Thread: Snow on the N1

    Default Snow on the N1

I arrived in Beaufort West a while ago(I'm on my way up to Bloem), got a room and was told the road is closed due to heavy snowfall. It's looking like I won't be able to drive further tomorrow, problem being that I need to be somewhere Monday morning 10am.

I haven't found much news or info regarding this. Do you guys think the road will be drivable again tomorrow? Or do you think I should take a different route(help me out with some routes then)?

    Wow, that's quite something.

I was going to suggest as long as the road up to Three Sisters is clear then there should be a decent alternative route. But now...

They had to use a truck with a snow plough connected to it to clear up the road between Graaff-Reinet and Middelburg, that's how bad the snow is in the karoo area.

Screw snow on the N1, it just started snowing in Centurion and even in PTA Moot. It's insane. WTF are all these people on about global warming?

I'm in Sandton right now and it was snowing earlier. Not so bad that's blanketing the ground or anything, and it's stopped since then.

You know what hasn't stopped? The freezing cold, that's what! Holy crap my balls feel like raisins.

Same story over here. I just hope the cold holds out until the weekend, I want to take my GF to go see snow somewhere, and not this melting-upon-contact poofy ****. I want SNOW.

Even had a few hours of good snowfall here in Bloemfontein this morning : http://imgur.com/a/i6oPq

Okay there was just this big wave coming in, no longer melting upon contact. It's incredibly cold suddenly now (colder than it was 20 minutes ago) and the snow is laying white on the cars and shade nets. I really hope the sun stays away, it stays as cold as this and tomorrow we may see some decent snow! :D

EDIT: Also, it's funny to go stand on the roof of the building I'm working in and seeing EVERYONE gathering outside, phones held up high to take pics.

Man I wake up a bit late on my off day, and I find snow all over the place here in Randfontein. I haven't seen snow since I was a wee kid living in Ficksburg in the Free State about 20 years ago.

Probably has little to do with global warming. Probably more to do with the fact that we're experiencing a very strong La Nina for the first time in decades.

I can't believe on the day of my hernia operation this happens. I was lying in the hospital bed when my friend started sending me pics of the snow, I said "**** this I'm going to watch", crawled out of the bed with my IV and went for the smoking area, I have never stood in snow before, It hurt like a mofo but was so worth it!

The nurse tried to stop me, but every time it has snowed in my life I was not allowed to go and just saw it from the window (yes I was still young the last few times) by golly I wasn't going to let her stop me this damn time.

Truly awesome, even though it wasn't much! At 26 I'm no longer a snow-virgin. :D
