Herpaderpa. Even if the whole "online petitions never work" proverb didn't hold 99% of the time, what exactly will this do to help? What can change by doing this? The accusations on the petition page doesn't help. Neither do the statistics agree with claims of genocide.
I'm with Garson007. This is as effective as a chain e-mail. There is absolutely nothing this petition will do to stop farm murders or any murders for that matter. And while the idea is good, this is the purest form of slacktivism.
Actually it does work.
Once a large amount of signatures have been reached the link can be sent to government and there by noted as a serious issue.
Petitions hardly do anything except show how much support an issue has. Does anyone remember the Ban the Blue-Light Brigade one? Yeah, nothing's come of that either. Just farting against thunder, really.
That's how the cookie crumbles with a government that is ruled by one party that always has majority vote, has a single incumbent telecoms operator and doesn't give a rats ass how the poor must feel.
Yeah, sorry man, petitions don't do squat. The gov doesn't care at all.
You want change? Get a well-respected academic to do a solid study on this and get it peer reviewed and accepted, or a famous investigative journalist to do a proper documentary, then submit to the UN and make a big stink of it. If they classify it as genocide, then perhaps something can be done.
But the fact is that no-one will ever accuse the gov of allowing genocide, and no-one will accept genocide as occurring in SA against white people because we're still surrounded by the stigma of apartheid. As far as the rest of the world is concerned, it's just a bunch of old, racist white boere making noise about how the darkies are enjoying their freedom. And even if it's not that simple, no-one wants to touch this issue with a ten-foot pole.
Also, the reasons behind farm attacks are a lot more complex than simply black vs white or farmers vs non-farmers etc. Plenty of race politics and economic underdevelopment to be sure, but also the bubbling cauldron of revenge for past wrongs and frustration and desperation from poverty and an ineffective government delivery. A petition isn't going to change any of that.
You want change? Alleviate some poverty and force government to be more effective. Easier said than done obviously... I've been saying for a while, I think farmers in SA should start working on a Sharecropping system. At least then some poverty would be alleviated in certain areas and at the very least you'd get some extra hands and voices to defend your farm.

You'd be surprised actually. In stats for the number of crimes that my mom received for her psych course, its shown that a number of the attacks are actually listed as theft-motivated with some turning to racially-motivated later on, or were misrepresented as racial attacks by the perpetrators on purpose. Most of the time its a power play, others are because there were younger kids involved in the attacks and they panic and fire the killing shot. The torture is another thing altogether though.
Still, petitions don't work. Actions speak louder than words and scribbles.
