That would suck. In my understanding from what I have been reading. The client used for the closed beta is obselete, that is for sure. The client used for the Beta Weekend Events (it's not classed as open beta) will be updated each time, so requiring less download. This is exactly how they did it for Aion. If we find definitive answers on this though, that would be useful.


EDIT: - OK, I just checked with Guru.. this info is not yet known. When it is, I will update.

I asked if BT Games would host a copy locally once the client is available. This is the reply

we would love to. we hve received this info though.

Customers who have pre-purchased the game will receive an e-mail next week with instructions on how to download the client and participate in the Beta.

so we will have to get the client from a customer who has pre-purchased and downloaded the beta already.

When it becomes available, if you get the download. Please can you try to get a copy to your nearest BT Games. The Branch will then need to notify Michelle Holton at thier head office that they have it :)

Well, I got my client, got snacks, had a nap, & i'm ready to roll.

The folder size for the downloaded client is 12.7Gb. If anyone in the Gordon's Bay area needs the client. PM & we can sort you coming to get a copy :)

Just a quick heads up. It seems the character creation servers are up. I've already created my Norn Elementalist and watching the personal story intro.

Got my Human Engineer to lvl 3 before I crashed and could not log back in again. Played at max settings without any lag at all. OMG the combat feels so awesome.

Finally managed to log in after a lot of errors, create my Norn Engineer and watch his personal story intro, then I got a black screen. Music still played and a few interface objects were around, but it looked to have crashed.

Now I can't log in again :(

I don't know if it's just because I'm playing a half-decent MMORPG again for the first time in ages, or if it's because Guild Wars 2 is actually really good, but I found myself longing for this game when I stepped away for just a few hours. I haven't felt that way about a game for years.

Had that same problem. Had to close the game and then re-log in to get the game started after the story intro.

But yeah. Freaking loving the game.

They seem to have sorted some of the issues. Had alot less trouble playing yesterday. Had less lag on my side too.

I wouldn't say that. I had tons of lag last night, and there was a good two or three hours that I couldn't connect at all.

Like I said though, the connectivity issues aren't really a big deal. It's beta testing, I expect this.

I had a great time this weekend. Yes there were login problems as well as the fact that me and my party members were in different overflow servers all the time so we could not play together. Besides that I had a great time.

I tried out all the classes except the necromancer (The sounds the pets make just freak me out :P)
I was rather surprised that the class I thought I would like least I liked the most. The mesmer is just pure fun and once I got a great sword I was sold on the class. Lazer Firing Great Sword > lightsaber

Being able to dye your clothes at anytime is a big plus btw. As soon as you get a piece and it does not match exactly the way you want it to just dye it. This is also the first MMO I have played where the starting clothes are actually attractive.
