like the whole toned down sound.
Why are you guys getting so serious. It is only my opinion. I know for a fact that you won't like most of the music I listen to, and it doesn't bother me at all. But that is what I like about music, it's so diverse. And it would suck if all of us listened to the same stuff(although sometimes with radio that is the case).
Everyone I know that listened to Linking Park back in the day almost has the same opinion as me, but all of us do like the harder side of metal. :D
Drone, the thing is, I could agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong:P
I think pArkEr will agree with me when I say that we are not getting serious or mad about someone differing from us. It's just that when someone says something like sold out or mainstream without it being even remotely true it just kinda ****es me off. Not really, but I like debating.
No problem man, just didn't want any violence. And I apologize again for calling them pansies. I sometimes say things without thinking. :P
What is your definition of selling out?
OMG YES!!!!!!!!! MMMMMMM!!!!! UGHHHHHHH YESSSSSS!!! I CAN FEEL IT RIGHT NOW!!!!! IN MY EARS!!!!! MMMMMMMM!!!
But on a serious note, this is the ****. Like, the best of the old and the new. Like they had a baby and that babies name was Burn it down.
They did not sell out. Mike aint got time for that kind of ****. He gets his **** done and done well.

Eh, I was never a huge Linkin Park/Blink 182 fan. In fact, it took some time for them to grow on me because at the time I considered them to be very commercial and cheesy. So to say they have now "sold out" is kinda funny to me... I thought they always were sell outs. My opinion on music has changed a lot since then though; I'm a lot more open minded and easy going these days.
Anyway, that said, I don't think this single sounds very different from their old stuff at all. And it's a pretty good track. Still not crazy about them though.
