http://www.yuansoft.com/Setup_AltoMP3Gold.exe
direct download link. Works like a charm.
Google gave me a load of crap. If you knew me you would know that I did check, but all the links looked dodge or expensive. Oh and I should have specified, it must be freeware, I don't have a credit card.
Went through a similar mission a while back, trying to find software to convert a random format that is hardly ever used.
I eventually found this: http://www.bonkenc.org/
Seems to do just about everything :D
Google is not always THAT helpful; it's not as if the first link google spits back at you solves all your problems indefinitely. Sometimes it's just easier to go onto to your local friendly forum and ask someone for help.
google search, doesn't look dodge to me
i went searching for an mp3 to m4a and ended up with Eufony haven't tested it yet but it looks good
EDIT: it does tons of other formats, and its free
Thanks for the help, I will try the programs when I get to a pc. I think I googled convert to mp3 free and got wierd sites and religious propaganda.
Protip: Use www.download.com. You can specify freeware when you do your searches.
If you're already using iTunes, then it's easiest to just get it to do all the conversions. It's already capable of converting between all the formats it supports.
Firstly, if you haven't already, you need to set it up to import music in mp3 format. To do that, navigate to edit > preferences, and you'll find a 'import using' combobox in the Importing subtab of the advanced tab. Set that to 'MP3 encoder'.
Once you've done that, you can simply right-click all the music in your library and choose 'convert selection to mp3'.
Okay thanks, got what I needed. Unless someone else has a use for this thread it can be locked. Ta for the help all.
For the record; iTunes sucks
Not gonna argue there. A few months ago I swore by Windows Media Player, but my heart lies firmly with Foobar now. While iTunes has improved significantly over time, I only keep it out of necessity.
