GOG Releases Quest for Glory Compilation Pack

In this very special Christmas episode, Good Old Games releases Quest for Glory 1 through 5 in a glorious DRM-free compilation pack, thus cementing their position as the best digital games distribution service for all known time scales.

If you played any sort of point-and-click adventure titles, you owe it to yourself to pick this up.

Also, enjoy the VGA remake of the second game, since I don't think they packaged it in there but is definitely worth checking out.

QFG is right up there with my favourite series of all time (excluding Dragon Fire because ewww), so I'll heartily recommend that anyone who has any interest in adventure games, folklore and RPGs pick this up if you don't own it already (and shame on you if you don't!).

@Geo can I ask what was wrong with 5?

I own all the Quest for Glory games from years back. 1 (Remastered) and 5 (Dragon Fire) are the only ones I finished :P

1, I really liked 1, I remember seeing the Father from Dinosaurs in the forest and thinking that was the coolest thing ever :P

2, I never got into, maybe it was too outdated, but setting didn't grab my attention

3 I liked but I could never figure out what to do during your training, with the tribal people, to move on.

4 Had some errors that Sierra were "aware of" but it didn't help that I had to use their provided save games to skip large parts of the game to play past the errors, so I stopped playing :/

5 I enjoyed, I never understood the time limit and couldn't believe it on my second playthrough when I could do most of my training before even accepting the King trials. I also remember the one murdered guy is shown on the box-art fighting the Hydra with you and the one woman and spent ages trying to figure out how I could "save" him. Never did, he always got murdered.

To start, the visuals are awful. It came around at the time when a lot of 2D series were making the transition into 3D which, for many games (especially those with lower budgets) meant terrible animations and blocky characters, and as a result, a less convincing world.

Then, and this is more down to personal taste (but I know I'm not alone), the voice acting was terrible.

The writing just felt... off. It wasn't as sharp-witted as those of previous games and didn't capture my attention as much.

I just feel really uncomfortable when playing it. Maybe it's the visuals that keep me from becoming as engrossed in V as I was with the rest of the games, but it's so off-putting, so, I dunno, gross. There's no magic to it.

II is definitely my favourite of the series, probably because it's the most out-there in terms of setting. It really felt like a new, magical place to explore.

I and III come close to II. IV is definitely good, and it's the funniest of the lot, but I just didn't like the main story all that much.

3 I liked but I could never figure out what to do during your training, with the tribal people, to move on.

III is notoriously buggy, especially the Simbani fighter quests. It's basically impossible to finish unless you get lucky.

I've officially found my December Marathon games. Shot. I really hope I can manage to finally finish QFG4 now.

Yeah, this is a great series. I still own the original collector's edition.

QFG2 is one of my favourite games ever.
