Thread: Awesome "unknown" Movies!

    Default Awesome "unknown" Movies!

There are many movies out there that are amazing, but that aren't "mainstream" or are relatively unknown. This morning I stumbled across a whole mess of trailers of movies I've never even heard of but really want to see now.

This is a general "unknown" movie thread. Post info/trailers of unknown, indie or underappreciated/cult-classic films and let's expand our film libraries a bit :D

    Some trailers:

Yeah, I've seen some of them in the movies thread as well, but they get swamped by the mainstream movies quite quickly. So here's where they can be free! :D

I've actually just gotten a hold of those. Planning on watching them this weekend!

Ringu 2 currently stands as the scariest movie I've watched. Rec looks pretty fantastic, though.

A few of the lesser well knowns that I really enjoyed (ie, allow me to indulge in my east asia fan watch ;p)

The Revenge trilogy by Park Chan-Wook. United in theme, not content, nor narrative.

    Sympathy for Mr Vengeance

Possibly the hardest to watch, the most gruelling movie.

    Oldboy

Certainly the most famous, and arguably the best of the three by far, won several awards at the Cannes Film Festival. If you look to see any of these three, I highly recommend this one.

    Sympathy for Lady Vengeance

The only one that is part comedy, but also has some of the darkest parts. Possibly the slowest of the three.

    The Ringu series.

    Ringu

A very interesting experience, seeing the rather notable differences. Not actually that frightening, but required watching for the sequel.

    Ringu 2

As stated, scariest movie I've seen. A very, very different take as to where the American adoption took the franchise.

    Grave of the Fireflies

Yeah, it's anime, but holy **** if it isn't a monster of a film. THE most depressing movie I have ever seen, and by god if it isn't amazing for it. Heavy watching, but worth it.

I've got the Vengeance trilogy but haven't gotten around to watching them yet. To be honest I'm not a fan of (most) Eastern movies but a friend of mine lent them to me and is insisting I watch them for some reason. I have no TV reception anymore so am borrowing DVD's from wherever I can, hence my catching up on (older) series'.

I am so dead keen to see God bless America, there are days when I wake up, turn on the news in the morning, and just feel like going on the rampage to remove the stupid and the bull**** from this world.

For those looking for something different, I highly recommend Interstate 60: Episodes from the road, starring the beautiful Amy Smart, and the brilliance of Gary Oldman and Christopher Lloyd. Very cool and underrated movie that will make you look at things a little differently.

Personally that one film that was mentioned, "The Troll Hunter" reminded me of those saucy knaves - Miktar and Brazed. *chuckles*

I don't know if this film is on Ster Kinekor or Nu Metro's release schedule but if you guys have an US xbox live account or their 'iPod killer' Zune (it may also be available on other VOD services) and like really over-the-top twisted action/horror movies I really recommend watching "Hobo With A Shotgun".

The film is based on the Grindhouse trailer with the same name.

I would've put the un-rated trailer here but since there are probably kiddies reading this and I don't want to get penalized for something that the kids shouldn't be watching anyway.

    The Plot:

A vigilante homeless man (Played by Rutger Hauer) pulls into a new city and finds himself trapped in urban chaos, a city where crime rules and where the city's crime boss reigns. Seeing an urban landscape filled with armed robbers, corrupt cops, abused prostitutes and even a pedophile Santa, the Hobo goes about bringing justice to the city the best way he knows how - with a 20-gauge shotgun. Mayhem ensues when he tries to make things better for the future generation.

I watched it last night. It's a beautiful grindhouse film but not at all for the faint-hearted. Rutger Hauer, is as always brilliant. Watch it if you can.

Got to see Troll-Hunter over the weekend, I highly recommend it. One of the better "film your own adventure" style of movies in my opinion. Also, don't go near the English dubs - the actors sound lifeless. It's much better to watch in Norwegian with subtitles if you don't mind a bit of reading :)

Probably my most anticipated "unknown" movie of the year. Can't wait for this.

BTW Mods, would you kindly move this here thread to Lifestyle? It should be with the other one, please?
