Eh, that might be because you're firing a weapon in a Mars base. Gravity ain't exactly what it is on Earth. :P

I see they're attaching the flashlight to your shoulder now. Not quite sure what to make of that. The way the flashlight was previously handled added a lot to the atmosphere. Stumbling into a room, flashlight in hand, seeing an enemy, pulling out your gun just to be forced to use muzzle flash to see where the enemy is.

I always kept the shotgun as my primary weapon, ready to switch from my flashlight when needed. Ended up making what little I played of the game creepy as hell. That's next on my "old games to finish" list.

I you guys are looking to replay Doom 3. I would advise looking at this guide [Guide] How to mod doom 3 for insane graphics

I'm actually keen to try this myself, seems to improve a few things, also a few reworked textures and pretty lighting

Seeing those mods reminded me of tweaking DOOM3 so I could play it on my Voodoo5 - Good times.
I don't see the point in buying this just for 7 extra levels. I'd rather just install it again and make it look pretty, it is afterall a game I had a lot of fun with.

Hands on with Doom 3: BFG, and the terrible secret behind the original game’s flashlight

The more I read about this, the better it sounds. FPS play easier (for me anyway) on the PC but Doom3 is a slower game so I think it will suite the console controls perfectly. And the 3D sounds kinda nice.

I would advise looking at this guide
I was able to download the SIKKMOD, and after some searching on the web I found a place to download the wulfens texture pack. I cannot find the monoxeads hd pack mentioned in that guide.

I really prefered the switching between weapon and flashlight. I never used the duct tape patch, the mechanic of switching worked well in the game, but it seems the masses demands a light that is always on. I really don't want an Imp jumping at me in 3D.

I still have my Doom 3, Steel box edition for the OLD Xbox. Only trouble is the Xbox itself got fried on a power surge, & I can't seem to get my hands on a 2nd hand one here.

Well according to this wikipedia site located here, Doom 3 for the original Xbox could work with a 50hz PAL screen and in widescreen. I don't know if it will work with a HDMI output if you have.

To get some awesome visuals out of your Doom 3 try these:

    Sikkmod v1.2 73mb
    Wulfen Texture Pack 476mb

These make the game look amaaaazing! Here's a vid to show:

@maxdamage - Thank you for the HRTextures link, downloading now.

I installed Doom3 again over the weekend and I'm really looking forward in adding these mods. I installed sikkmod and wulfen texture pack so far. There was a problem with the launching of the game, but I found that I had to download and install Doom3 patch 1.3
I install Doom3 from CD and not from Steam, I bought it before I had a steam account. So my game does not update automatically.

I'm excited to see it run on 1920x1080. I'm guessing the menu looks different because of the sikkmod.

Actually, no. That is another mod entirely. You'll have to create a autoexec.cfg file in your Doom3/base folder to change your screen resolution or try to find out what that mod is. The mods you have now only make the game look next-gen and also works for RoE.

I'm still not sure why they would re-release this with no that much improvement. Or maybe I'm just cynical.

Bethesda just wants to make a quick buck off the ip they bought. We'll probably see a Quake 4 reboot soon as well.

I'm still getting it regardless. Even if it's just for the seven extra levels. I had a great old time playing Doom 3, and while it didn't touch the heights of the first two games, it was (and still is) a very solid shooter, imo. One of the very few games I've played that didn't require patching. It was rock solid from the start from a stability point of view.

In any event it will be a nice appetiser until Doom 4 is announced.

Yeah so many ****ing jaded gamers in these parts. You know guys sometimes it's alright to enjoy something without looking for as many negatives as possible.

Ha, you're probably right. I'm sorry. The 3D does sounds really awesome, so I'll prolly rent it for 360 some time. But I can't wait for Doom 4 and Quake 4! Especially after those screenshots we saw last year.

I was only saying what's likely happening. How is that jaded or negative? Bethesda bought out id, now they're re-releasing Doom 3. Doesn't take a genius to put it together.

Not planning on getting this anyway. I thought Doom 3 was way too long as it was.

I'm quite surprised at how well Doom 3 holds up still, graphically. With the Sikkmod (Only mod I've tried) it still looks pretty good, except for the character models which are quite primitive looking.

I think playing this in widescreen and 1080P is gonna be sweet. I just wish I could afford the version that ships with the Oculus Rift. Now THAT would be something.

So I see it released last night. My opinion? Doesn't look worth the price tag. Would be more worth buying if it goes for $15. This is probably going to get some people spitting and fuming, but it seems they didn't even bother updating the graphics at all. Even just a few touch-ups would have been nice, but this looks identical to the game we all played and enjoyed in 2003.

I didn't really follow the development of this, but I thought they'd at least do some minor touch-ups to bring it up to modern standards. Might be worth it for people who have never played the original Doom 3, but for those who have, only worth buying if you value the few extra levels and Doom 1 and 2 at about $20.

Also, "and a new checkpoint save system allowing for smoother progression through the game." Wtf? If you count having to play through large areas again because you died just before the next checkpoint as 'smoother', then yeah.
