Default Single tower mobile internet problem

    I discovered recently.
That depending on the time of day and amount of people opposite my side of Pretoria.
My internet will either work or lag.

This is due to voice calls getting priority and my connection being dropped so that someone else can make a call.
It's only from +-6:00PM to +-11:00PM this is the exact time i need to be online to play some mp games with friends.
mtn, vodacom, hieta, cellc all use the same damn tower.
There is another tower nearby but it is so freaking old that it does not support higher than edge and gprs.

Telkom or landlines are not a option.. due to cable theft.

That's so weird, as the peak times are everything except the times you posted. That's when usage is decreasing dramatically, which should result in a better speed for the wireless.

Take note also that there are a lot of current upgrades all around PTA and Gauteng (and most of the country, actually) regarding fiber optic networks, so the problem can very well be temporary as the service providers are switching over to test the networks, do DIT and DCP tests, run OTDR tests on the finished routes, see if the FTC's are working nicely, etc. etc. Contact your service provider for more information, but don't expect detailed answers.

If you're on Vodacom or CellC I know two people who can help you out.

Register on the Mybroadband forums and contact either Cell_C, jannievanzyl or even VodacomData. Jannie is part of the Vodacom Telecoms team that works on their infrastructure, so he'll be the one who knows what's going on. If you can, PM him with as much info as you can as well as the tower name if possible, or its exact location. Most erected towers belong to either MTN or Vodacom, although Cell C have a good number of their own ones installed.
