Thread: Microsoft Surface, the tablet not the OS!

Default Microsoft Surface, the tablet not the OS!

    http://www.microsoft.com/surface/en/us/default.aspx

I would love to hear some opinions on this?
I think it is beautiful, and by far the most useful tablet I have seen to date. The Pro version with i5 Ivy Bridge really impressed me. I just wonder if it will be powerful enough for say COD 4, and if there may be future gaming versions with dedicated graphics.
I just love the idea that it runs WINDOWS. Not Windows Mobile, but Windows (I know 8 has metro features) that supports all of your existing mice and attachments.

Wesley if you could post some more informed knowledge I would be very grateful, the only things I know about Surface is what I saw in the keynote, so i would really appreciate some input from you :)

    Also i love this>>>

I'm posting my thoughts on Monday about this as well, but I'm firstly very surprised. I never figured that Microsoft would enter into the tablet market itself. Sure, there's the Surface Table that's been around for a while, but this is something completely different.

I too was surprised at Microsoft building something physical. But I am intrigued by the fact that it runs Windows. If it has any graphics capabilities this will be the ultimate portable machine ever. lighter than a laptop. Intuitive touch controls when you use it as a tablet and full QWERTY when doing work. This seems much more usable than an iPad. Thank you Wesley for the response.
I look forward to reading your thoughts on Monday.

Come on Toxxyc, the software is still in beta. Everyone has technical errors, Steve was just generally better at hiding them. The amount of unresponsive iPod Touches, iPhones and iPads that I have dealt with is insane. I am excited as this is one the few tablets that I have seen that can be used as a tablet when just running metro apps like weather and cut the rope, but also be used as an actual pc for office work etc. The iPad is pretty much useless to me. But don't get me wrong I am not hating on Apple. I love apple the new macbooks have very impressive specs and OSX is always intuitive and fast. But alas Apple is too expensive for me. The Surface does have a beautiful design IMO

Hehe I'm sorry man... Still, thinking that this will give you iPad or EEE Pad Transformer Prime power for the price of a low-end device, you're making a mistake. This thing is going to be hellishly, hellishly expensive, specially with the non-mobile version of Windows 8.

Microsoft smooths over its Surface, brings a polished tablet

I'm not entirely sure how to take Microsoft's recent announcement that it is entering the hardware market with its own tablet. On the one hand, leading by example is a great idea and I'm sure many OEMs will try ti mimic or augment Microsoft's vision for tablets running Windows 8. It looks good and the first impressions are very promising. From a tablet standpoint, its a better fit for many users than the iPad, assuming that Surface actually uses proper x86 processors. I'll still comment on Windows 8 on ARM Runtime (WART) in a later article, but for Surface to really succeed it needs to run in a proper x86 environment. If its on WART, it will fail.

Microsoft Surface pricing revealed, new launch video

Part of the Windows 8 launch and its success hinges on the hardware that Microsoft will be selling alongside it. Surface is a slightly more complex product than what we're used to, featuring a 10.6" touch screen as a starting point, 32GB of storage space on a SSD and a starting price of $499.
