Update on SFxT tournament at SO2

The 'tournament' patch has been released but even though this has added an easier way to do gems it still seems tedious and time consuming so gems will still be banned.

    Registration is up for SO2:

    http://www.gethype.co.za/so2

Please pass the link around to any friends or people you know who are coming that are not on the forums. There will be something up for grabs for early registrations, otherwise there still isn't an issue if you just register on the day.

    Update on SO2:

Event will take place in the AWX store in Brightwater Commons.

We will be starting in store registration at 2pm for those who did not or can't register online, we will then start the first tournament at 3pm, think we will start with SFxT first but still have not decided. We will be running 4 stations at a time and a 5th one will be used for casual play on the side.

The first tournament will run until either the store closes or we get to finals, if it runs smoothly I will move on to SoulCaliburV.

Once the store closes at 5pm, participants can go and get food and drinks, we will then resume the tournament from about 5:30pm and then run it as usual. We will end off the tournament with the 5v5 CPT vs JHB match.

We have opened online registrations as well to try and get it running smoothly and everyone registering online gets a registration ID for easy input into the brackets.

Any other questions can be posted and I'll try answer whatever needs to be answered.

    Final update for SO2:

Pretty much everything has been finalized so here is the run down:

Tournament will be starting at 3pm, for those that have not registered online, registration will start at 2pm on the day.

The venue is at the AWX store in Brightwater Commons, Randburg.

SoulCalibur V will be played first starting at 3pm, will move on to SFxT and then to Tekken 6. Prizes will be handed out at the end of the event. All brackets will be up live on the site for those that are unable to make it.

The store will close at 5pm and reopen at 5:30pm, this will give guys time to go to get some food and drinks.

After that the tournament will run until we finish. We are going to do some commentary for some of the videos so for those that are interested let me know and we will work out time slots to get people on the mics.

AWX has also managed to get the coffee shop to stay open a bit later so anyone that is there can go next door to grab some coffee, hot chocolate or ice-cream etc

    See you all there.

Ok guys we have made a final decision for our prize as an online registration, thanks to everyone that registered online, will help us move a lot faster with regards to getting brackets up. For those that have not yet registered you will still have some time.

We were originally going to put the first 20 registrations into a random draw but we have decided to extend this to all online registrations to give everyone a chance at winning. So anyone who has registered online will go into a random draw which will be done in front of the crowd on the day of the tournament. The winner will receive a hamper we have put together which includes:

A custom arcade stick, full sanwa parts and custom artwork.

A limited edition of the Ryu Street Fighter Jo Chen Power Foil Cover C Variant

And a couple other little goodies :)

So thanks to everyone who has or is going to register you will all be put into this draw on Saturday.

Not to sound like one of "those" guys but, A guy won while using Hwoarang and only kicking most of the time? yeah... :/

That "guy" that won is the best Tekken play in South Africa and is recognized around the world in the Tekken scene. He has played in tournaments around the world including tournaments in Japan and America such as SBO and the biggest tournament of them all, Evolution held in Las Vegas once a year.

Hwoarang's moveset is mainly kicks and everything he used he knew would keep him safe and minimize the chance of any counter-attack or open him up for any punishment by the opponent. That's how Tekken is played, knowing what moves to use to keep you safe and knowing what options your opponent has and what mixups you can get them in, what's even more insane is that this isn't even his main character, not even by a long shot.

This same player, HotShot, has won the last 4 Maingaming Tekken tournaments in JHB and CPT and has won Tekken at SO1 and SO2. If you'd like to see him winning by using punches then look up his Steve videos on youtube :)

No no I didn't mean to say the guy is bad or anything I can clearly see in the video both these guys are pros, I just hate Hwoarang. Cheap kicking bastard. He's like Elena from SF3 Third Strike, he might as well have tiny t-rex arms because he rarely uses them. Hell I'll even go as far out to say that Eddy and Christy uses their arms more.

It's finally up, after 18 hours and 1 failed upload attempt the Tekken 6 5vs5 CPT vs JHB Exhibition match is up on our YouTube Channel.

It's what everyone has been waiting for, a first for GetHype and a first for the SA FGC scene, not only were we able to get some of the best guys to participate in the match but we got commentary up as well with a commentator video feed. Since this was a first for us there were unfortunately a few technical issues we had during commentary, for about 6 minutes we lose commentary feed during the video, apart from that it was pretty smooth sailing and we are looking to improve upon this with future events, hopefully to a point where we will be able to do commentary for all of our events.

There was a ton of hype during this match, HS Dojo going up against the JHB team, hope you all enjoy and am sure it was worth the wait.
