Thread: EA stealing designs from Warhammer for F2P C&C title.

Normally I wouldn't consider something like this a big deal, but this is just way too blatantly copied. It's basically carbon copies.

I'll put money on a few people being out of jobs by the end of the day. It baffles me how they even thought they could get away with it, that's how similar these designs are.

Kinda anxious to see what Games Workshop's response will be, considering how protective they are of their IPs.

I see a lawsuit coming. What were they thinking?

I saw this on Reddit and immediately wondered if they had gotten permission to do this. I mean, there has been no official statement from either company, so as unlikely as it could be, this could also be crossover material for funsies, like an Easter egg of sorts.

But we're gamers, so we're instinctively negative.

I highly doubt it. GW is notoriously tight-fisted with their intellectual properties. If anything, the art for C&C would at least have had some disclaimer crediting GW if it was permitted.

I understand, but I'm just pointing out a certain aspect of gamers in general that fascinates me. We're very quick to complain and see the wrong and I'm not entirely sure what has conditioned us to be this way.

Regardless of the legality of it, gaming crossovers are cool.

Game cross-overs are cool, but this isn't one. I don't even get the mentality of it. I'd be much happier as an artist or a designer with using something awesome I came up with myself than plagiarizing something (admittedly cool) from another franchise.

Just to add, these models aren't even in the Beta of Tiberium Whateverthe****, so chances are that they won't use them.

Edit: It's in the OP, DOH!

You're doing the human race a disservice by confining this characteristic to gamers. :P

Crossovers are cool, yes, but in this case it wouldn't make sense. The tanks aren't even similarly named. There are a few bigger pics floating around where the names are clearly visible. Also, this C&C is a browser-based, F2P one. I highly doubt EA would spend so much money on acquiring rights to something like this just for a casual browser MMO. Possible, but highly unlikely.

Maybe it's a lack of creativity. To develop a new model needs allot of creativity and imagination.
So why spend hours to create something new, when you can simply copy ideas.

    Conspiracy theory
EA came up with the idea first and left them for a rainy day and GW had a mole inside that made copies and they used it first. EA not noticing it and used their dusty ideas for this game.

Well, EA is technically five years younger than the 40k franchise (1982 vs 1987), so you may have something there ;P

I laughed when I saw this - din't bother me, but it came across as a bit ballsy - I've already survived SC2 and it's questionable inclusions. No idea if GW will stir about this, but they are infamous about their strict control of their IP.

Just to clarify, the lower vehicle last saw use in 1994, as an Ork vehicle - loooong since fallen out of the franchise, possibly replaced with the Battlewagon

The upper pic definitely looks like an earlier version of the Baneblade

Regardless, both models as we see there are no longer in use.

Doesn't change the fact that they look like carbon-copies.

Well, I suppose my point is that unless the copyright on it has hit the 70-year mark (or whatever the number is) it doesn't matter that they're no longer in use.

I wasn't saying it didn't matter because they were no longer used - just specifying which models people were saying were stolen :P
