Thread: PC problems

    Default PC problems

I've suddenly been having problems with my pc. It started last night when I was playing CoD4 online. My screen started flashing blue, green and red specs and froze. Upon restarting, many of the letters in the startup screen had changed to symbols resembling music notes and coloured arrows (I distinctly remember the 's' of windows being replaced with a rectangular smileyface). The screen acts overall awkward, sometimes showing blue lines. Most letters have their cases reversed. When it gets to the windows logo where it loads, the screen goes black and my pc restarts after about 10 seconds with the same result. my core tempareture also runs unnaturally high - more or less 60. I have a GeForce 6600 and a 2.67ghz Intel PentiumD proccesor. I recently (two days ago) installed the drivers on the NAG DVD, but they've worked perfectly up to now.....

Please help me as much as you can.

Edit: I can start in safe mode.

It sounds like your video card is on its way out, to be honest. Do a driver flush first, and re-install the drivers from scratch, just to rule out it being a software issue.

If that doesn't work, then there's a 92.345% chance that it is your video card going pop. If you've got access to a spare, I suggest trying it out.

Otherwise, go through the motions, testing/replacing each component in order. PSU -> Motherboard -> RAM -> HDD -> CPU.

Thanks Geo, I'll try that and report back ASAP.

EDIT: I'm a getting a whole new PC soon, but I'd like to keep this one running till then, and possibly sell this to ease the pain my wallet will suffer.

I seem to remember getting the same issue and it was my video card's memory going 'zaaap'.

Video card memory corrupted. Most likely a VRAM chip has failed. Time for new vid card.

Sounds like the card's the problem then. I contacted my pc specialist, should come and see what's wrong soon. Thanks for the help guys. Lock.

My 6600 did exactly the same thing after a while. I think you better just wait for your upgrade, rather than pay for calling out your pc specialist.

What card you going to get to replace it? The techy dude won't be able to do much even if you do pay him.

No, I'm getting a whole new pc. The techy dude knows alot, seriously. He's a guru. My CPU bummed out at 90 something and he took it for two days, came back and it worked better than before. Didn't know that was possible.

He probably slapped some thermal paste onto it. The real question is, why did he take two days to do it?
