Endless Space - Thread of :3
So, I bought this out of pure impulse the moment I saw it on Gamersgate.
Simply put, amazing. I've only played for about an hour so far, but it seems to be just the revival the spacefaring 4X genre needed. Fluid interface, easy-to-learn-but-difficult-to-master gameplay, interesting story, awesome races. In a nutshell, at the very least 200 hours of my life, gone.
Also, the sound track is there to make mortals weep when they hear its beauty.
Anyone else playing this? I saw Wight and Repline already own it as well.

Very interested. Waiting on a demo, though. Pre-ordered various things that have yet to be priced, so I'm holding onto everything I can at the moment :p

This game looks pretty cool. I checked it at a friends house. The tech tree man, IT's ORGASMIC! I also like the idea to customise each ship to your own battle preferences.
Can't wait for this game to go on special one day as it will be an instant buy from me.

Purchased and downloading as we speak :D
I was a huge fan of Sins of a Solar Empire and I think this is going to be just as great.

Just be aware, this doesn't play like Sins. Whereas Sins was a RTS game with 4X elements, this is a Turn based strategy game, much like Civilization 5.
There is combat in the game, but it isn't real-time.

Indeed, also getting my ass handed to me. I think my problem is that I'm not doing my research in a manner that is balanced. So far, I've pushed pretty much all my time into advancing the exploration tree and very little into the others. I wanted to research colonization for all the planet types as fast as possible so I could have a booming economy, but I spawned next to two Cravers who rushed to research wormhole travel, and their armies have other plans in mind for me.
In my next match I'll try balancing out my research a bit, instead of trying to expand too quickly.

Digging this game! I bought it back when it was still in alpha. It's been really interesting to see how this game developed.
I'm currently busy on a huge map (8 players) and getting real rich with the United Empire. Unfortunately I expanded too late into Craver territory and encountered entire systems stripped of their resources.
Never again.

Damn, I keep losing. No matter what I do, it seems the AI always outclasses me in the military department. Been playing as the Hisho, or something like that, and I simply can't pump my military out fast enough before the enemy can invade a planet, and usually if they invade one, I stay at a disadvantage for the rest of the game.
Need to go rethink my strategy. :P
Haven't had this much fun with a 4X game in ages.

If you're wondering which weapon system to go for, I'd recommend the Laser/Deflection tree. Lasers dominate the medium phase and are surprisingly accurate in long range engagements as well. Plus the added benefit of researching Kinetic Deflection in tandem provides you with a stable military platform.
Just be sure to knock in a few anti-missiles and laser-absorption shields as well. The AI does have a certain fondness of stacking ludicrous amounts of missiles on ships.
You can also check out the types of weapon systems the enemy fleet is sporting. In the engagement window, you can mouse over each ship and spec his weapons and defences.

Yeah, I only just figured out I actually have to equip the stuff I research on my ships, so that explains a lot. :P
I'm never sure what to use in a ship build, though, so I almost always take the auto-upgrade option.

Crit time...
Auto-battle is purely mathematical? They don't actually battle? If the odds are even 1% against you and you auto-battle, you WILL lose, while I know if I manually did the battle I'm sure I could have utilized the cards and won that particular battle.
Also, Unlimited Ships, max out your dust income and you can build ships until kingdom come. Also, I feel they rushed the trading element a bit. You have absolutely no control over trading routes ect. and there is no menu to see what your planets are trading and with whom, unless you actually go into that planet. then it's listed at the top. Other than that, absolutely LOVING it. :D
Just saw this on Steam, Looks awesome. Lot's of space goodies this month.

Anyone still playing this? I reinstalled it yesterday and there has been a ton of changes to it. A lot of features have been improved.
This game is absolutely sucking away my time. Hours disappear into the void while I'm playing it.
