I've had my eye on this for a while, I'd desperately like to get my hands on one for interests sake.

RS Components will be selling/manufacturing them. They're getting an initial stock in the next week or two. You can register interest here. They're allocating one per person on a first come first serve. So they're going to go through the list of interested parties when they get them. As are as I know, this is the $35 one they're selling initially. $25 one will only become available at a later stage.

At R260, I don't think one can go wrong, I mean it's only slightly more expensive than the cheapest Arduino. I've registered and really hope I get one to play around with it.

Or wait for this (a bit more expensive but still worth it):

The main difference is,I think, the price .What makes the raspberry pi so attractive is it's price.AFAIK no other product on the market offers that kind of hardware for that price range.

Raspberry Pi now has a proper OS, Raspbian 1.0

"We are pleased to announce the release of our first SD card image based on the Raspbian distribution," RPF said via its official blog. "This is the result of an enormous amount of hard work by Alex and Dom over the past couple of months, and replaces the existing Debian squeeze image as our recommended install."

"If you're still using Debian squeeze, you will benefit from many tweaks and performance improvements to the firmware, kernel, and applications. If you're already on Debian wheezy (beta), the performance boost won't be as big but will still be 'very worthwhile.' It's the first official image to take full advantage of Raspberry Pi’s floating point hardware for, amongst other things, much faster web browsing."

How did you guys go by ordering this?
On the rs-online site, if you click personal use, it redirects you to the international site, but clicking business use, the page isn't redirected and the value is in Rands, and is some what cheaper too

Does buying it under "business" require anything specific for requirements?

Keen to get one of these, that and an Arduino, both are awesome looking devices. Atleast the arduino is easy to get hold of

@Legion: That site doesn't have a price for the PI, do they order it for you on demand or something?

Just sent off a price request, I'll buy it today at that price, as long as it has ethernet

This thing looks quite interesting, I have no idea what I'm going to do with it but I want to buy it anyway.

What is the cheapest/fastest place to buy from?

    @ KalMaverick

Preferably get it from a local supplier. I'm currently importing mine directly through the UK suppliers and I've now got a customs clearance fee of R255.

    Ouch!

That's the sort of thing I want to avoid if possible.

Mantech said they do not know when the local suppliers will have stock but guestimate around R300 per unit.
