If I had the cash I would really consider getting it, it seems to be a heap of fun, but a massive time sink. I think I'm a bit too impatient though, crouch-walking for miles on end isn't really my thing...

You only have to crouch walk if you're close to zeds and don't want to make a lot of noise. I run around all the time.

As for banditry, be careful. Bandits are now more dangerous than ever. The humanity meter is gone, so you can now no longer see who is a bandit and who isn't. We had our first encounter with a bandit earlier, and he attacked a group of 5 people, so watch out. Veteran mode also means you don't know who you're aiming at, so if you see the bandit now, you'll have no idea if he's amongst the group of survivors you come across later.

Also, the Winchester is no longer silent. It's a bit less noisy than the cz550, but not by much. Shoot once, and those zeds are going to pop out everywhere.

Oh, I've also set the system clock back a bit, so those of you who only get home at night will now have a bit more daylight to play around in.

Shiiit. Made it all the way to the northern airbase, which is probably a 10-15km trek inland. Then a zombie attacked me, and the only thing I had to attack him with was my cz550, which attracted everyone from miles around. When there were two zombies left, I had one bullet left. :(

Edit: Anyone know when downloading off amazon, if you get to keep the install files, or if it deletes it once it is done?
Also, does the downloader resume if closed?

Me, KJVE, Amphi and another person whose name I forgot travelled inland. Probably took us close to two hours to get there. We headed up to the most random, remote fort in the middle of nowhere. And then some guy in there shot us.

It's pretty suspicious that he just happened to be there at the exact time we were there, because we never told anyone of our intentions in the world chat, or any in-game chat for that matter.

Was just very odd.

Its amazing how some people blatantly disregard the base rules of the game... the point of DayZ is survival... how long you can survive with what you find by chance... people who have survived 7+ days without using cheats, i take my hat off to you... but when you get one little ba$###d who exploits because he enjoys making players feel bad and so that he doesnt have to start again when someone kicks his A$$? That just grates me :/

Also, pretty decent haul last night after my first disastrous attempt. Have a knife, crossbow, matches, frag grenade, smoke grenade and temperature is running at an all time high. Did a full circle on myself, so I'm basically back where I started though. I'll try and check where I am today on some map and go from there.

EDIT: Anyone else capturing screenshots or anything of their playthroughs? I'm just using FRAPS interval screenshot capture set to about 10 seconds. I've noticed absolutely zero impact on gameplay, but be aware that if you're using the trial version, it saves them as BMP and you have convert them.

You guys should let me know if the time should be adjusted. It only started getting dark sometime after 10PM last night.

I wonder if maybe should set it forward by 1 hour? That way those who work can still enjoy a fair amount of daylight but can still get a taste of dark without staying up tooooo late. I'm so happy the server was set back a few hours - playing only in the dark would become severely depressing after a while!

That bandit guy that took us all out at the fort.... man, that was annoying - and so unexpected. I suppose another reminder to be super alert at all times and take more care going into new places. He must of have set up camp there for a while, he had a very good position which we had no chance of getting the jump on him. He mowed us down one time!
