note: contains reference to broken bones and surgery, but it should be toned down enough (I hope)
My weekend started like any other, plans to have fun and enjoy myself, etc. but things started going awry from Saturday night.
On Saturday night my band played live at a Christmas function, the practices and sound checks before it started being perfect. When I picked up my guitar to play during the event it turned out 2 of my strings were horribly out of tune (when I checked afterwards) and i was unhappy with my part of the performance.
Sunday, I took my motorbike to the veld behind my cousin's house for my first proper offroading. I was there for a tea for his birthday, and after eating we got out and back on the quad and motor bike,
I struck my second bad luck for the weekend when passibg through an area Id been through on the quad often, and found that motorbikes dont handle the ditches as well as the quad did, and hit a ditch at around 40~60 round about.
I remember kicking off, landing on my shoulder, and then rolling. My dad brought the bakkie into the veld to fetch me, and he somehow managed to find a ceramic bathroom sink to wreck his all terrain tires on. after what seemed to be the quickest tire change i had ever seen by my dad, I was helped to stand up and into the bakkie/
(thanks to my cousin for icecream and a pillow :P )
We rushed to Wilgeheuwel hospital straight to casualty. I went in. got a sling and some lekker sterk painkillers. Then the doctor in charge said I should get xrays so I can see how it looks, but upon seeing the xrays said that I should see an orthopedic surgeon the following morning (today).
This morning I was booked in and lay in a hospital till 6pm this evening (got a decent nap in), and went to theatre. I now have a plate holding my broken collar bone in place with 5 screws, and found out that the break wasnt actually clean but in a fair few pieces.
Moral of the story: be more patient even if the vehicle in front of you is slow :P
My biggest issues:
= have to miss a volleyball tournament next week
= have to type with one hand
= cant dress myself yet :P
Things Im happy with:
= I can still play on my 360
= I managed to get people worried of my mental health by cracking jokes while lying in the middle of a veld in pain :D
How sober were you while riding quads because this sounds like something my brother did while slightly intoxicated.
I was lanning at a friend of mine, I was in an accident about 4 days before(some idiot hit me from the side and tried to blame me, at that point I started to like the police, he almost got arrested for not having his licence). After the first night at the lan I went back home to go to the dentist.
After the session I went to my car, got in, and noticed a slight breeze. All my radio cables were hanging out, my passanger door was ****ed beyond recognition. I got angry as my dentist has a million cameras in the driveway and no one noticed it, I jerked back on my seat breaking it aswell. The worst of all... I took a "flattie"(a whole chicken) from home to braai that night and they stole that aswell.
I had to replace BOTH of my doors(corsa) and I'm still waiting to fix my seat, which has been jerry rigged to stand upright. After all these my car has cost me more to fix than it is worth. sigh.... :(
