Thread: Official Game of Thrones Series and Book Thread of Fire, Ice, and CURSE YOU MARTIN

  1. #1

Default Official Game of Thrones Series and Book Thread of Fire, Ice, and CURSE YOU MARTIN

Right, official chatter about the A Game of Thrones tv series, Season 2 in particular as it unwraps.

Those of you who have read anything past the first book are strongly advised against posting.
The second season doesn't air in exact order that the book was written - so if you've not seen the series, be aware that you may be posting spoilers even if you understand the events you post about to have already happened.

Naturally, this thread will wax and wane as a new episode comes out, then the long wait until the next one, but it will at least keep talk about it out of the Series thread.

    So, have at it!

Series has been over for a while, and the thread would sink by preventing people talking about the book in conjunction. SO, until a new season comes about, this thread is now about the book, as much as the series.

So, MASSIVE RED WARNING SIGNS in your imagination as this thread will really start vomiting out spoilers, hopefully in spoiler tags.

Awesome, can not wait for S2. So glad that we got it quicker than S1.

    The King of the North!

Damnit, the first episode left me salivating for more! Downloading the second episode as I type, I did watch the first episode twice on Mnet HD and plan to do the same with the second. Going to Makro with my dad this weekend and I'm "accidentally" going to slip the BR of the first season into the trolley.

Peter Dinklage is an excellent actor and my favorite on the show, but it is like choosing your favorite dog, as soon as you think about it you feel crap. I love them all, and I'm rooting for Robb more than my favorite rugby team!

As I am on the fourth book I shall not be posting as often as I'd like but I think this just needs to be said one more time. They got the casting in this series spot on. It really is astounding.

I also find it quite alarming that when I watched the scene with the baby bashing and I didn't even bat an eyelid. Yet, as it turns out, many people found it to be incredibly disturbing. Where is that argument about violence in literature again?

It's nothing more than a societal mindset. What do you think most people feel worse about, an adult dog being run over or a little puppy being run over?

Exactly. For instance, if little in-bred wanna-be king dies a horrible and painful death I'll probably fist-bump with my best buddy and then have a Jägermeister.

I love this series. I saw the series in a book store the other day (minus the first book) and I almost bought it, but I didn't want to spoil the rest of the show. Kinda retarded, but... yeah.

Honestly, it has only added to my enjoyment.

I am still just as giddy for the next episode even though I have an idea of what might transpire within it. Also the story expands so much that half of the stuff that is happening now has been long forgotten.

LOS ANGELES, April 10, 2012 – HBO has renewed GAME OF THRONES for a third season, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming.

“Series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss raised our expectations for the second season – and then surpassed them,” said Lombardo. “We are thrilled by all the viewer and media support we’ve received for the series, and can’t wait to see what Dan and David have in store for next season.......”

    So no surprises there.

Adored the first ep, despite the changes to Littlefinger, and the different intro to Wrenly's maester. I like how they managed to show both Cersei's ruthlessness and vulnerability in a single episode. Loved that glimpse of 'arry too, they got her just right I think.

Oh, and Jamie gets more awesome by the scene.

I just wish that little brat would put his crown on straight. That forward-slanted crown thing he's got going there annoys me to no end.

And the end of this week's episode is the precise reason why I hate watching series on a week-to-week basis. Now I'm going to be busy dying until I can find out what happens next week. :O

Also, Salador Sann. Awesome character played by a remarkably good actor. Also, I'm pretty sure that's a South African accent he's sporting.

It's worth watching in Blu Ray, trust me. I completed my Blu Ray watching of the first season last night, and I can honestly say that it's absolutely amazing. A lot more detail = a lot more enjoyment. Don't "slip it in", tell your dad that this is the best series he'll watch in his life, and that he'll be labeled a traitor should he not comply. Or something. Alternatively, buy it on TAKEALOT. It's not that expensive.

I'm pretty sure the North seceded from the Seven Kingdoms and proclaimed Robb their King, making him King of the North. I may be spewing BS though. It's just what I deducted from the whole "*spit on the floor* at their kingship" comments and claiming that Robb be the only King they'll bend the knee for.

My take though - I'll give it later. I got S02E01 on my phone, lunchtime can't come soon enough!

You can't possibly be saying you're going to watch it on your phone?

And yes, I'm also pretty sure it's 'King of the North'.

Well, I can't wait for too long anymore. And the Galaxy S has pretty awesome graphics. And the earphones are awesome. Emulate 5.1 and it's really a superb viewing experience. It's a regular occurrence for me to watch series on my phone, I don't mind at all. I'll probably rewatch it tonight at home again, but until then the phone does it! :D

I see many people mentioning they have watched Ep1 on Mnet already. According to my TV the first episode is only showing on Friday 13th?

    Am I missing something here?

It aired on Sunday night after the movie but will show again Friday, together with episode 2. I think I'll watch it again on Friday.

Nice, at least I didn't have to sit through the painful wait for Episode 2. I get to see them in succession! Bonus! But then there is the painful wait for Episode 3... Noooo!

    Comments on episode 2?

I thought they handled Theon's return really well. The dialogue, the twist; one of the better moments thus far. But anyone marginally disappointed with episode 2 like I was? Still a great episode, but I'm wondering if it's episodes like this that are negatively affected by having read the books. Not because they're not canonical, but because I know what's coming, and it's not just Winter.

I was mildly disappointed with ep2, mostly because nothing significant has happened yet, due to the fact that they still have to set the scene for the rest of the season by introducing new characters and minor storylines. It's somewhat unavoidable for the producers, but I still can't wait for this season to start picking up Steam again.
