So it's been about a year since the viral marketing video was launched.

Some new details emerged that I somehow missed, which is weird seeing as this is one of my anticipated films for next year...

The plot details of Elysium, the much-anticipated film by South African director Neill Blomkamp, his first release since District 9, have been released.

The Elysium production details have been a closely guarded secret until now and Collider reported on the movie's plot revelation after they received an invitation to a preview screening of the movie, which outlined the plot.

Elysium is a futuristic action thriller, both written and directed by Blomkamp, and stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and District 9's breakout South African star Sharlto Copley.

The Elysium plot outline reads:

"In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy "Coordinators," people who can afford bio-genetical engineering, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, built by the Armadyne Corporation, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes, a hard government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky ex-con Max is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds."

The movie reunites Blomkamp with SA actor Sharlto Copley, who was last seen in the role of Murdock in 2010's The A-Team. Elysium also stars Diego Luna, Alice Braga, William Fichtner and Wagner Moura.

Elysium is set for release worldwide on 1 March 2013.

So it seems there will be similar social elements that was in District 9. Still looking forward to it so far.

Heh, I was expecting it to be a movie about terraforming. Bit disappointed, but it sounds interesting nonetheless.

Rocking a very nasty, unkempt beard, Kruger (Copley) has metallic pieces embedded in his face and body that serve as magnets and latches for him to quickly snap on and off different armor or apparatuses during battle. This is a man who will shoot down space ships illegally headed toward Elysium with an air-to-surface shoulder-fired rocket. He's all about the job, not necessarily the politics of the mission. Although wealthy enough to live on Elysium, Kruger instead lives in the slums of Earth so he can be called into service as needed.

After toying with different nationalities and accents, Copley and Blomkamp settled on making Kruger a South African, but using a South African accent unfamiliar to most American audiences. Copley said he patterned Kruger after members of South Africa's 32 Battalion, who served in the bush for extended periods of time during different campaigns.
