I'm sure we'll see physical copies of games for many years yet, but if I had fast uncapped ADSL, I would have quit buying physical copies long ago. I embrace the digital download future wholeheartedly, provided Telkom can get it's act together. No bulky and primitive optical drive, no game boxes littering up the place gathering dust. Lovely.

As for the future of consoles (and for that matter gaming PCs) I think the endgame will come when something like live streaming of games from an ordinary, everyday device becomes a workable reality. The world won't need dedicated games machines anymore.

I think digital is beautiful. Really, I do. But hell, I'll be flabbergasted if you tell me that a list of words on Steam is prettier than seeing your hard-copy game collection stacked all together on the display cabinet, beautifully with all the extras and add-on hardware. It's something that gets my nerd on every time I step into my room. DAMN!!!
