Thread: Suggest me a LED TV

Default Suggest me a LED TV

I need a LED TV, there's so much amazing one's out there, it's actually overwhelming to choose one from so many.

I was wondering if you guys/gals might help me choose a suitable option.

Basically what I'm looking for is a TV around 50 to 60 inches, not 3D, must manage to handle console games without you having to see pixels or lag.

There's a Technology Discussion subforum just for questions like this. ;)

    1. Why LED?
    2. Why 50"~60"?
    3. Why not 3D?
    4. What's your budget?

All except the no budget from number 4 really limits your choices. 3D is pretty much becoming the norm these days, with most LED TV's sporting that capability. Take note that 3D can be switched on and off with the push of a button, so it's not like it's stuck in 3D 24/7. Furthermore, gaming in 3D is pretty bad-friggin-ass, so reconsider your statement! :P

Then, considering price as well, I can actually recommend this. MY company is the main contractor for a larger company installing TV's all around, and 99% of the installed stuff is Hisense TV's. I took a standard 42" LCD the other day at work, unboxed it, stuck my PS3 into it and watched Braveheart on Blu Ray on it. It looked frigging amazing, considering I was sitting 2m from the TV and it wasn't even an LED display. There's nothing wrong with Hisense if you don't have R25,000 or something to spend on a TV, and they incidentally sport one of the best warranties currently on the market, 3 years. Samsung, LG, Sony, etc. all tend to stick to 1 or 2 years, which is bothering me.

Oh, another thing, the TV I watched Braveheart on even got wet in a sick rain storm, which is why I unboxed it to see if it was still working. Nothing.wrong.with.it. So, they're tough as well... :P

Okay, spoke to my dad (he's buying the TV) and he said 3D is fine after I convinced him. He's looking at Samsung or Sony. The reason we want a 50''-60'' TV is because the room we want to put it in is quite big. The budget is around R30 000 - R50 000

^ Is...is this a spambot post? I can't tell... [Yup, it was -Admin]

OT: Sir-Ominous, I highly recommend Samsung. I can't remember our exact make but it's amazing and samsung overall are very reliable. I still debate 3D personally, but if you can get it anyway, then might as well.

Brand-wise, look at Hisense or Sinotec. Both offer far longer warranties than competing manufacturers. Since a TV as large as you're looking at tends to be an investment, its a good idea to get a longer warranty should anything go wrong. I'd go and have a gander at these deals if I was you:

Sinotec 55" (140cm) Full HD LED TV @ R12,000 (cheapest option, very good panel quality and the warranty is five years long)
    HISENSE - 55inch FULL HIGH DEFINITION 3D SMART LED @ R16,000

If you're looking for size and visual impact as well, nothing beats a good projector setup. Also, R30,000 for a TV is a humongous waste of money. You'll never get anything better beyond the kind of panels you see in TVs retailing for just under R20,000. If you've got that kind of cash available, this is more in your alley:

Samsung 59 Inch Plasma 3D Full HD TV @ R17,883

Don't get me wrong, R50k would buy you a much, much bigger TV set (think bigger than 80") but that's bordering on insanity at that point, especially if it only ships with a year's warranty.

    A suggestion.
A few of my friends bought Tv's from HI-Sense.
They are quite happy with the build quality and price.
    Worth having a look.

I have exactly that one and it's a beast. Great for gaming, awesome for BD and because it's Plasma perfect for sport. And it's huge!

At that budget I can do you a 64" Samsung full hd. Just need to check model number and type, but pretty sure it's LED. Also 3D capable. The price was 47k if not mistaken, I'll check in the morning for you.

At 64 inches the PPI ratio must be horrible to look at. For any TV larger than 50" the industry really needs to move to digital cinema-4k resolutions otherwise it looks horrible.
